24.01.2022 GEELONG MADE FACEMASKS SUSTAINABLE, REUSABLE AND SAFE With the warmer weather on the way do you really want to continue wearing those disposable masks that are ...hot and sweaty and the next environmental scourge. We have sold thousands of our Geelong Made Fashion Masks with great customer feedback. From camo (everyone loves camo!) to plains, patterns, stripes and more. Sizing has been fine tuned now adding an XS (kids) to our S, M and L - theres a size to fit everyone. Open Wed, Thurs & Fri 10 am to 3pm Sat 10 am to midday. We thank the staff and volunteers at Jirrahlinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary for being our models. 23.01.2022 Jirrahlinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary, Barwon Heads in partnership with Kangaroo Gifts Australia, Melbourne (Sunshine) have embarked on an initiative to spread a bit of joy amongst the community in these uncertain times while at the same time, contributing to the welfare of our beloved fauna at Jirrahlinga. We are noticing the increasing number of teddy bears in windows of our homes as a sign of hope and positivity. So we asked an obvious question why not have a Koala i...n the Window? To this end, Jirrahlinga and Kangaroo Gifts will jointly promote the sale of Koala in the Window. There will be a bare minimum profit which will 100% go towards the welfare of the wildlife at Jirrahlinga. Kangaroo Gifts are happy to provide plush koalas at cost and also look after the logistics of sending the koalas to purchasers. To purchase a koala please visit the eBay page https://www.ebay.com.au//Plush-Koalas-on-the/293548477907 Alternatively if you would like to donate directly to Jirrahlinga of banking details are as follows Jirrahlinga wildlife sanctuary Bsb 633 000 Acc no 152 511 077

23.01.2022 The volunteers and the wildlife form incredible bonds through working together all the time. Mel recently took time away from the park and was greeted with great affection from Buddy the Corella upon her return.

21.01.2022 Queen of the jungle! Since we aren’t open to the public at the moment, we are using this time to do positive things and spend as much time as possible with our lovely animals. We are feeling very grateful at this time to still be able to take our dingo puppies for walks, hop around with our little joeys and enjoy some sun with our koalas. Katie here is going strong eating plenty, sleeping, enjoying some pats and cuddles, sleeping, sunning and oh did I mention sleeping? Cant wait to see you all again soon!

20.01.2022 Please be respectful of the new rules in place in Victoria. They are here to protect everyone. We know that masks are not super comfortable but please look after yourself and others. 20.01.2022 Happy FriYay. We are open and hopefully the weather stays fine. Daily encounters today are at 11am 1pm and 3pm however our 3pm encounter will not include reptiles today.

19.01.2022 Our junior rangers have had a lovely time today. As a reward for their hard work they enjoyed some one on one time with our wallabies and Spike. We appreciate all your hard work girls

19.01.2022 Who nose? Did you know that male adult wallabies, like Willy Winks here, are often referred to as bucks, boomers, or jacks. Adult females are known as a doe, flyer, or a Jill. Hi! Im Willy Winks and I am a swamp wallaby! It might also interest you that we are most often solitary animals, but when we are in groups (foraging for food) we are called a court, mob, or a troupe! Wishing you all a very happy Friday and start to the weekend

19.01.2022 Did you know Dingo have owl like tendencies: Dingoes are well-equipped for the Australian Outback, and have an impressive sense of vision. They can even swivel their heads about 180 degrees. Comparatively, owls can turn their heads 270 degrees; humans can only turn theirs 45 to 70 degrees. These gorgeous puppies are currently part of our free daily encounters at 11am 1pm and 3pm. We are open everyday from 10am until 5pm

19.01.2022 Reminder we are open everyday from 10am until 5pm, with some encounters throughout the day at 11am 1pm and 3pm where you can get up close and personal with some of our native animals, including the koala reptile and dingo. Prices can be found in the about button of our facebook page. As you know 2020 was not a great year and we cancelled alot of our fundraisers due to Covid. We have been doing alot of maintenance but would like to upgrade our koala hospital. If you would like... to support us so we can upgrade this facility please follow the below link. https://jirrahlinga-koala-and-wildlife-sanctuary.giveeasy.o

