The ...event was part of the Australian Grand Slam of Surfing which next stop is in Queensland and then continues onto Margaret River. Both of Australia’s male Olympic Team members Owen Wright and Julian Wilson were eliminated in the Quarterfinals by the eventual winner Ethan Ewing and 2020 Tour Rookie Jack Robinson showing the future of Australian surfing is in strong hands. Robinson fell just short in his semi final heat but was on fire all event, showing his skills in beach breaks are just as strong as in the heavy reef breaks. There is a low pressure moving down the coast on Friday which looks interesting with more ENE winds and a 1.6m west swell filling in during the day which could possibly turn into the NW direction during the afternoon. The winds tend into the North on Saturday with a small 1m swell from the WNW and Sunday should have winds from the WNW and a rising 1.5m swell. ...Yallingup Boardriders put on a show at the Australian Boardriders Battle team event last weekend at Trigg Beach. Faced with solid and stormy surf conditions, there was plenty of swell for the event which proved beneficial for the Yallingup riders who claimed a hard fought second place to the Trigg locals. Six of WA’s best boardriding clubs battled each other as well as the elements, as large swells and strong onshore winds battered the metropolitan coastline. In the tightest finish in recent history, Trigg Point scraped ahead of Yallingup, Margaret River and Surf Beach in an enthralling 60-minute final. When the final siren sounded there was less than two points separating first, second and third. Yallingup’s young gun Kael Walsh was awarded the Oakley Prize Performer Award for some electric surfing throughout the event. It was definitely tough work out there, said Walsh. I'm stoked with how well the team surfed today and to be acknowledged amongst all these great surfers is awesome. Luke Campbell anchored the Trigg Point team who had to come from behind after a red-hot start from Yallingup’s Jack Thomas and Kael Walsh, who both dropped excellent opening scores which saw them finish in second and also qualify for the National Final to be held in 2021. The weekend brings some cleaner S winds and a solid 3m plus swell on Saturday while there will be offshore SE winds on Sunday with a fun 2m swell. Yallingup and Dunsborough surfers, Otis North and Maverick Wilson have been crowned State Champions in the Under 16 and Under 14 Boys last weekend at Trigg Beach. The dynamic pair competed in 3 state rounds in 2020 and won t...heir titles from the best 2 results of the year. Maverick Wilson claimed the Under-14 Grom Boys State Title in one of the closest results of the weekend. Despite some great surfing of his own, Wilson was challenged all the way by an exciting group of finalists who nipped at his heals at every opportunity. Wilson's heat high 6.38 (out of a possible 10) was the difference in the end as Okie Fraser (Margaret River), Remy North (Yallingup) and Sebastien Low (Trigg) searched hard for solid back up scores. "That was a little bit too close for my liking," said Wilson. "The boys pushed me all the way and to win the State Title is a result I'm really proud of." Brock Launders from Margaret River posted one of his best results recently, taking out the hotly contested Under-16 Boys division. Some smooth and rapid fire turns that saw him post a 12.68 two-wave total, which included an excellent 8.00 (from a possible 10). Yallingup's Otis North finished in second, ahead of Jack Mickle (Trigg) and Travis Barkhuizen (Eglington). The second place finish for North backed up his win in Margaret River to saw him claim the Under-16 State Championship Title for 2020. "It means a lot to be crowned State Champion," said North. "It was a really close race between a few of the guys I want to thank them for pushing me all the way."
