24.01.2022 Hi families, we have come to the end of another excellent week at Jitterbugs. This week we have been getting to know our new routines and making the most of our time outside with the Florist/flower garden in the sandpit and the big parachutes to learn lots of new and exciting games. We had some rainy days this week but we had lots of fun inside at the dramatic cafe play and lots of Save the Koala arts and crafts. The children have been working hard to learn our Acknowledgement of country, new koala songs and the proper the wash our hands. We hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend. We can’t wait to see everyone again next week for more fun and learning at Jitterbugs

22.01.2022 Hi everyone. We have had another busy and exciting week at Jitterbugs. We have welcomed new friends to our jitterbugs family this week. The new children have settled in very well and we look forward to working with your children and getting to know them better. The beautiful spring weather has seen us enjoying our outdoor environment and utilising the beautiful nature around us as much as possible. We collected leaves and painted them to make a wonderful aboriginal wall hangi...ng. We also tended to our gardens and planted some new vegetable seedlings. Music and dance has also been a popular part of our outdoor program this week. The children have enjoyed having the big speaker outside and by using scarves and streamers they have loved being able to express themselves and move imaginatively and creatively. Please note also that we have been practicing our emergency evacuations, fire drills and lockdown procedures as per our regulations. The children may tell you there was a fire in the kitchen or a snake outside but please be assured this was just a drill this week. We look forward to seeing you all again next week, have a wonderful, safe and happy weekend from the Jitterbugs team. See more

21.01.2022 Hi to all our wonderful families. With the public holiday last Monday making it a shorter week, we certainly have packed a lot into the remainder of the week. We have welcomed more new families to Jitterbugs and we looked forward to getting to know you all much better. The beautiful spring weather has continued and we have made the most of our time outdoors this week. We have been continuing to create some new outdoor learning areas for the children. This week we have added a... quiet area with books and cushions etc where the children can come and relax or cool down if they need to. We have also added a lot more natural resources to our block area to inspire children to use their imagination and creativity. Our outdoor learning area that teaches us all about recycling and sustainability has been very popular this week. We have played games that teach us about recycling and talked about the importance about looking after our environment, recycling our waste, composting our food scraps, worm farms and the three R’s which are reduce, re-use and recycle. The children have been doing a great job learning our new daily acknowledgement of country. They may even be practicing at home and a copy of this is available if you would like one - just ask the staff please. The staff and children have been planting new vegetables this week. We also made some flower pots out of recycled drink bottles and milk cartons to hang on our fence. These look really great. We are always open and appreciative for any ideas or suggestions you may have for any recycling projects or sustainability ideas that you would like us to implement. A big reminder that our school photos are on next Tuesday 13th October please remember you must return your envelopes and payment by Tuesday morning. Thanks everyone, have a happy, safe and wonderful weekend from the Jitterbugs team :) See more

17.01.2022 Hi to all our wonderful families. We have had another busy and exciting week at Jitterbugs. We have been working on number recognition again this week by creating lots of counting caterpillars during craft time. Recognition of numbers supports the development of other number skills, such as counting and maths. At the focus learning table this week we have added sea creatures, shells, sea weed and drift wood. These type of play activities are important because they help to dev...elop their language and fine motor skills. Sensory play also encourages them to explore, investigate, problem solve, observe, experiment, and form conclusions. The kids have been practicing yoga and stretching songs like I’m a Little Teapot but using our legs instead of arms for the movements to enhance their flexibility, strength, coordination, and body awareness. Thanks everyone, have a happy, safe and wonderful weekend from the Jitterbugs team :)

16.01.2022 Hi Families, hope you all have had a wonderful week, they are going so fast. This week we have been doing some very exciting activities. The weather this week hasn’t been very sunny so we have spent a lot time having fun inside. We have loved singing and dancing this week to some of our old favourites Gummy Bear, Tooty Ta, and Open Shut Them to name a few. Babies and toddlers love, love, love repetition. Once children have learned something, they'll enjoy repetition because ...they can anticipate what comes next. Repeating words, actions and songs stimulates early childhood learning as it encourages language acquisition and benefits memory. In the few dry hours we’ve had this week the Bumble Bees have enjoyed going on nature walks around the centre and coming back to draw or paint or create something they saw on their adventure. Nature provides countless opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem-solving, and STEM education. Interacting with natural environments allows children to learn by doing and experiment with ideas. In nature, children think, question, and make hypotheses thereby developing inquisitive minds.During our group times this week we having been discussing Harmony Day, how we the same and how are we different and how important it is that we love each other because we are different. This has prompted lots inquisitive questions from the children about what differences they see in each other, He is a boy and I am girl I have shoes on and they don’t and I am big and she is small. The LadyBugs and Butterflies have been staying active during group times this week developing our gross motor and hand eye coordination by playing with balloons and using different body part to keep them afloat in the air. In the caterpillar room, the babies have been getting busy doing lots arts and crafts making four leaf clovers with their feet for St Patrick’s Day. Thank you everyone for a fantastic week. Have a relaxing weekend Stay safe, and see you all next week See more

