22.01.2022 As always an amazing opportunity for a free analysis; a well balanced diet can work wonders! A laugh with the answers but feel free to message the team for an analysis!

19.01.2022 So am going to re vamp this page; i will be one of the photographer's at Oaklands Horse Trails 2015! More then likely out on xc course

12.01.2022 Q: Do mycotoxins REALLY impact on horse health and behaviour? A: Yes! WHAT ARE MYCOTOXINS? Mycotoxins are harmful substances produced by bacteria and fungi tha...t grow on forage and grains. They can be present in pastures and grains pre- and post- harvest, or may build up if unprocessed grains or manufactured feeds are not well stored. They cannot be dectected by smell, taste or the naked eye. To date around 400 mycotoxins have been reported by scientists. Agriculture Victoria estimates that about 90% of perennial ryegrass plants in Australia are infected with endophyte. Endophyte toxin levels vary depending on the species of plant and endophyte and environmental conditions. Toxin levels tend to be higher during drought and in conditions of good plant nutrition. Endophytes are fungi that live in a symbiotic (mutually beneficial) relationship with pasture plants. The plant provides the fungi with protection, nutrition and dispersal. The fungi provides the plant with enhanced resistance to some insect pests, improves seedling establishment, photosynthesis, drought tolerance and increases seed production. WHAT ARE THE AFFECTS OF MYCOTOXINS? After ingestion, mycotoxins can negatively impact on gastrointestinal function, disrupting the intestinal mucosa and the microflora of the digestive tract before being absorbed into the bloodstream where they can impact on many organs. Mycotoxins can cause permanent damage to the liver, kidneys, brain and nervous system, and some are harmful to the developing foetus. Symptoms of mycotoxin load in horses is very broad depending on many factors including the type and amount of toxin present and the individual's immunity or tolerance to mycotoxins. It is not unusual for one horse in a paddock to be much more affected than others on identical feeds. HOW DO TOXIN BINDERS WORK? Toxin binders work in one of three ways. They can: 1. Physically adsorb (bind) the toxin due to the porous structure of the binder and intermolecular forces. 2. Chemically bind to the toxin - produces the strongest bonds. 3. Biotransform the toxin via enzymes (not strictly toxin binding, but an effective means of managing feed mycotoxins all the same). WHAT MAKES A GOOD TOXIN BINDER? Although many substances have toxin binding properties, to be effective and safe in animal nutrition it is important that they: * Are capable of binding the targeted mycotoxins. * Hold on to the toxin through the remainder of the journey through the gastrointestinal tract. * Specifically bind toxins, leaving important nutrients such as vitamins and minerals, and medications available for uptake into the bloodstream. * Be safe as a feed additive, non-toxic to animals. * Show scientifically demonstrated efficacy within animals at the lowest recommended dosage. The effectiveness of toxin binders can be improved by combining a number of active ingredients to broaden the range of toxins they can bind in the gut. They may also provide additional nutraceutical support through the addition of antioxidants, botanical extracts and probiotics. When selecting a toxin binder for your horse, ask for evidence that it doesn't tie up important nutrients including vitamins and minerals. FARMALOGIC GRAZAID provides a state of the art risk management solution to protect horses against mycotoxins and endotoxins based on biotransformation, adsorption and bioprotection. It contains synergistically acting ingredients: * Mineral and organic adsorbants which selectively bind adsorbable mycotoxins such as aflatoxins and ergot alkaloids. * Biotransformation agents proven to transform trichothecenes and fumonisins into non-toxic metabolites. * Specific yeast probiotics to detoxify zearalenone and ochratoxin A in the digestive tract. * Natural ingredients to provide immune support and reduce the toxic side effects caused by mycotoxins. Scientific investigations have demonstrated that the toxin binders in Farmalogic Grazaid are very specifically targeted to mycotoxins, leaving polar nutrients and medications available in the diet. Adsorption was proven to be independent from magnesium and iron cation levels and therefore independent of the cation exchange capacity of the binding minerals. Management of severely mycotoxin affected horses may be enhanced with the addition of antioxidants such as Farmalogic Melox to reduce the negative impact of free radical tissue damage associated with the presence of toxins in the body. Reduce the risk of aflatoxin contamination by only feeding forages, grains and feeds that have been well stored. Discard any damp, stained or smelly feed. If toxin binders do not rapidly assist your horse with mild symptoms, remove the horse from the pasture and seek veterinary advice. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT FARMALOGIC GRAZAID AT www.farmalogic.info
