23.01.2022 In 2017, JJR assisted Dynamic Works with a Tilt Panel Warehouse modification, extending the front entrance to the warehouse, as well designing the substation for the building. JJR undertook foundation and framing design, design of secondary members, concrete slab reinforcement design and electrical design of the substation to keep power flowing through the building. All designs were in accordance with the relevant sections of the Building Code of Australia, so Dynamic Works ...can relax knowing they are safe on stable footing with JJR. #JJR #DynamicWorks #EngineeringDesign #ConcreteDesign #FoundationDesign #FramingDesign

23.01.2022 During National Road Safety Week, JJR wants to shine some high-beams on an often-overlooked factor in road death prevention; road design. In America in the 1970’s, there was a review of road and traffic safety standards, which lead to a recommendation that wide, straight streets are safer than narrower streets, resulting in thousands of new, wider streets being built across the country. However, instead of making streets safer, these changes increased road deaths. But why ar...e wider streets with more room and fewer turns more dangerous? In 2015, Researcher Dewan Karim found that answer is the old chestnut of human error. The safer a street looks, the less alert a driver becomes. People will drive faster, pay less attention to the road and make more mistakes on comfortable wide roads than dangerous feeling narrower roads. This is a perfect example of why road design can be so complicated. It is not only an exercise in engineering, but also in predicting human behaviour. So, as we continue to improve our collective knowledge in road safety, we urge all Australians to remember to stay alert, whether you are a driver, passenger or pedestrian. #RoadSafetyWeek #Roads #Safety #RoadsAustralia #DriveToSurvive #NationalRoadSafetyWeek

22.01.2022 As per the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations, certified aerodromes across Australia, such as Wagga Wagga Airport, must have an Aerodrome Technical Inspection once every 12 months. As CASA certified inspectors and aviation industry experts, JJR recently conducted an Aerodrome Technical Inspection for Wagga Wagga Airport, so they can be sure that the 200,000+ passengers travelling through the airport annually will take off the runway with ease. #JJR #ATI #AerodromeTechnicalInspection #CASA #CASR #WaggaWagga #Airport #Safety #Aviation #AviationSafety

13.01.2022 Road corridors in urban areas are increasingly constrained. Tidal flow systems (or ‘reversible’ lanes) are a form of lane management systems that allows traffic to travel in alternate directions within a lane (depending on the time of day or traffic conditions). Essentially, traffic flow during peak periods is improved by making an extra lane available for vehicles travelling along the direction of peak traffic flow. https://jjryan.com.au//running-road-corridor-consider-ti...d/ #JJR #TidalFlow #RoadDesign #TrafficManagement #Traffic #Engineering #PeakTrafficFlow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HllUx-FVNtw&feature=emb_logo

11.01.2022 Brian joined JJR as our Civil Team Leader in 2019, with significant experience designing and building civil infrastructure. Brian is RPEQ certified, and has designed a number of roads, drains, sewers, rails lines and large scale storm water solutions. #JJRyan #JJRyanConsultinting #Engineer #CivilEngineering #EmployeeSpotlight Q: What first attracted you to Civil Engineering?... A: When I was a kid, I was always curious about how roads, buildings, dams and pretty much all large man made structure s are built. When I grew up and was ready to go to university and begin my professional journey, that curiosity is what guided me to the Civil Engineering field where I could finally find the answers to the questions which were in my mind since I was a kid. However, studying and working in the Civil Engineering field generates many more questions, which I love because it makes me challenge myself to keep searching for answers. Q: What do you love about working at JJ Ryan Consulting A: One of the things I really love in JJR is the friendly and open working environment where you can discuss anything with everyone. (Sometimes that leads to technical arguments which are challenging and lovely). The other thing is the flexibility of working in a company where you can work almost anywhere in the world. All you need is a laptop and an internet connection! Q: What advice would you give yourself as a fresh Engineering graduate? Don't give up academic learning and don’t detach from your university. It's hard to get back when you have been away for long time. Q: What are you watching, reading or playing right now? To be exact, I'm listening to Dubsways Episode 101 from YouTube music on my phone. It’s a music collection mix which helps me to focus. Q: Tell us a surprising fact about yourself 5 years ago, I was very new to speaking and understanding English. I really surprised myself by being so adaptive to the new environment I’m currently living in!

10.01.2022 As experts in the field, JJ Ryan Consulting were asked to develop detailed design documentation for a sports pavilion and two new car parks for Eltham High School in Melbourne, Victoria. Victorian School Building Authority delivered the facility with new clubrooms, unisex change facilities, a canteen, storage, undercover area, and improved car parking for the sports complex. The project also involved installing lighting at the sports oval and increased the number of multi-sp...ort courts to include six tennis courts and four netball courts. Two existing outdoor netball/basketball courts were resurfaced. No doubt we will see some future Australian athletes trained at this grassroots facility! #JJRyan #Engineering #EngineeringDesign #Structures #StructuralEngineering #SportPavilion #SportFacilities #CivilEngineering

06.01.2022 While humanity has been harnessing the power of ocean waves for energy, transportation and leisure for centuries, modelling waves when designing ocean structures is still remarkably difficult, despite advances in computing and scientific knowledge. Environmental Impact Assessments, for example, which employ high-resolution spatial and temporal hydrodynamic models, can still only predict waves to a certain degree of accuracy, even with the help of an experienced engineer. I t...hink we will stick to fetch, windspeed and sea levels for now... If only we could accurately predict significant waves, wouldn't that be... swell? #JJR #Hydrodynamics #Waves #Prediction #Engineering #Modelling #WavePredictions #EngineeringFact
