09.01.2022 In other circumstances, this week we would have officially reopened the Cutler Footway in Paddington. Restoring this 110 year old bridge so it can serve Sydney ...for another century was a long and complicated process. An entirely new road and a wider footpath had to be laid, all without placing too much weight on the historic tramway viaduct beneath it. As work progressed, we restored art deco etchings on the viaduct, and carefully removed four old tram poles so they could be donated to the Sydney Tramway Museum. And while we can’t celebrate the opening of the bridge with the community this week, I’m incredibly grateful for the work that was put in by heritage architects, engineers and builders to make this project a reality. Paddo, enjoy walking over your restored footbridge (1.5 metres apart), and I look forward to celebrating its completion with you soon.
