06.01.2022 Yesterday Shinzen Dojo was proud to host the state full contact karate titles. Congratulations to all fighters for having the courage to step on the matt and for your outstanding efforts. A big thank you to all officials, volunteers and attendees, without you we would have no event. Results as follows: State Heavyweight champion- Kyle Connlley (Shinzen Dojo)... State middleweight champion- Mason Bogunovich (Shinzen Dojo) State Lightweight champion- Mathew Paul (Arjukan Dojo) A special mention to Peter Sears for achieving the trophy for most spirited fighter. We also held a exhibition match for the very first Jissen Budo fight in WA. This event was received well and we are exited to announce that Jissen Budo will be a regular division offered at our future tournaments. Due to the current Covid restrictions, Hanshi is no longer able to enter Western Australia. We apologise to all those who were intending to attend this Sunday and thank you all for your support. We will be working hard with Hanshi to confirm another date for this awesome seminar. We will be taking this opportunity to hold a grading for all eligible students this sunday at 4pm, followed by dinner at "Little Lebanon" Osu

02.01.2022 When you’re the more experienced or bigger partner - start in bottom position with disadvantage: We all have a wide variety of training partners. Inevitably the...re will be big variations in size and skill level among them - so don’t treat them all the same. When you are more experienced or bigger - don’t start neutral as you would for someone your own size or skill level - start with some form of disadvantage so you get more out of the session and work skills you might not otherwise work and at the same time make it more competitive. When you do this you can be in a room full of small white belts and still get a good workout. It’s not about who you beat in the gym - it’s about beating who you were yesterday - and starting with disadvantage is the best way to do this when training with people you already know you can easily beat.
