25.01.2022 We dont just do breakers here. We also re-educate. So if your pony is abit like this guy and comes home from a breaker, abit spooky or just not right. Or maybe theyve learnt a few bad habits over the years. We also take on horses like this. However. Abit of time off due to crappy weather mostly. Then some work again re establishing the basics and this horse is almost safe enough to start under saddle again.

24.01.2022 Just a boy and his horse. These two will be up to no good when I hand the reins over to Wyatt when hes older lol #jnperformancehorses #justaboyandhishorse

23.01.2022 Text from Talbert Farrier Services, Pic from Huuf-ch - too good to not share: This isn't my photo. I don't know who to credit it to, but it is a great illustr...ation. Heels grow forward, not down. As farriers, we've all heard owners request (or in some instances demand) "don't touch the heels", or "take all the toe you can but leave the heel", also we occasionally hear some trainer or self taught farrier saying the same sort of baloney. Such a statement is a pretty good indicator that the person knows next to nothing about a horse's hoof and is just parroting what they've been told from some other yahoo. As heels grow forward, the base of support moves forward as well. This contributes to the development of the exact hoof type the "leave all the heel" genius is trying to avoid. I've followed farriers who were fired for allegedly taking too much heel, when in fact they were taking no heel, just as they were told, and that was the problem. (That and they decided it was easier to go along to get along rather than attempt to educate someone who was already so confident in their knowledge on the subject.) So this is like a PSA. "Leave all the heel you can" tells you the person knows as much about a horse's hoof as a person telling a NASA engineer they oughta attach a windmill to the next space shuttle to save on fuel. Just stop. Photo credit: Andi Weishaupt

22.01.2022 We would like to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas from all of us at JN Performance Horses. We hope you all have a wonderful day

22.01.2022 Today was the Ballarat Stockmans Challenge! What a day! Whilst the weather was interesting and other then the events we had a lot of challenges like Camels and rides that looked liked they were going to land on us Neuro had a great attempt at his second Stockmans Challenge. We placed 3rd in Obstacles... 2nd in Time Trial And 2nd Overall Very proud of this guy! Thanks Sebastian for a great event, Ringers Western for the gift voucher and John for being amazing and keeping me and the rocket level headed

22.01.2022 After a car accident left our vehicle out of action Id just like to thank friends and family who have helped us through this. After confirming Nicole and kids were okay we settled off to the first trail ride for the Golden Plains Trail Riders. We swapped Nicole for Shaydee and she did a wonderful John helping and stewarding on the ride. On Sunday we attended the Easter jackpot race held by Blue Sky Extreme Cowboys. Shaydee rode shenays pony Diablo and a friends horse YLS ...Vivacious. Shaydee placed 3rd on Vivacious and 4th in Diablo. Pretty good for a kid that hasnt ridden either horse much. John and his mare Vivacious placed 3rd in the Pro division. Wasnt how we planned on starting the weekend but it definitely ended well. Thanks again to everyone who helped us and is continuing to help us. We truely appreciate it

21.01.2022 Took two of the breakers for a swim in the dam. . Pep loves water so she wasn’t fussed at all. Rocky isn’t such a fan of the water but handled it well. John and Shaydee took turns laying over pep and eventually John rode pep very briefly. . Rocky wasn’t quite up for that but handled being laid over and splashed. Was a great cool off for everyone. ... . . #jnperformancehorses #quarterhorse #appaloosa #summerfun See more

20.01.2022 Congratulations John and his mare Vivacious. Also congratulations to Sam and her mare YLS Vivacious.

20.01.2022 The patchy pony coming along nicely now. He’s a lot softer and more trusting. Next step will be riding him now we have all the basics established and each other’s trust #jnperformancehorses #patchypony #paintedpony #horsetrainer #horsebreaker #reeducation

20.01.2022 The other weekend Nicole and Neuro lead the golden plains trail riders club out on a 14km ride through the bush surrounding Smythesdale. Was a great ride and the weather held off for most the day. Our little shenay even had another canter on Diablo. Therell be no slowing them down soon. Shaydee handled Viva very well which was great as viva was very keen. Overall a great ride. Thanks Grace and Hayden for the photos. Theyre brilliant.

