25.01.2022 Finishing off the last of the hand medals to show gratitude to our health professionals. Amazingly these little hands seem to somehow take on their own personality. They ‘just’ need cleaning up and ribbons. ... Grateful that I will be helped by @Handsewn.by.Hannah to sew the ribbons

24.01.2022 On the workbench this week - with Christmas fast approaching, I’ve been working on a custom order for a pair of silver earrings. These are almost finished, just need to add a little colour.

23.01.2022 Just for fun - studio selfie or should I say the less glamorous side of being a Metalsmith!

22.01.2022 Across the globe we’re continuing to make hand medals for our health care workers. This is my little contribution to the @handmedalproject so far. It might sound strange to say, but although they’re all the same, as handmade pieces each seems to have its own unique personality. ... There’s still a few more weeks left to make hands. If you are or know a jeweller, there’s still time to sign up and make a hand or two. Every little helps. . . . #thankyou #gratitude #handmedalproject

22.01.2022 Hand Medals lined up and ready to go. A little way to show gratitude to our health professionals. This is part of an international initiative - @handmedalproject ... Do have a look at their Instagram page if you’d like to find out more about this project. . . . #handmedalproject #gratitude #dowhatyoucanwithwhatyouhave

19.01.2022 Recycling at its best - I’ve been asked to melt down this unloved huge silver ring and make it into something else. Now much as I love making things, there’s something very satisfying about taking a flame to a piece of unwanted jewellery and watching it melt This ring is no more. It’s been turned into a long thick piece of sterling silver all ready for its new life. ... Remember, if you have any unloved old gold or silver jewellery don’t leave it gathering dust in a drawer. Have it melted down and made into something special. . . . #recycle #reusereducerecycle #repurposed

16.01.2022 Lockdown project update - the main gold heart is now soldered and the start of the bail is in place. After many attempts the claws on the little basket setting are also in place. This project continues to challenge me, which is why I’m taking it so slowly. Just a little at a time. ... There are still far too many difficult steps to do, but with time and a lot of patience I will get there. Watch this space ...

13.01.2022 Lockdown project update - it’s finished!! The heat shaped blue topaz is at last set Having spent so long stressing about this project, I’m a little bit in shock that it’s finally complete. ... This has stretched my skills to their limit, but in doing so I’ve learnt a lot along the way. As I always say, believing you can really does help, along with taking your time (in this case going super slowly!). All worth it in the end #lockdownproject #hearts #believeyoucan

12.01.2022 On the bench this week - I’m spending some time refining my stone setting skills. This tiny silver tube is the setting for a faceted gemstone. Before the stone can be set, a seat has to be carved into the inside of the tube. ... If you look closely you can just about see the seat As with a lot of things there’s a number of ways of doing this. This week I’m using a graver tool to manually carve away the silver. Amazing what you can do with time, practice, patience and a good pair of glasses . . . #handmadeinaustralia #practicemakesprogress #bespokejewellery

Just a thought #trysomethingnew #giveitago #nothingventured

09.01.2022 Create something every day - how good would that be! OK so maybe that’s a little ambitious With everything else that goes on it’s not as easy as it sounds. But maybe setting aside a little bit of time even once a week to make something might be a good place to start?... Making things and doing something creative is so good for us. It really does help to give you a break. I’d love to know if it works for you

04.01.2022 So in theory you design first, then make the piece. But as I started to make this ring I’m thinking of changing the design just a little. It will be sterling silver set with 5 small aquamarines. ... These are the options. Which one do you like best? . . . #silverrings #bespokejewellery #australianmade #dowhatyoulove

01.01.2022 Did you know that as an artisan jeweller I do my best not to waste silver. Where at all possible, I sweep up every little ‘scrap’ and filing (oh and the odd mistake too ). Then when I have gathered enough I either send it off for refining or melt it down and use it to make new pieces of jewellery. ... . . . #reusereducerecycle #recycledmaterials #recycledjewellery #recycledfashion #ethicallymade See more
