22.01.2022 Flashback Thursday Four years ago this week, some amazing things happened at the World Surf Lifesaving Championships in the Netherlands. Pretty much everything we planned for came off. @_melcampbell won her first 2km World Title at the age of 40, @chloegentle with blood streaming from her nose won the Youth 2km World Title, and @thusbus, at the peak of his sprinting career, gave our relay team the best lead outs in race to be part of the World Title winning beach relay team. ... Several of the masters also won World Titles and @_najemm, despite being underdone and having a cracker of a race against a junior Olympian from Great Britain, unfortunately just finished 2nd. It was one of his best ever races in a battle royale from the moment the gun went off. With all the events being cancelled over the last 6 months and us meant to be in France right now competing at the 2020 World Surf Lifesaving Titles which has now been postponed, we thought this was our favourite trip of all time and deservedly needed to be remembered. And that’s why this is chosen as your Flashback Thursday. #Rescue2016
21.01.2022 Philosophy Time Firstly happy birthday to my late, great mate, and Luca’s God Father - Ken Coles. Ken was taken way before his time, but left a great mark with the short time he had. One of my favourite team mates to play sport with, the only sensible friend who’s voice of reason i listen to and just a great bloke as @debc999 can attest to. I use Ken as an example, that life is short, and can be taken with little warning, so use your time well. For my athletes and friends it... reminds me to head your life in the direction you want, doing the things you’re passionate about, with the people you’re passionate about. Here ends the lesson. Happy birthday Kenneth RIP
20.01.2022 THE RACE THAT STOPS THE NATION. Well, the real race that stops the nation is the NSW SLS Super Series 2km and 2x1km relay. Coming to you live from Bulli this weekend, the top 6 male and female 2km runners in the state will battle it out for bragging rights and some great competition. A great race in round 1, round 2 coming up. How will the Jock Athletic crew fair? These are the odds:... Come on @slsnsw & @slsaustralia, how about a repost!
19.01.2022 Very sad news to hear that one of Australia’s great cricketers Dean Jones died over in India. We know that he was given the best possible chance of survival because of one very brave teammate. @brettlee_58 was to him in seconds and provided CPR and brought back to life twice, and Dean left in the ambulance alive. Really want to point out a couple things: 1. It shows one great courage under fire from Brett as we know he’s capable of, and 2. Fantastic knowledge in CPR and how ...to save someone’s life. We know that he will perform exceptionally well under pressure, but when someone’s life is on the line and he has good knowledge of CPR, we are very, very proud of him. Dean Jones was a great innovator and made a massive contribution to the game of cricket for Australia. Sad to see Dean go way before his time but great to know that he was in the best possible hands when it happened. Well done Binga - proud of you as always. Binga in happier times
19.01.2022 9th Day of Christmas shot - New Year’s Day 2020 We do a hard core session on New Years Day. Strange for some to conceptualize, but thats how we roll. This os also a happy birthday to @_najemm & the front shot shows how great he is with supporting our juniors, and also volunteering his time as a lifesaver. This was a great start to the year with a few of our best. Who’s coming this New Years Day? #12daysofchristmas
18.01.2022 JA STAFF XMAS PARTY It’s a very difficult thing to organise for all us coaches to be at the same place at the same time - a great but rare occasion. This team makes our lives easier, say no more. Hope you all had a great night.
18.01.2022 The second day of Christmas - we couldn’t separate these great shots. The first one’s of our twins who are joined at the hip. Great shot, but these photos symbolise the array of athletes we have - track runners, beach runners, elite hockey players, marathoners and cricketers. What it does is bring out the best in all our athletes, each seeing how hard other sports train and pushing each other to their maximum limits. ... What we love is the great team atmosphere we have across multiple sports and these two shots epitomise that.
18.01.2022 Attention all serious cricketers, With the season about to break up during the Christmas/New Year period for 2-3 weeks, it’s not a time to have a break from training. If you want to come back better than everyone else or even in good shape for cricket, you need to use your time wisely. Physically, I am suggesting 2 gym sessions, 2 bowling and throwing sessions and a minimum of 1 cricket specific speed and 1 hard cardiovascular endurance session per week. Obviously there’s yo...ur skills session in combination to this, but if you’d like to. Keep progressing, this is the minimum I’d recommend. And of course, you want to look after your mobility and flexibility during this time as well. For Jock Athletic and Bowlfit cricketers, we have our sessions on as normal. For those who can’t make them, we have the Bowlfit App that covers all your cricket conditioning needs.
