18.01.2022 If you've passed your 50th birthday, you have not passed your use-by date. You can get a job, a good job, a job of your choosing, if you set about the job search the right way. In this book, I explain step-by-step how to do it. And it's all based on the successes enjoyed by my clients, many well over 50, over the past few years. Try it - and get a good job!

15.01.2022 So, you are over 50 and you’re looking for a job. Perhaps your job search isn’t as easy as you would like it to be and you are beginning to think that no one wants you because you’re too old. Well, think again. You can, and almost certainly will, get a good job within a reasonably short period of time if you follow the strategies described in this book. By ‘good job’ I mean one that will give you job satisfaction one that matches your interests, your values and personality; and one that is a job of your choosing. It may not be the same as your last job. That sort of job may no longer be available due to changes in technology or economic circumstances. But it will be a job that will give you fulfilment and, as a result, a feeling of success. How to Get a Good Job Over 50, chapter 1.

11.01.2022 How to make your resume a winner! Your résumé is a brochure. It is a marketing document and the first requirement for a successful marketing document is that you understand your ‘customer’, in this case your prospective employer. What are the employer’s needs? How are you the best person to meet those needs? To answer these questions properly involves thorough research. Small businesses invest a lot of time and effort into market research and you, as a job seeker, can’t affor...d to skimp in this area. Jeremy Ellens, writing in Entrepreneur, writes that ‘the best way for your business to stand out is by building emotional connections with your audience’. You need to show that not only do you meet the employer’s needs but that you will be a motivated team member as well. You want the employer to want to have you in their team. 11.01.2022 A lot of people advise against writing hybrid resumes. I don't agree. Hybrid resumes can put you ahead of the competition and win you an interview simply because it better allows you to convince the employers of the capabilities that you would bring to the job. 09.01.2022 If you want to be successful in finding a good job or anything else, you need to have a positive can-do attitude. This little article shows you how to get started.

05.01.2022 Apologies for having to invite you once again to like my new Facebook page. I'm definitely not a 'digital native' and somehow I managed to create a duplicate page. That has now been closed and this one is the real mccoy.

04.01.2022 The Job Seeker’s Pitch: How to grab an employer’s interest in 30 seconds or less. This article was written by Canadian employment counsellor and ardent blogger, Kelly Mitchell. Kelly makes a lot of sense and this is the second of his articles that I have reproduced with his permission. Your pitch is that brief introduction you give to someone when time is of the essence but you want to communicate nonetheless who you are and what you're after. Some call this an elevator pitch...; bringing to mind the 30 or so seconds you have someone to yourself who you wish to introduce yourself to. And it is essential for job seekers to grab the interest not only of prospective employers but also those who might be able to help you find a job. This is how to create a winning pitch: To read more, go to http://www.jobwinners.com.au//the-job-seeker---s-pitch--ho

03.01.2022 The reasons why many job seekers don’t get interviews A new (US) study shows what hiring managers really want, and it clearly demonstrates why so many job seekers fail to get interviews. In an article published in LinkedIn Pulse this week, Catriona Herron Watt of CV Saviour Résumés quoted the study explaining what job seekers need to do to increase their chances of getting to interview. And, as she writes, there are no surprises in what they’ve found. It’s what I have been telling my clients for years. A little over half (53%) the employers surveyed said that most résumés don’t provide enough information for them to be able to accurately decide whether or not an applicant would be a good fit for the position.
