23.01.2022 In recent weeks, two of our junior riders have started learning the ins and outs of Dressage and Hack/Show competitions. Last week the girls joined forces to learn how to read and call out dressage tests for each other. They learnt that correct and optimal timing of instruction gives the rider and mount the best opportunity to prepare and set themselves up for success. Today’s lessons were conducted outside of the indoor arena - to gain experience and confidence when riding i...n an open environment and to understand what protocol is required when competing in the hack/show ring. This is a first for both young ladies and marks a significant milestone in their riding education: Miss G (one of our tiniest riders) learnt about what is expected of a handler and their mount when participating in in-hand/led-line classes. She also walk-trotted independently out in the open space on our tallest horse Mr Tiger. They performed workouts that included figure 8’s, sitting trot and two-point position. Miss G and her faithful stead did a fantastic job! Miss K in her weekly lessons has been working on developing a balanced seat and more subtle hands. By practicing and consolidating these skills on the lunge first it makes it easier for riders to concentrate on their technique and stability. Having recently transitioned off the lunge Miss K confidently achieved an independent and controlled canter for the first time outside the arena today. Super effort - Well Done! We are very proud to be able to support these lovely dedicated young riders to further develop their interest, skills and experience in equestrian sports.

21.01.2022 September in a nutshell Firstly, we would like to thank our very dedicated and supportive Sunday riders. Their patience and flexibility has enabled us to introduce some more of our riders to Hacking and Dressage competition. With the impacts of Covid-19 and the competition season nearing its end, we have taken the opportunity to get the horses out and about again over the last few weeks. Moggill Pony Club T-Shirt Hack Show Sunday 6th September 2020...... Sisters Miss M and Miss H were provided with the opportunity to take their own pony Mr George out to their first ever competition. Miss M was awarded 1 x First, 2 x Second and 1 x Forth. Miss H was awarded 3 x First and 1 x Third. Miss C was invited to take Mr Choc-chip Cookie. The pair were awarded 3 x Firsts and 1 x Third in the Beginner Ring. While Ms Mel supported these young riders, over in Open Hack ring Miss Jess competed with Mr Paddy for the day. Lockyer Equestrian Group (LEG’s) Sunday 13th September 2020... Miss Jess rode the beautiful Mr Tiger placing 1st with a very respectable 71.2%. Ms Mel rode the striking Mr Paddy in her very first Prix Caprilli test placing 2nd with a score of 67.22%. Prix Caprilli is a dressage test that includes a small jumping element. Since the recent acquisition of Bobby, Miss K has been navigating the transition from our school horses to first horse ownership. Both Miss K and Mum handled the challenges of their first outing with an ‘onwards and upwards’ attitude despite some pony malfunctions occurring on the day. Miss T also took her lovely horse Mr Champion out for their first dressage test for a score of 56.82% and also tried her hand at the Prix Caprilli test. Cedar Grove T-Shirt Hack Show Sunday 27th September 2020... Was an opportunity for some of our adult riders to have a go! Ms Mel with Mr Paddy; Mrs J took Mr Stanley and Miss T rode Mr Tiger. An assortment of placings were awarded and plenty of constructive feedback provided. Miss T was awarded Reserve Champion in the rider class on Mr Tiger. Many thanks to Lockyer Equestrian Group, Moggill Pony Club and Cedar Grove and District Riding Club for running these events! As the School Holiday program has now come to an end, its time for a week of rest and relaxation for the JMD team! To start the week off on the right hoof, all of our horses received their well deserved body treatment from the Amazing Lena From Animal Biomechanical Solutions. We look forward to seeing all of our riders again when Term 4 Lessons resume on Monday 12 October.

21.01.2022 Christmas is just around the corner... and we now have gift certificates available!!! For the month of December, we are offering a Christmas deal: Buy 4 lessons and get 25% off the the 5th lesson.

21.01.2022 Gold stars all around for Mr Tiger and Betty Boop! It’s not very often we have a chance to take the horses out but last Saturday, we had the opportunity to take the pair out to compete at the Twilight Hack Show and Dressage day held by Lockyer Equestrian Group (LEG’s) at Gatton. There is a significant amount of preparation involved for an outing from training the horses to cleaning their tack not to mention the hours spent grooming and plaiting before we eve...n think about loading the ponies on to the float. Both horses competed in the Prelim 1B dressage test against a large field of 18 competitors. Jess and Tiger placed equal third with a score of 66.95 %. A fantastic effort for his first competition in unfamiliar surroundings! Betty was ranked 12th in the dressage, but more importantly she sure did us proud by looking after little Miss G who was invited to participate in her first hack show. The encouragement ring enables new participants to equestrian sports to learn protocols, build confidence and gain experience in a friendly and supportive environment. Miss G brought home some ribbons but the smile on her face could not be outdone! Jess also successfully competed Tiger in the Open Hack ring and Betty in the Open Galloway ring winning an assortment of ribbons on both mounts. Managing multiple horses across numerous rings can be a bit of a handful, but with the help of a wonderful support crew we got through the day! Another one of our young riders Miss T and her pony Flicka, also competed in the encouragement ring. The pair did well to earn themselves a number of ribbons throughout the day. Miss T and Flicka also achieved a lovely left lead canter something they have been working towards in lessons and training sessions. Well done A big thank you to LEGS, Team JMD, and our beautiful 4-legged partners!

