08.01.2022 What are the differences between "Yame", "Yasume" and "Naore" ? Practicing karate, we often hear or use these terms. Each has its own meaning and must not be confused with one another. 1- "Yame" will be used when all movement are required to stop, such as during a kumite or during an unfinished kata. When "Yame" is called upon, all movements shall stop.... 2- "Naore" is usually used at the end of a kata to come back to a "straight" and "ready" position ("Yoi"). This is not a "relax" position. "Zanshin" (awereness) must be maintained. 3- "Yasume" is used to called for students to relax. Without "Yasume", student shall remain still. The use of "Yame", "Yasume" and "Naore" * A student is performing a kata and the Sensei wants to stop the performance before the end of the kata to teach a technical point. "Yame" is used. * A student has finished a kata. The student maintains the last kata position until Sensei calls "Naore". The student comes back to "Yoi". Sensei will then call "Yasume" for the student to relax. Now let's practice
