25.01.2022 A safe place to land.

24.01.2022 It is very interesting sorting out old family photos. It explains a lot of things

24.01.2022 Groove out baby. The Melangata Station Organ has never sounded so good. @the_tegz123 @jaydenv11 you might need to consider music lessons. #stayhome #music #outbackwesternaustralia #stationlife

24.01.2022 Golly I am blessed to have so many wonderful people drop through #melangatastationstay and how lovely to get such a beautiful personal gift. Money and adulation are two things that have never really been a motivating factor in my life and when I hear stories like the one I am about to tell you then I know why. One of our guests said this morning that while her late husband was in the final stages of his battle with cancer he found my cooking videos on YouTube and spent many ...days cooking when he could and it bought him great joy. She said he fell in love with camp oven cooking and and just a bit in love with me too. To say my eyes leaked just a little bit is an understatement and thank goodness I was able to give her a big hug. You can keep all your thousands of followers and seriously who and what the hell is an influencer and who really cares. The true gift anyone can give is to provide comfort and joy to just one human who is in their last days. That for me is life and it is golden. #campovenqueen #food #life #comfort See more

24.01.2022 Now this is real #bushtucker I have never met a person yet that has not been convinced that my baked kangaroo tail in some sort of spicy sauce isn't just the ducks nuts. #campovenqueen #campovencooking #castiron #castironcooking #outbackwesternaustralia #stationlife

23.01.2022 We seem to have an abundance of miss mothered lambs this year. So guess who gets to be the surrogate. Yep that's right. Me. 4 of them so far two are almost ready for a name. The rules are they have to survive 7 nights before they get a name. Then once they have a name they can't be turned into chops. #lambs #lambsofinstagram #babyanimals #farmanimals

23.01.2022 Nope didn't enjoy it one little bit. @delishice it just disappeared all by its self. #delishice #refreshing #hitthespot

22.01.2022 I had a lovely group of camp oven cooking enthusiasts at the station the other week. One of the women had a sourdough mother and she gave me some. My first loaf and I am pretty pleased. #campovenqueen #sourdough #homesteadcooking #homemade #foodofmelangatastation #dutchoven #instafood

21.01.2022 This #outback #reddirt #woman is getting her feet wet in the ocean for a few days. Then it's back to my #heart #country at #melangatastationstay #outbackwesternaustralia #outbackpathways #australiasgoldenoutback

21.01.2022 It can be made just that little bit harder in the bush when people in places of decision making don't know and frankly appear as they just don't care.

21.01.2022 @perthccshow starts tomorrow. Stop by at the Camp and chill tipi and catch-up with all the Goss on camp oven cooking. #campovenqueen #campovencooking #outbackwesternaustralia #travelfood #castironcooking

20.01.2022 Pizza making with the grandkids. Dinner is done. Pretty good looking pizza if I say so. #instayum #instafood #stayhome #selfisolation #cooking #campovenqueen

20.01.2022 Cooking it up again. #instayum #campovenqueen #castironcooking #outdoor #food

19.01.2022 In these times of restrictions and for those of us in WA alcohol restrictions too. If you are getting a bit jittery about your future. Maybe this could help. #stayhome #homemade #homegrown

17.01.2022 Today I downed tools at the homestead and headed out for a bit of an explore with @getlosttours and we found some awesome places that I have never been to before. Plus even though we have not had much rain if you care to look there are still wildflowers to be found. #exploring #outbackwesternaustralia #wildflowers @ Melangata Station Stay

17.01.2022 Anyone travelling about in our region in WA maybe come and park up for a while. It might get interesting.

16.01.2022 For those that are already on the road and feeling a bit homeless. Maybe Melangata Station might fit the bill to call home for a while while the chaos is upon us

16.01.2022 That was a bit of excitement for the morning. Stopping for a refuel on the way to the NT WA border. Next stop Newman. With a head wind it's going to be a big day. #goodluck #flysafe #helicopter #plane #cessna #essentialworkers

16.01.2022 "I didn't know" is all I got from the woman whom I informed that the beautiful golden baby in this picture that they allowed to follow them KMs away from the ho...mestead on their push bikes had died a horrible death because they failed to even ask if it was ok for her to go with them. Apparently they didn't know of the risks and dangers to pets and working dogs in this whole region as they hadn't bothered to take any notice of the many signs large and small that dot the highways and back roads even the one they rode past. They don't know just how valuable and treasured our working dogs are and that they are treated like children. They didn't know that I am so paranoid about our dogs going more than 200 m away from the homestead that they never do unless they have a muzzle on. They didn't know that we did everything possible to make their area around the homestead safe. They didn't know that she was still a puppy and was just showing great promise as a first class working dog. They don't know just how many hours had already gone into her training. They didn't know just how hard I am on guests when they come here to never take your eyes of your dog and make it wear a muzzle and keep it on a leed. They didn't know that my beautiful golden girl was the light of my life and slept by my bed on the cold nights, never moving or making a sound till I got up. They didn't know that she ran like the wind and was the happiest friendliest little soul around. They didn't know that she had bike races with my grandson in the afternoons while he was here during the Covid lock down. They didn't know that while they allowed her to follow them i was looking and calling for her as it was time for her to have some quiet time. I am equal parts devastated, heartbroken and angry as shit that all they had to do was turn their bikes around and come and ask if it was ok for her to go with them. What I am most upset about is that they didn't even know her name. Her name was Blondie. She was loved by everyone who came here. So please please if you come to my place or any one elses places in the outback. Make sure that you do know and never never assume it is ok to have someone else's dog follow you. It's not hard to ask. Oh and for all the anti wild dog bait people out there. This post is not for you to get on your bandwagon and you can politely fuck off we are sad enough without you piling it on too This post will hopefully mean that in the future more people will know. Even though I am going to bawl like a baby even more could all the people who have been here and have a photo of her please put it in the comments. Run like the wind my golden girl you will be missed for ever.

