25.01.2022 Some pics from today’s Senbon Geiko (1,000 training) at the Jka Greater Melbourne - North Melbourne dojo. Huge thank you to Nishimura Shihan and Noriko Ohashi for organising the event! Great job to everyone that took part! Awesome effort Let’s do this again next month!... Have a great weekend!
25.01.2022 Day 3 "executive summary"....we started the day with some typical Melbourne weather, cold and wet! But we soon got into the morning session, with the nidans and... above moving off with Ueki Shuseki Shihan for Kata. Going through nijusho bunkai, then sochin bunkai. The members going for grading today got to show their selected Kata to the group.......no pressure!!! After lunch we were finally herded together for the group photo, then we moved to Kumite with Ogura Shihan. He is simply amazing in how smooth yet fast he moves. He took us through some ido Kihon before moving onto versions of Kihon ippon Kumite. Strong stances again a focus. We were introduced to the concept of making Kihon ippon more of a "fight" than a set sequence of pre arranged moves, and the hip movement avoidance techniques were appreciated by all. (If anyone would be able to comment on the other groups activities it would be greatly appreciated!) through out the afternoon session we were all reminded again of a very important part of JKA karate...... It is budo karate and we should act accordingly. The examination session followed, and we wished them all luck as we thought of our own tired bodies, nothing like grading after 3 days training! We also say goodbye to our JKA Skc friends who are having their own competition tomorrow. See you all at 10am tomorrow for the final session. Oss!!!! See more

08.01.2022 The "Executive Summary" from today's first seminars......We started the day with Ueki Shuseki Shihan taking kihon, focusing on the more technical aspects includ...ing correct hand/arm positions for uchi, hikite and tsuki, as well as how to make strong stable stances. This was followed by maegeri with the importance of hikiashi and foot position during the preparation phase of the kick. After lunch we broke into groups, with the Nidans and above working with Ueki Shuseki Shihan on the Heian Kata/Basai Dai, and the other group, working with Ogura Shihan and Nishimura Shihan, doing something which I didn't see (Sorry!). All in all a very valuable day. It was great to see all the various JKA and shotokan groups working as one, sharing learning and making friendships. See you all tomorrow!!! See more

07.01.2022 Imagine its 1am on New Years Eve..........your not sleeping........No one is sleeping...........the "fireworks" are keeping you awake, falling on your house, fa...lling on your property......just small sparks here and there, small embers and burnt leaves, pieces of ash, nothing big, but a hint of whats coming.......the spotting from the bushfire approaching. A wind change is coming, but no ones sure when, and what impact it will have......It may divert the fire, it may not, it might even make it worse.....the wind change will save some, yet sacrifice others. You make the right decision, leave the house and take the family, your cat and your dog, the only true irreplaceable things in your house, and you look for a safe place. But where is safe when your town is burning. You return days later to nothing but ash, and wonder how to start again. Your town is gone. Your house is gone. Your belongings are gone, your treasured items are gone. Please, donate. Donations can be made via the JKAA go fund me link to help this family. gf.me/u/xaq5ic There are huge organisations, and huge charities at the moment asking for donations, but where will this money go? Of the money raised from the Black Saturday Bushfires very very little actually went to the people affected. It went to community centres, new council buildings, new playgrounds, new fire appliances, infrastructure of which many communities did not want. Our charity is going directly to help a JKA family, so please donate today in whatever capacity you can. Every little big helps. Please. oss.
07.01.2022 UPDATED SEMINAR PROGRAM!!!!! Please share to your members so everyone is aware of the new start times. OSS!!!