19.01.2022 IN SAFE HANDS DONATIONS NOW NEEDED & PLEASE SHARE Part of what we do on a day to day basis along with caring for our wildlife is animal rescue and care! This week we had a call to arms to assist with the care of some dingo coming from some very dismal conditions.... Weve just taken 20 dingos into our care. Weve rescued them from the NSW/VIC border at Albury/Wodonga. All appropriate permits have been obtained and weve worked really hard to get these dingo into safe hands. We needed to step in. To save the families. To keep them together. The mother has had puppies in transit. Its all happened in the last 24 hours but they are now safe. These pups now have a place to run and feel the breeze through their coats and learn what the grass under their feet feels like. They will now grow up in a place of safety, kindness and respect. In the coming weeks we will need to get a number of them vet care. Most will also need to be de-sexed and of course the food costs will mount. Tonight we asking if you would like to join our plight and assist with their care and donate toward their food and vet care or perhaps you might like to sponsor a pup. Our aim is to raise $20,000. If everyone donated just $5 each we would hit our target. It is just the cost of a cup of coffee but one that will help so immensely. Please donate now: https://fundraise.giveeasy.org/campaigns/in-safe-hands

19.01.2022 Come and celebrate Halloween with the natives. We will be celebrating Halloween all weekend... Bring the kids in costume and enjoy some trick or treating at Jirrahlinga. We are open Everyday from 10am til 5pm with daily encounters at 11am, 1pm and 3pm where you can get up close and personal with some of our natives including the Koala, Reptiles and Dingo puppies.... Happy Halloween

18.01.2022 HELP REQUESTED DONATIONS NEEDED PLEASE SHARE We need your help tonight. We need a Christmas miracle. As you know, 2020 has not gone as we would have liked. We’ve had to cancel a number of our major fundraising events due to the pandemic significantly impacting our finances. BBQs and all face to face events have also had to be cancelled leaving us with a significant shortfall as get close to the end of the year. We had really hoped to upgrade our koala and wildlife facilit...ies this year. It was our big project for the year but due to the above we had to put it on hold. However, as we enter the summer and bushfire season we really want to now get this done. Our koalas and wildlife are counting on us. The upgrade would allow us to expand our rescue staffing and equipment. It would be game changing for our area. We learnt a lot from the bushfires over previous years we want to make sure we are on hand when the calls for help come our way. We also want to be able to expand our fire and rescue personnel to enable them to be trained and equipped in the event they are needed We need to raise $20,000 tonight to fill the shortfall. If you could also do one more thing and write DONE after you donate that would be great. Just $5 from each and every one of you would get us over the line. It’s the cost of your next cup of coffee but one that will help us save more koalas. Please donate now: https://jirrahlinga-koala-and-wildlife-sanctuary.giveeasy.o

18.01.2022 A message from the director of Jirrahlinga Thank you little Guys good job. Our wildlifes future is in your hands. Today I am saddened to learn that the last of the rescued dingoes were put to sleep without any discussion. A tragedy for certain. We would have managed to take them had we known, but I am so pleased that we had rescued the entire family that had lived in one room.... The females have all had puppies now They are now at the dingo conservation centre, with room to run as a family. The adults have all been. DNA tested vaccinated and micro-chipped After being incarcerated in a small room for their life they are slowly adjusting to the large area with grass dirt and room to run The Puppies are doing well And will visit Jirrahlinga when we are allowed to reopen. Special thanks to all who supported this rescue, Including government departments Special thanks to one officer who cannot be named for his efforts to save them all You did your best

17.01.2022 Business as usual here, our animal encounters are still going ahead at 11am 1pm and 3pm but with a few restrictions applied to the handling on our natives. Extra hand sanitizer will be available at the gate.