15.01.2022 If you want to catch up with me I will be doing my usual demos at the 4wheel drive and adventure show from 6th to 8th of November. Come and have a yarn and taste some great food too.

14.01.2022 Hi there my awesome peeps. Just a little shout out so you don't think I am being rude. I can not and more importantly do not want to be at the homestead all the... time. So when there is no one here I have a friendly little answering machine on my telephone that takes messages so I can ring you back when I come in from out yonder. Please please please. Can you leave your name and your number as this is old school technology that does not record your number like a mobile to mobile call. I have had a couple just in the last few days that have said can you call me back on this number. I am sorry to say I can't and it bothers me to think that you might miss out on seeing our amazing place just because I couldn't call you back. Peace, love and a pinch of Melangata magic to you all. Jo. See more

14.01.2022 The Melangata pool is an awesome 400m plus stretch of water just south of our homestead that has attracted humans for hundreds of years. Today it was our turn to enjoy it. #stayhome #outbacklife #stationlife

11.01.2022 I am always just a little bit chuffed when I successfully grow some food. #melangatastationstay veggie garden has its first #broccoli and as I have discovered. Broccoli leaves are amazing cooked with a little butter salt and pepper. My new #favourite #green

09.01.2022 We have seen an increase in snake numbers around the homestead in the last couple of weeks. This one Ken managed to catch and this morning it was released. Most of our snake encounters are in early summer and late autumn when they are just coming out of hibernation or just preparing to head off for the big sleep. We see our snakes at night time as during the day in summer the ground temperature is just too hot for them to be slithering around on. ... So note to self if you are out camping at this time of the year( in a normal year) to be hyper vigilant and never walk around at night time without shoes on or some sort of head lamp or torch. Or if you are home, like me, turn every bloody light on in the house so you can see them and have a chance of catching them with appropriate snake handling gear then relocate a minimum of 2 km away from your house. Or call a trained snake handler to come and relocate them for you. You just need to make sure some one keeps their eyes on it all the time as they can disappear real quick. #snakes #snakesofinstagram #mulgasnake #wildlifeonmelangatastation #outbackwesternaustralia #stationlife

09.01.2022 To say these sweet, soft, crunchy, sugary donuts that I made at the @4wdadventureshows in Perth were a hit is an understatement. Look out for the recipe in @western4wdrivermagazine next edition Absolutely no nutritional value whatsoever but who cares. #donuts #instagood #instayum #foodofmelangatastation

08.01.2022 Just another awesome camp oven dinner at Tom's lookout on Melangata Station last night.

08.01.2022 Happy Equinox everyone. One bonus me not having to go away for work this weekend is I get to see the Devine light. This happens each year around the 20th of March and the 20th of September. The good old Monsignor had some amazing design features in this house. #outbackwesternaustralia #outback #architecture #monsignorjohnhawes #history #historic @ Melangata Station Stay

04.01.2022 Welcome home to me. Been away for a month clearing and cleaning out my dad's place and now I guess I am back at it again . Not easy for someone who is not a natural born cleaner. #dust #storm #outback #life #melangatastation #norain

04.01.2022 Back in action after a little break. Guests at the homestead and how lucky are they. Mini crayfish pies with salt bush garnish. #outbackwesternaustralia #outbackcooking #homesteadcooking

04.01.2022 As you know I am the first to admit to just how lucky I am and in this time of turmoil and change it's nice to be able to carry on our life almost the same as a...lways. We are still fencing, renovating, gardening ( the veggie patch has seen some attention these last days) and also being able to enjoy nature and the beautiful autumn weather we have been blessed with. There are unfortunately some who are struggling with being alone and away from family which I must be mindful of when I make posts about our life on the station. For us very little has changed, for now, but for others there has been monumental upheaval and uncertainty in their lives that make it hard to see we will all be ok. Pease be kind to yourselves, get some sunshine, fresh air and allow mother nature back into your hearts and never let her go. We will be here when it's time to visit again and with lots more Melangata Magic to hand around. All our love Jo and Ken. See more

03.01.2022 More #happy guests. The #melangatamagic was working overtime last night. #magic #stationlife #outbackwesternaustralia #lovewhereilive

01.01.2022 Attention all people travelling in Western Australia ( lucky buggers) How would you like a few experiences like this? If you become our campground hosts then y...ou will be included in tours of the station as well as the occasional meal at the homestead. Melangata Station Stay is looking for a campground host/ hosts. Single or couple male or female makes no difference to us. We need you to be self contained with own accommodation. We can provide shower and toilet facilities and some power free of charge and in return we ask that ; Ideally we would like you to be able to commit for a couple of weeks. Your responsibility will be for a bit of cleaning of ablutions in the campgrounds and Shearer's quarters, greeting new arrivals, lighting the communal campfire. The rest of the day is yours to do with as you wish. This is voluntary and is not a paid position We are situated 70km north west of Yalgoo. 110 km West of Mount Magnet and 120km south west of Cue in Outback western Australia. The whole area is steeped in many layers of history and it's possible to do day trips to many things of interest in the area. Jo.
