23.01.2022 On Saturday, Jack and Jess visited one of our valuable suppliers @ Hawkes Farm Gate. It was a great afternoon! Richard and his team do an amazing job supplying freshly picked produce, direct to the public. It was wonderful to see he is also supporting other local growers and small businesses in his area, from free range eggs to olive oil soap! Richard Hawkes comes from a big family history of growers, so it’s no surprise he produces such high quality stock. With potato’s being his primary product line, you’d be crazy to miss an opportunity to try Hawkes Hot Chips, made fresh from premium select stock picked only metres away. There’s fun activities for the kids too, from strawberry picking to farm tours. It’s a great way to get the next generation interested in in farming and wholesale veg!

08.01.2022 Once upon a time, in a land far far away Dutch carrots were... purple? Well not so far away but it is true! This tale dates back to the 1500s when William the Orange led the Dutch to victory against the Spanish, winning their independence. ... At this time, the Dutch were primarily known to be carrot farmers. When a new strain of carrot was developed in the 17th century containing higher amounts of beta-carotene (the first orange carrot) the Dutch paid tribute to William and started growing the carrots we know today.