17.01.2022 While you can't stop in to visit our koala please be assured that they are happy, healthy, feeding and resting well. We look forward to seeing you all again soon

17.01.2022 Mum and bub Recently, we have been greeted with the best little surprise here at Jirrahlinga. Two of our beautiful kangaroos are now big mumma bears! Here is the gorgeous Lucy who has been with us for so long that some of our senior keepers actually helped hand rear her from when she was just a tiny little Joey and now she has one of her own. Did you know that when kangaroos are born they are about the size of a jellybean! After birth they travel by themselves into their mothers pouch and attach themselves to a teat. When they are this young they cant suckler or even swallow yet so mum actually pumps her milk down her babys throat! Thats commitment! Hope you are all staying safe and well @ Jirrahlinga Koala and Wildlife Sanctuary

10.01.2022 What to look for when you are checking a kangaroo on the side of the road; 1) Both the males and females have cloaca's. A sheath that covers their reproductive ...organs. You cannot determine the sex of a kangaroo by looking at the cloaca. (Unless the male has his penis out which often happens upon death) 2) You must lift the leg/s to see the underbelly 3) In winter when their coats are lush it can be hard to spot a pouch and/or testicles. The pouch, if not obviously protruding with a baby may be flush against the stomach and hidden by fur. A male will have his testicles drawn up into his under-body for warmth 4) Run you hand along to locate the pouch and/or the testicles 5) A pouch must be checked regardless of size. A tiny little living baby the size of a jelly bean could be in there If you are not sure, PLEASE phone a wildlife group like Wildlife Victoria: (03) 8400 7300. If a baby is attached to a teat, please do not attempt to pull if off the teat before speaking to a wildlife carer or rescuer. Or, leave the baby for experienced rescuers to attend to These are common points our local rescuer Kerry deals with daily when speaking to beautiful people that stop and check. People see the cloaca and assume the ancient one is a male. This is not the case. Thank you to everyone that stops and checks. You offer love, dignity and a chance to save a life. Maybe even two! <3 For more information: https://kangaroorangers.com/

10.01.2022 Visitors may not be allowed into the park at the moment but please rest assured the animals are going about life as normal. The cheeky Cockatoo still sticks his head out to greet the keepers and the koalas are still sleeping. The snakes and reptiles are chillling out and enjoying the sun as it comes and goes. Hopefully we will be able to welcome you back to the park again soon. Stay safe and look after one another.

03.01.2022 Thank you to Barry James Gilson for his awesome poem..WE LOVE it at Jirrahlinga.. Here is why the koala has no tail... in poem form by myself . Why the koala ha...d no tail . Once when water was scarce, gula the koala, never knew about it , People thought he had a secret supply, But no one could ever find it, Buln-buln the lyrebird offered his assistance, He tracked gula down... way out in the distance , Gula has a tail in those days, It was very long ago, He used to hang like possums in the tree, Drinking water from the hollows, Buln-buln set fire to the tree, It made the tree burst and pop, Water shot out in all directions, And all the people got a drop, Gula jumped quick to save his life, And left his tail behind, It was coiled around the branch, Like a snake around a vine, This is why now they have no tail, Just claws to grab the bark, Buln-buln who carried the fire sticks, Has since had brown red tail feather marks. 03.01.2022 One of our handy volunteers was trying to do maintenance on the cockatoo cage yesterday. Mr cocky wasn't being very helpful but was grateful for the new toy "car keys" that he pick pocketed from the volunteer Rays pocket. This particular cockatoo can often be found talking to the public with his head sticking through small holes - how many of you can share a pic of him or may have been tricked into thinking his head was stuck.

02.01.2022 A message from the director of Jirrahlinga Thank you little Guys good job. Our wildlife’s future is in your hands.

01.01.2022 Who nose? Did you know that male adult wallabies, like Willy Winks here, are often referred to as ‘bucks’, ‘boomers’, or ‘jacks’. Adult females are known as a ‘doe’, ‘flyer’, or a ‘Jill’. Hi! I’m Willy Winks and I am a swamp wallaby! It might also interest you that we are most often solitary animals, but when we are in groups (foraging for food) we are called a ‘court’, ‘mob’, or a ‘troupe’! Wishing you all a very happy Friday and start to the weekend