17.01.2022 Happy Easter from the team at JMD Equestrian!

12.01.2022 Did you know that poorly fitting tack can block the horse’s movement and cause significant pain - often resulting in horses expressing their discomfort through undesirable and dangerous behaviours? A correctly fitting saddle is essential to ensure the horses have maximum comfort, freedom to move and the opportunity to develop the correct muscles which enables them to perform to the best of their ability. A horse's muscle shape and contours change over time and can be influen...ced by changes in physical activity and nutrition, so consulting a professional saddle fitter at regular intervals (6-12 months) is beneficial to both the horse and rider. Our horses are ridden in Wintec Isabell Werth Dressage saddles and earlier this week we had Naomi from Inline Equine out to have our saddles adjusted to fit each horse and to check them for structural soundness. Thanks Naomi!

11.01.2022 Information for new and existing clients: Recently we have been inundated with requests for lesson bookings. The interest you have shown in sharing your horse riding journey with us is very much appreciated. We try our best to be responsive to the messages, calls and emails we receive and apologise for any delays in response. Lessons at JMD Equestrian are taught individually. One-on-One coaching gives riders the best opportunity to develop, consolidate and advance their ridi...ng at an accelerated rate compared to lessons conducted in a group setting. Unfortunately, this can make it difficult to fit everyone into our very full lesson schedule. At this stage we have very limited availability as the majority of our pupils occupy a set time-slot each week. We are however able to offer casual lessons as they become available. eg: due to cancellation/holiday absences etc. With a view to accommodate your request, we have created a wait list for casual and regular lessons availabilities. If you would like to be considered for these opportunities, please send us a message with your preferences for the following: -Day/s -Time/s -Lesson duration -Frequency Please also include the following details: -Riders full name -Age -Any other considerations -Best contact details JMD Equestrian thank you for your patience and support. Kind regards, Jess and Mel =)

10.01.2022 People often ask, how soon a horse can be broken in? Take a look at this! Such valuable insight, it takes years for the bones of the horse to fully develop and set.

07.01.2022 An oldie but a goodie!.... After lessons, we often are asked about the management of our equine friends in the QLD climate. This post from Dr David Marlin explains the science behind the choice we make for our horses here at JMD Equestrian.

05.01.2022 Offered for your consideration- For sale on behalf of client Harcourt Paper Boy - (Flicka) ... Flicka is a lovely little 12.3hh registered Welsh B gelding. Flicka was purchased as a 12 month old colt and has been with the with his current family for 6 years. He has grown up alongside his now 11yr old rider who has very sadly outgrown this lovely pony. He has been a great all-round pony - PC gymkhanas, jumping days, NBHA barrel days, working cow days, hack and Ag shows bringing in over 80 ribbons. He has also been an awesome lead line pony. This pony’s career is only just beginning! In the short time I have been able to get to know this pony under saddle, he has shown real potential to excel in the hack ring and dressage arena with the right rider. I have had him for a week of training and he was already able to pick up some lateral work. He is up to date with worm, dental and bare foot trim. Has previously been hot shod. Not Hendra vaccinated. Super easy to transport, angle/straight or truck. Easy to wash, worm, trim, clip and tack-up. Handled independently by his young rider. $6500 includes x2 saddles (near new) bridles and a large wardrobe of rugs. Truly hard sale, but rider has outgrown and needs to move into a bigger horse. Approved home only. Flicka Is located in Wanora, qld, 4306

05.01.2022 Rain Like many others, we have been affected by the drought. The property has not seen any decent rain in such a long time, so much so that the paddocks sadly turned to nothing but dirt and dust... But the good news is - that in the last few days, we have been fortunate enough to receive some much needed rain! Ducks have been swimming in the puddles and we even have some little green baby grass sprouts trying their hardest to come through!! ... We are also very grateful to have the use of the 60 x 20mtr indoor dressage arena, so lessons can go ahead - rain or shine. See more

05.01.2022 Not sure if your child would like to learn to ride? We welcome you to book in a little horsie fun time with a short 15mins PONY RIDE experience . This week, we had lots of children around for an afternoon of fun pony rides! At first, little Louise was very nervous and not really sure she wanted to get on at all, but once she was up it was a challenge to get her back off! ... When it was time to leave she couldn't resist coming back to say goodbye to our sweet boy Mr Tiger .

01.01.2022 The lovely pony Flicka has now been sold! Congratulations to his new family, who are over the moon with this little guy. Flicka had been transported across the NSW border for a two week trial... and within the first week they have decided to make it official and purchase him. Good luck to Mr Flicka and his new family!... While we continue the search for a suitable horse for Miss T to move on to, Cowboy will be keeping her company for a little while so she can keep up with her regular riding routine at home. We know they are both in good hands!
