25.01.2022 A great opportunity to make a positive impact on young Victorians, their communities and their road safety outcomes.

24.01.2022 Basically, bonking isn't the problem. Have some checks and balances in place, so there can be no conflicts of interest, preferential treatment or inappropriate use of entitlements and benefits. Easy!!

24.01.2022 It is obviously the day for underpaying wages. What makes me so angry about this is the HR Manager. To quote the article "Ms Tones argued that paying workers their entitled wages and overtime or penalty rates presented a major problem for the company. She also lamented a requirement to give staff mandatory breaks, given none were currently offered." Ironically, her LinkedIn profile state she is an 'Equality Advocate'.

23.01.2022 Interesting article about the coming changes to wages. http://www.smartcompany.com.au//george-christensen-pledg/

22.01.2022 The Fair Work Commission has decided to phase in the penalty rate cuts over 4 years. Employers will need to ensure they understand the decision, and stay on top of the numbers.

20.01.2022 It is a shame there is still so much sexism at work. Good policy and discussion are key to better understanding, and more effective and productive workplaces.

19.01.2022 Gave a brief presentation on this topic this morning. Having met my husband of almost 32 years at work, it is hypocritical to say ban all workplace romance. However, checks and balances are vital to avoid potential conflicts of interest, favouritism, future harassment allegations, and employee morale issues. https://www.sbs.com.au/ne/the-pitfalls-of-an-office-romance

18.01.2022 Sexual harassment isn't just experienced by women. The treatment Timothy Bye has allegedly received is appalling, and that a business would tolerate this treatment towards an individual is inexcusable. From a business perspective, being so short-sighted is guaranteed to damage the Company Brand - Google reviews are notching up the 1 stars as I write. All so unnecessary and avoidable with appropriate policy, procedure and training.

18.01.2022 From 1 July the minimum wage will rise by $22 per week or 59c per hour. Probably a decision that will make no-one happy!

17.01.2022 Cashback or just theft? These type of practices give some support to criminalising wage theft for employers who deliberately falsify records.

17.01.2022 Well wages are the topic of the week! A synopsis - Underpay your workers, get caught doing that. Ignore paying the penalties (including contemplating bankruptcy), get caught by ASIC. Then decide to continue trading under the radar, get caught doing that. Pay personal penalty and then transfer frozen funds to family trust, get caught doing that. End result - going to jail. Why bother, just pay the correct wages and entitlements from the start - simple.

17.01.2022 This is an eye-opener. Hard to believe that all the years and $$$ spent on ergonomic assessments may have been a waste of time. Personally, I do believe that getting up and moving and stretching at least once an hour is the most important thing any sedentary worker can do!

15.01.2022 Happy New Year to All. Thank you to everyone who has liked my page. To start the year and with Australia Day looming, an interesting prediction of the weekend to come. https://www.mybusiness.com.au//3850-businesses-warned-to-p Need help with managing sick leave? Get in touch.

15.01.2022 Know anyone in the book industry that needs some good advice??

15.01.2022 I've seen a number of articles lately about employees leaving jobs because of poor management, and now it appears they are bored. None of this news is new, in fact it is decades old. Want to improve a workplace, let's have a conversation. By the way, every job has its boring bits, minimising and managing those bits is life!

15.01.2022 This is an excellent article. As an HR practitioner, I have never been a fan of office relationships (too many end in tears). The conduct of these men, and the ethics of such considering their positions, left the CEO with little choice, but I felt it was a shame the women involved were identified, the partners and families have to go through this publicly, and that a situation that is most likely complex has been given the treatment it has by the press.

14.01.2022 There is a lot of talk about diversity in the workplace, but it appears that age discrimination is rife. As the ageing population gets larger, Employers need to be more open to the benefits of mature workers - think of all that knowledge!!! From experience, apart from skills and abilities, mature workers often bring a great amount of balance to the workplace, and are great mentors for the 'up and comers'.

14.01.2022 Great and timely article for all employers planning the annual Christmas celebration. Need help with your policies?

13.01.2022 Getting wages right is important. Even if underpayment was unintentional, you will be left with potentially large repayment amounts that may affect your budget and put a strain on the business. Continued mistakes can lead to penalties. Get it right the first time!

12.01.2022 Do you know when you have to pay sick leave and when you don't? https://www.mybusiness.com.au//3892-obscure-leave-rule-man

12.01.2022 Timing is everything - make sure you don't end up at FairWork for the wrong reasons!

12.01.2022 Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

12.01.2022 Fair Work has recently made changes to a number of Awards allowing the cash out of annual leave. Whether you're for or against the option, workplace policy will need to be updated. Check out my blog at www.jlfhr.com.au for why employee policies are important.

09.01.2022 Well there is always two sides to every story, but I would be very interested to know why the HR Manager told the Support Person to leave. Also "OK, so how do we want to plan your exit, Amy? I do understand that we don't want to make it humiliating for you." is constructive dismissal. If you are planning to dismiss someone, I advise you do it better than this!

09.01.2022 Wage underpayment complaints support a disturbing culture of non-compliance in the restaurant, cafe, and fast food sector. Get your wages right or prepare to pay a lot more in penalties.

08.01.2022 An excellent update from Herbert Smith Freehills on the changes to Long Service Leave in Victoria. http://hsfnotes.com//australia-long-service-leave-in-vict/

07.01.2022 The rise of social media has added a new dimension to how we work. Generally seen as more of a problem than an asset, a robust Social Media Policy is vital to ensure that all employees have a clear understanding of the required standard of behaviour, and their obligations in regard to the use of social media in their workplace. However, it can have advantages and Employers need to consider how they can use social media as a positive and engage staff in the process.

06.01.2022 Good article, and after reading some of the comments, it is good to know there are a lot of employers who could do with my services!

03.01.2022 I have no doubt discrimination is rife against mature age workers. Interestingly, I can say that most mature age workers I have employed have proven to be an asset to the business. Maturer employees often have great knowledge to share and are happy to mentor the less experienced. Some employers don't know what they're missing.

02.01.2022 Do you employ casuals? Make sure you're up to date with their employment rights. http://hsfnotes.com//australia-a-not-so-casual-decision-b/

01.01.2022 I think Gen X gave up on the idea of a job for life, but always interesting to consider what employers can do to attract and retain (for a reasonable period) the staff they need.

01.01.2022 Having a Personal Leave policy is always a good idea!