16.01.2022 Very solid performances this weekend from the boys at @stgeorge.dcc, home of the great Don Bradman. We had @bnewp score a ton on return to cricket after being out injured. But the biggest winner of all, coming in when St George First Grade were 6 for 50 chasing 355 to win and club-stalwart @walsh_92 bludgeoned 208 runs at faster than a runner ball combining with @joseph_graham3 for a massive partnership to bring them victory. Walshy even featured in the huge papers The Daily Telegraph and The Australian and was being compared to Don Bradman and Brett Lee for his hitting power. You could go through your whole cricket career and never have a day like this. Awesome effort Walshy!

14.01.2022 Our first SLS webinar was a success Great to see so many coaches join in. We covered many topics ranging from periodisation to analysing the needs of athletes. Great night!
14.01.2022 What a great weekend! Great to hear that some of our very quick soccer stars won their grand finals today. Congrats to Tahli who also won her team’s ‘Golden Boot’ award! We also had the long awaited first round of the cricket season. Awesome efforts everyone! Keep it up.
13.01.2022 There is no silver bullet This exercise is the Medball slam. It’s a great upper body plyometric exercise for any sport that requires an overhead pull. However, it’s not critical, it’s not the magic bullet, it won’t make you the best fast-bowler, cross country skier or swimmer on its own. It’s a tiny piece of your overall plan, which may help give you some improvements in explosive power. But it only works on the back of having a very good strength foundation, in some instanc...es an increase in size, and also having a great power foundation. And don’t forget all the specifics of your key sport. Whilst this exercise looks great and our athletes love doing it, it’s only a small part. Don’t get carried away with the most fancy or different exercise. There’s only one thing or supplement that is the magic bullet. It’s called HBW and I give my athletes a bucketload of it every week. It’s definitely not for everyone - many athletes can’t handle it. It’s called wait for it hard bloody work. In the right doses, in the right manner, peaking at the right time, this is the only magic bullet I’ve ever found. Keep working hard year upon year upon year and you may just make it!
11.01.2022 MUTHA RUNNER TURNS 1! It’s crazy to think it’s been an entire year since our very own @_melcampbell held her first official @mutha.runner session, and what a year it has been! Congrats Mel! The group has transformed from a few ladies running once a week to a positive community of muthas who train three mornings a week!... Last Thursday, the amazing group of muthas celebrated by completing an ‘amazing race’ through Cronulla - it took them out to the sand dunes, down to North Cronulla and through the mall. Check out some of the challenges in the photos above! Interested in getting involved? Check out @mutha.runner for more info. You’ll love it! All welcome!
11.01.2022 Great to see ex #olympian Peter Hadfield still has it, well into his 60’s training for Beach Sprinting with his daughter @chadfield1 Fun afternoon of beach training, junior weights & senior gym. #mysurflife #cricket #athletics
09.01.2022 @claudinetalbott is an exceptional athlete who specialises in cross country skiing and the biathlon. She has found great success in her sport over the past few years and continues to get better and better. She’s a real asset to the squad and we’re so glad she joined us a little over a year ago. Keep up the great work Claudine - the future’s looking bright! Here’s a bit about her. ATHLETE PROFILE: Claudine Talbot Claudine started training with Jock Athletic about a year ago t...o improve her endurance and get in some proper strength training. She also said I just needed a gang to train with and keep me motivated, plus JA had a cool vibe. Jock had coached her brother at Scots a few times so came down to test out the group. Claudine’s best achievement has been placing 2nd in the U16 Classic Sprint at the Australian Championships for Cross Country Skiing, along with qualifying for three state teams in just two years. Although she hasn’t had any races since starting with the JA squad, she says that although there’s been no shiny medals to prove the progress, I have definitely gotten fitter and a lot stronger on the snow since training with Jock. Her typical training week consists of: * Mon: easy run + gym * Tues: easy cycling, balance drills + either run, swim or roller skis * Wed: interval runs + gym * Thu: sleep! * Fri: sand tempos + speed endurance * Sat: Sandhills + shoot training * Sun: roller ski and/or hike Claudine has m just been awarded five month scholarship to an American school to focus on her skiing career and leaves in 47 days! When she returns, she hopes to qualify for the Junior National Cross Country Ski Team during the Australian winter season. After that, I want to compete overseas and possibly go to college in America. Although she has put in all the hard work herself, the humble Claudine said that I couldn’t have gotten the scholarship without the help of the entire Jock community!