20.01.2022 John has been putting our buckskin mare Pep through her paces. Then has been handing the reins over to Shay-Dee and teaching her what to do. Pep has been a fantastic horse for Shay-Dee to learn the ropes on. #jnperformancehorses #breakerintraining #quarterhorse #teachingthemyoung

19.01.2022 We had these two QHs for the last two weeks. Going to make super horses in the future so able willing to learn. But their mumma was glad to have them home again

19.01.2022 Merry Christmas to all our friends, family and clients. We hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow and a very safe and happy new year from all of us at JN Performance horses

18.01.2022 A rather thick dusting of snow today. Most of the horses enjoyed it. Tommy liked eating it off the rails whilst Neuro was happy to be fed snow by the kids lol

18.01.2022 Big lot of firsts for the new kid on the block Rocky. First float trip yesterday a whopping 12 hours almost. Then today meeting the other animals on the farm from the poddy bull and lamb to the pigs down the paddock. Being led off the quad bike, getting his front toes trimmed and now a rug. Welcome to the family Rocky

18.01.2022 ANZAC Day was spent a little different this year. This was last year at Boondooma Homestead in QLD. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning... We will remember them. See more

18.01.2022 Took the breakers out today. Was Cheifs 2nd ride started off in the round yard then went for a quick ride through the bush whilst John long reined tommy. This was Tommys 2nd time being long reined out of the round yard. Both horses handled it like old hands. So proud of them both. Theyve both come along so very nicely. Of course our dogs blue and Bear had to come for a ride also.

18.01.2022 It’s so good watching these guys grow together and gain confidence together. #jnperformancehorses #quarterhorse

17.01.2022 On Saturday we went to the EXCA Vic State Champs hosted by AEC in mansfield. What a great event. John kicked my backside and helped me get the nerves and encouraged me to trust my little redhead and let him run. So i did. Wow what a race he ran! Thanks Neuro for ride. We have alot to work on still but for your 3rd ever cowboy event. Well done pony. We also brought home a 4th place ribbon in the Pro Rider event. Shocked and stoked. Thanks little guy. Thanks also to pinky, deb... and Elisa who all reminded me to breathe. John and Vivacious had a great run too. With an amazing power slide when working their cow! Great job! Super proud and whilst they didnt place. It was a huge step up for Viva. It was her 3rd race also. Plus she has had the last 2 weeks out due to a grass seed in her eye which then lead to conjunctivitis. As well as some nasty teeth that got fixed during this time. So a huge effort for this mare who always seems to impress us. We couldnt be happier with this mare. Heres to the next one

17.01.2022 Neuros first time with two whips. Considering Nic is abit rusty today went well. A few off cracks which landed on Neuro, were handled rather well. Proud of how this gelding puts all his trust in Nic and will have a crack at pretty much anything she asks. . . . .... . . . . #jnperformancehorses #aqhagelding #flappinoak #oaksstylishbaby #whippony #crackingtime #sending2019offwithbang See more

16.01.2022 UPDATE: Horse has been found safe and well. Thank you everyone for the shares and kind thoughts. Missing horse! Can everyone please keep an eye out for a missi...ng buckskin mare. Currently she is a little lighter in colour than the photos. She has vanished from a property in the Newlyn area. If you have seen her please contact me or Tanya. Please share and help get this mare back where she belongs.

16.01.2022 Thank you Ballarat Show for the Extreme Cowboy Jackpot. We took two horses today. Flappin Oak (Neuro) and Vivacious (Viva). What a day! ... Both horses were feeling rather fresh and full of themselves but produced the goods. Vivacious finished the day with 4th in the Green Horse 4th in the Pro Flappin Oak finished the day with 3rd in the Green Horses Both horses faced obstacles they normally wouldnt deal with ever so now we have some new things to practice. Overall we learnt a lot, had a blast and are looking forward to the show next

16.01.2022 This young horse is just always stepping up and taking everything in his stride. First time in the roping saddle with the rear cinch on and we rode some steep hills. He never even hesitated. Lead the pack, sat at the back and even helped when Neuro nearly wiped Wyatt and I off. All accident and we are all okay.