16.01.2022 Hi to all our wonderful families. We have had another busy and exciting week at Jitterbugs. This week we rearranged the home corner and added dress up and baby dolls. Dress-up play allows dream to dream, hope, and use their imagination. It gives kids permission to pretend to be someone or something different and extraordinary that reflects their personality and current interests and promotes more independence by allowing kids to practice self-care skills. Outside this week we... have been finding lots of cicadas and cicada shells. The children have been very interested in learning all about how they live, grow and shed their shells. The kids also made their own binoculars to help find the cicadas and bird around the centre. We have been working on two feet jumps this week with skipping ropes and air pillows to make them pop. This is a motor developmental milestone that requires balance and strength with the awareness of body and motor planning. Using different techniques and environments allow the children to interact with different and unique textures. One of our quiet time activities the children have really enjoyed this week was the matching/memory card game. Playing memory games can improve other brain functions, such as attention, concentration, and focus. Memory games give space to critical thinking and that helps children nurture their attention to detail. Memory games can improve visual recognition as well. Thanks everyone, have a happy, safe and wonderful weekend from the Jitterbugs team :)

16.01.2022 Hello to all of our wonderful families. Our week this week has been very busy with lots of Easter activities. We have decorated our rooms with lots of amazing arts and crafts that the children have made. We have also read Easter stories and sang Easter songs. It’s been a really fun week at Jitterbugs and the children have been very excited about the Easter bunnies visit. Today we did a big Easter egg hunt to collect our eggs to put into the baskets and bags that we made to ta...ke home. We also played egg and spoon races which were very fun to watch. The younger children have been learning about colours and numbers this week. This has been introduced to them through some wonderful music and movement activities. The older children have been learning letter sounds and recognition. They have also been engaging in a lot of fine motor activities such as scrunching tissue paper into small balls, manipulating clay and using tongs to pick up small objects. All of these activities are used to strengthen their fingers, wrists and hands to help them to develop the correct grip when they use pencils, texta’s etc for when they are drawing and writing. As always, our amazing outdoor environment and the lovely week of sunshine we have had, has allowed the children to engage in lots of outdoor play again this week. We have been using the hoops, scarves and beanbags outside to practice our large body movements. The older children have been involved in a lot of large group activities where they have been learning vital skills such as cooperation, turn taking, sharing, problem solving and wonderful communication skills. One of our large group activities this week was researching bricklaying and concreting on the iPad. We then gathered all of our large wooden blocks, plastic trowels and concrete(shaving cream) to build a huge brick wall. The children worked so well together and had so much fun. Thank you for a wonderful week everyone. Enjoy your Easter weekend together and stay safe. We look forward to seeing you all again next week for another big week of learning and fun. Happy Easter from the Jitterbugs team. See more

15.01.2022 Hi Families, hope you have all had a wonderful week, they really are flying. This week We have been talking lots about the weather and all the floods that have happened around us over the past week. We have discussed how lucky we are that the floods didn’t affect our house or jitterbugs. The very welcome return of the sunshine the past few days has enabled us to get back outside to continue our play based learning in our beautiful natural environment. This beautiful sunshine h...as given us lots of opportunities to practice our gross motor skills. We’ve been using our hoops to practice lots of large body movements such as throwing, catching, rolling, jumping etc. We have also been preparing for Easter by decorating the centre with lots of Easter crafts. The ladybugs and Butterflies have made collage Easter eggs and lots of paintings this week using Easter eggs as well. The bumblebees have also been hard at work using their fine motor muscles to scrunch tissue paper for their recycled cardboard Easter eggs. They have also made bunny rabbits out of old newspaper and decorated Easter baskets made from recycled milk bottles. The older children are very aware of good sustainability and recycling as we talk about this lots at Jitterbugs. Thank you everyone for a fantastic week. Have a relaxing weekend Stay safe, and see you all next week See more

10.01.2022 Hi to all our wonderful families. We have another busy and exciting week at Jitterbugs. We have welcomed more new families and welcomed the return of some old friends. This week we have gotten to experience lots of different weather and this has meant we have made the most of our inside and undercover environments during the rainy days. All the rain has really helped our flowers, vegetables and herbs to grow and sprout new growth. We have been using our emotions books for sto...ry time which has led to lots of discussions and thoughts about the different ways we feel and why we might feel this way. This has also led to discussions about treating our friends with kindness and respect. The Jitterbugs cafe and grocery store has been very busy with customers, we have added play money and price tags to help the children understand the concept of money. This is an excellent opportunity for the children to learn valuable mathematics and numeracy skills. Outside the children have helped to reimagine how the play equipment and obstacle course should be arranged. Changing the setup of the obstacle courses creates new challenges, sparks interest and imaginative play experiences while promoting physical and gross motor development. Thanks everyone, have a happy, safe and wonderful weekend from the Jitterbugs team :)

08.01.2022 Good afternoon to all of our Beautiful Families here at Jitterbugs, we’d like to thank you all for a great week of learning and fun. We have been very busy this trying lots of new activities. One of our favourites was Musical Chairs. This game helps teach kids to resolve arguments peacefully, deal with disappointment and practice patience. We also really enjoyed learning new JustDances and making Who I love craft. This week we have read some amazing books, What’s in the Wit...ches Kitchen, Where the Wild Things Are and Alexander’s Outing were some our favourites. Reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world. It helps them develop language and listening skills and prepares them to understand the written word. Outside this week we have been practicing our ball skills with the Velcro grip balls, ball play helps children develop grasping skills, eye-hand coordination, tracking, finger muscles, and the ability to move objects from one hand to another. The Butterflies and bumblebees have been been practice their body awareness skills by singing songs such as Point your finger, a sailor went to sea and head shoulders knees and toes. They have also been working on letter recognition with the magnetic alphabet and white boards to write their names. Thank you all and hope you have a lovely weekend with your friends, families and kiddies! See more
