25.01.2022 I just completed my first online yoga class. Thank you Light Space Yoga for providing such a wonderful and convenient way to keep practicing. It is so important to keep up physical activity, particularly now that gyms have closed. Stay well. ... This too will pass.

17.01.2022 It is far too easy, particularly when working from home, to not allow yourself the breaks you need to move and stretch your body. There’s often too much work, or you reserve breaks only for eating, rather than body maintenance. As much as it might interrupt your work flow, it is a great idea to stand up once an hour for a couple of minutes and simply move your back, hips, shoulders, and neck around for a few moments. Your pain or stiffness can reduce by doing small consiste...nt things every day. Happy moving! Julia www.treatmypain.com.au #clinicalmyotherapy #myotherapy #ringwood #ringwoodeast

02.01.2022 Jogging tips! As the weather is becoming more consistently lovely (and as the state of Victoria is now open to us!) a few of you will feel tempted to don the running shoes again! Below is a useful list of things to remember as we sprint into spring!... 1) If your runners are looking well worn it might be time to invest in a new pair. Look for good supportive shoes that meet the needs of your feet. Head to stores like the Athletes foot, or your local, friendly podiatrist to direct you to the type of shoe that would suit you best. 2) Start slowly! If you are new to running there are plenty of Apps out there that take you through a good starting regime (usually run for 1 minute and rest for 1 minute, and over time the rest is decreased and the running is increased). Take it easy and don’t push yourself too hard at the beginning. 3) Stretch as part of your cool down process. Stretching before a run can be useful for muscles, but stretching after you have completed your run is most important! Stretch areas such as calves, quads, hip flexors, and glutes. 4) Hydrate! Your water bottle is your friend. Don’t forget to fill it up and drink! 5) Take rest days. Too much too quickly can begin to tighten our muscles and can lead to pain. 6) Head for treatment if you start to feel sore. Your local, friendly Myotherapist can help you if you start to feel pain. Have a great run! Julia Image source: https://images.pexels.com//2968/pexels-photo-2968388.jpeg

02.01.2022 The weather in Melbourne has certainly warmed up, and I don’t know about you, but I get too hot and tired to follow my normal exercise routines. However... if you find yourself relaxing in the water (or jumping about, or actual swimming!), you can still incorporate some good stretches into your preferred water based activities. Great areas to stretch in water are: Legs: - Quads... - Hanstrings - Calves Hips: - Hip Flexors (lunges) - Glutes Back: - Side flexion stretches - Rotation based stretches And if you are doing lots of swimming don’t forget to stretch your arms, neck, and shoulders! Happy swimming and stay cool! www.treatmypain.com.au #myotherapy #clinicalmyotherapy #ringwood

01.01.2022 Don’t we all like a back bend! If you’ve been spending days at your computer, tablet, or phone you might find yourself feeling quite rounded in the shoulder, which can increase your chance of neck and back pain. At the end of the day it’s important to stretch, just like my blue-tongued friend here! You can lie on your belly, place your hands underneath your shoulders and gently push up until you feel a stretch in the front of your body, and hold it for 30-69 seconds. If this ...is too intense you could try doing the same exercise but try leaning your body against a wall and then pushing off. Key things to remember are that if you feel any pain try not to stretch too deeply, and give yourself lots of time to ease into the stretch. Happy stretching! treatmypain.com.au