15.01.2022 Big day of firsts for chief today. Very happy with this young horse

14.01.2022 Couldnt have said it better ourselves! Another reason why it pays to use a master farrier

14.01.2022 Brought chief back since moving back from QLD. He had a quick long reining session yesterday and today. I threw the saddle on, laid over him and walked round the yard. He was perfect.

14.01.2022 Lots of fun was had at the Berringa Blue Sky Extreme Cowboys Christmas Rally. Neuro is getting better with trash boxes and see saws. We had a go at the wobble board with much success. Many thanks to the Wilson family for letting Shay-Dee ride Sunday! Shay-dee did her first ever jump and is getting better at encouraging her horse to do what was asked. In the mini comp. John and his mare Vivacious won the advanced jackpot. This mare is just getting better every time. Looking forward to what Blue Sky brings to the club in 2020.

12.01.2022 Finally found some decent mineral blocks. What a hit they have been. Rocky, chief and Diablo surely approve

12.01.2022 Some of my favourite photos from the photographer on the weekend. Now to pick a few to purchase!

11.01.2022 Huge thanks to a good friend Shaun who came up for a visit and hopped on tommy for us. Due to injuries John and I have been unable. But his first ride here with us was perfect. Not a hoof put wrong. He was relax and not nervous. Pretty good considering all the fresh grass around. . . . .... #jnperformancehorses #pintopony #breaker See more

10.01.2022 When mum and dad wont let you play with the yearlings. You improvise. our whippet Blue was very cooperative but not very impressed. #jnperformancehorses #obstacletraining #bridgework #whippet #gooddog

09.01.2022 The littlest cowboy finally has his own pony. Wyatt was stoked when dad and Gam brought little basil out and said it was his very own pony. Welcome to the family Basil. #jnperformancehorses #cowboy #newpony #merrychristmas

09.01.2022 The babies are officially off holidays and are in being started. John worked Pep (buckskin) before i got home from work and was mostly through working Shêtan as well. But I managed to get some snaps. He had Rocky (appy) waiting for me, which was just what I needed. Was so great to reconnect with my baby horse now that Neuro is out for a while. All the babies worked great. Pep has some sass but we like that about her and she settled quickly. Hopefully the new year will bring many memories with these three.

09.01.2022 Getting the girls to ride bareback a lot lately. Both have improved so much more then just their balance. #jnperformancehorses #quarterhorses #barebackriding

07.01.2022 The patchy pony coming along nicely now. Hes a lot softer and more trusting. Next step will be riding him now we have all the basics established and each others trust #jnperformancehorses #patchypony #paintedpony #horsetrainer #horsebreaker #reeducation

06.01.2022 With a lot of patience from myself and the help of Sam for some extra reassurance. Neuro successfully did the big see saw. Thanks Sam for your help my little scaredy-cat is getting braver.

06.01.2022 Horse Trainers are small businesses too! I know Im biased, but Im writing this for everyone in the horse industry. We are living through a very uncertain and stressful situation right now. Schools, business, and places of worship are closed. People are told to stay in your home unless absolutely necessary. Its easy and quite frankly natural to pull everything in, stock up on food, and prepare to hunker down. In the midst of the turmoil, I would like to ask you to remember ...your horse trainer. This is the person who has been dedicated to helping you reach your goals in your equine discipline. Theyve helped you find your unicorn. Theyve taught you to conquer the show pen. He or she has dedicated their blood, sweat, and tears to training your horse, making it the best it can be. Youre trainer has spent hours keeping your equine athlete fit and healthy. Theyve nursed colicky horses, iced injuries, packed abscesses, and treated wounds. They have sat for hours with pregnant mares, even sleeping in the barn, keeping a watchful eye just in case she needs help. He or she has halter broke your babies and cared for your senior war horses. Whether they were putting earnings on your horse or celebrating your showmanship, your trainer has been behind you every step of the way. They love your horses as if they were their own. You may not realize that your animals become part of their families. Our economy feels fragile right now and many people will quickly cut out all extras and immediately take their horses home. Some people will have no choice in the matter. That is totally understandable. However, if it is possible for you to leave your horse with your trainer, even if only on a maintenance program, I implore you to search your heart and do so. With the show season being postponed indefinitely, many trainers are wondering how they will get by. It is no secret that most trainers dont do this job for the money. Most trainers do it out of love for the lifestyle and the animals. Many do it because they love to teach. It is not a glamorous career laden with riches, but it is an honorable one driven by hard work, dedication, and passion. In a world that feels so volatile, take a moment to reflect on the effects that this pandemic is having on your equine family. Are the stables emptying? Have they turned out all other horses? Is your trainer quieter than usual? Are you in a position to be a blessing? This too shall pass, but in the meantime...remember your horse trainer. (Author Unknown)