09.01.2022 Congratulations to @srwatson33 on a magnificent cricket career. It was great to be apart of it early on. I was there to see his face when the great @errolalcottphysio ruled him out of contention for the 2003 World Cup, but to come back and win two World Cups in 2007 and 2015, as well as multiple IPLs and trophies for Australia, is quite an achievement. Even at the ripe old age of the high 30s, he was good enough to receive man of the match in IPL finals and win games under i...mmense pressure. He was always a visionary from a young age and a massive talent. Even when his body was not coping with his ability, he changes from a tearaway quick bowler to a very skilful swing and seam bowler. Due to an injury-plagued career he couldn’t chase balls hard in the field, so he turned himself into a magnificent slip fields man for Australia. That, on top of his devastating batting and magnificent feats, made him one of our greatest all-rounders. Great to see such a brilliant career - have enjoyed watching it the whole way Watto. Well done, I’m sure you’ll be successful in whatever you do.
09.01.2022 Holiday Monday 1. Grass Session 2. Sand Session 3. Swim in Paradise 4. Gym Session... 5. Coffee @grindespresso 6. How good Happy birthday to Dragon @bnewp
08.01.2022 This team was meant to be running for #worldchampionships today in #italy. Instead they were volunteer Surf Lifesavers and training to save lives. No worries only 2 years to wait, what a great day anyway.... #squad #mysurflife #rescue22 Please note team shots were taken out of Covid.
08.01.2022 TOUR DE FRANCE TRIBUTE I’ve always admired the cyclists in the Tour de France. They do 21 days of cycling and cover over 3000km. Everyday is a hard effort of well over 100km and sometimes up to 200km. They climb mountains, sprint through valleys and at on the final day on the Champs-Élysées, they ride over 60km an hour to the finish. These are impressive athletes.... In this year’s version, which is one of the best I’ve ever seen, Australian @richie_porte at aged 35 climbed his way up onto the podium for 3rd of the whole tour. Youngster @calebewan also won two sprint stages. Fantastic effort from both these guys, really impressed by both of them. Over a week ago when Richie was sitting 9th and Pogacar, who won, was sitting in 2nd - I said to our resident cyclist @rochellegilmore, who also comments on the great event, that I thought Richie would get into 3rd and Pogacar would win. No one believed me, but I tell you this - they both did it. So impressed by the riders, so impressed by the winners. Hats off to you all.
07.01.2022 Happy 20th birthday to the one and only @_caitlinhammond Caitlin’s been with JA for about 10 years. Throughout this time she’s raced, won medals, been injured, come back better and stronger, coached, held JA HQ together, and the list goes on. There’s not much she can’t do. Thanks for everything you do Caitlin! Hope you had the best day today. ... From the whole squad x

07.01.2022 Shot of the weekend. Son and mother running together. Elite runner @kai.hammondd with mum Marsha Brady, otherwise known as @hammond_katrina. That’s the great thing about our club - it doesn’t matter what age or ability, we can all train together. We all push each other along and have great fun. Kai was meant to be in Italy this weekend racing for the World SLS Title. Instead, he was running with his mum. Great Saturday morning session everyone, hope you’re all having a good weekend!
06.01.2022 The fifth day of Christmas. Friday Flats - my favourite session at our annual altitude camp. This session is extremely tough both mentally and physically, but feels great when it’s over. Always followed by a squad pic, as seen above, and then an ice bath. Such great times. * Photo taken pre-COVID *
05.01.2022 This week’s @crustcronulla Pyramid Podcast only had two members on it - who could they be?
04.01.2022 So great to see our young soccer stars Violet, Georgia and Layla win the competition with their Sutherland rep side this year. The girls have worked really hard through a very strange season and definitely deserve their win. Off the back of this, it’s unbelievable that 14 year old Violet has been selected into the Sutherland Women’s Premier League team for next season and there’s more news on the other two to come soon. Keep up the great work ladies, you never know where this will take you.
04.01.2022 The fourth day of Christmas. This photo was taken at State SLS all the way back in February the week before COVID restrictions hit. It was one of our best ever state SLS carnivals and we didn’t know at the time that it would be our last carnival together for nine months. We certainly made the most of it and it’s a great memory. It’s such an awesome shot as it shows our team’s spirit and support for each other, as well as the excitement we have for everyone’s success. ... Bring on the 2021 season

01.01.2022 Happy birthday to our co-founder @orcastar25 I met Watto at university in the 80’s, he was old then and now much older. He convinced me to work with him with the swimmers at Sutherland Pool, to work with the Cronulla Sharks, then i convinced him to leave professional footy and come into business with me. Oh yes and i also convinced him to come to The Indian Cricket League. The front photo is our Board of Directors shot. ... For the past many years he’s been in England, and for the past 5 of those he’s been coming home soon. Hope you’re having a great day mate. #mysurflife