05.01.2022 Whilst lockdown has begun its business as usual for us there’s just a few extra helpers around. Wyatt is always up for helping out. Whereas the girls are never anywhere to be found lol

05.01.2022 A flying trip up to Benambra. A small community in Victorias North East to drop off some food relief, animal supplements and animal first aid at both Omeo and Benambra relief centres. Stopped in at Aunty Jos to drop off some bananas and camp the night. We trimmed a few horses whilst there. They havent burnt yet but heard it was a matter of time, the smoke was thick, supplies short and local CFA and DELWP fire fighters exhausted. They continue to push on. Truely amazing peo...ple. Glad we brought a few smiles and took abit of stress off. Only wish we could do more. We are planning another trip up the mountain once we have sourced more needed supplies. Thanks to Ryebucks Australia, Happy Horse Produce and Pheniox Feeds. But also thank you to our Blue Sky Extreme Cowboy Club who have supported this flying trip before the road was shut again. I didnt get many photos as we were flat chat for the few hours of daylight we had.

05.01.2022 Enjoyed a lovely afternoon ride. Some very steep hills. But the girls and the green pony Chief all coped very well.

04.01.2022 Another lovely day at Bluedale. Getting Neuro ready for his first horsemanship challenge. Princess tagged along for some fun also. Thanks Petra for letting shenay ride Heaven.

04.01.2022 Great day out with Blue Sky Extreme Cowboys. Out on the trail today. A lot of green horses which is great to see. Neuro again not so keen on the baby sitting role but did great. As did Cruz and Viva for Sam and John. After the ride. Neuro and I ponied out a young Arab gelding for Johns niece Jena. Successful day all round.

03.01.2022 Brought Shenay a new saddle. A little synthetic half breed. What a difference in her riding. The little stocky was great to start with but she is so much more confident in this saddle. So now little rascal has her old stocky for when hes ready to start riding. Which I think wont be far away.

03.01.2022 Our monthly Blue Sky Extreme Cowboys Club day. Shay-Dee took Princess out for her first time and they did super. Attempted every obstacle and then worked on their side pass with Club president Sam. Nicole assisted on foot in the lead part of the morning and then on horse back. John helped when needed but sat with the kids as hes recovering from an injury. Great day had by all. Thanks Amber F Photography for the photos

02.01.2022 Our lovely ride yesterday

02.01.2022 Over the weekend we as a family volunteered our time to support a great cause, Sam Wilson hosted a ride for MND. What a wonderful weekend. From people bringing their young horses for a chill weekend of riding, to horses and carts and then our very own Shenay and Diablo successfully had their first canter which was OFF THE LEAD! Plenty of laughs, Great tracks, lots of awesome people, amazing food and awesome music which had everyone up and dancing! Thanks so much for having us. We will be there to support you guys next year!

02.01.2022 Nicole had the pleasure of hosting a small group of people to teach how to Whip Crack on foot and horse back today at Blue Sky Extreme Cowboys club day today. Was great to see everyone improve their technique and most people getting a whip on their horse by the end of the session. Thanks John and Shay-dee for helping and Blue Sky for hosting us

01.01.2022 Red bull likes to meet and greet the breakers. Good thing this guy was okay with the idea. #brahmancattle #poddycalf #desensitization
