25.01.2022 NEW RECIPE: This recipe shows you how to get the perfect poached eggs at home in less than 5 minutes. https://www.jockeynutrition.com/blog/poached-eggs-on-toast

25.01.2022 As jockeys, you weigh in several times a week and as pre apprentices there is an immense amount of pressure from yourself to industry professionals to drop weight in order to commence your apprenticeship. This can negatively impact your mental health that can spiral negative impacts to your physical health and quality of life. We need to create a change within the industry where jockeys are only weighed or asked about weight when absolutely necessary. Not randomly by t...ruck drivers, stable hands, race horse trainers, stewards and fellow jockeys commenting on their food, weight or visual appearance. Ask yourself before you open your mouth; should I really be commenting on that jockeys weight, how is me commenting or asking going to improve the situation, could it potentially trigger that individual to vomit, take laxatives or stop eating that could be detrimental to their physical and mental wellbeing. Understand that as a steward, race horse trainer, jockey coach or fellow jockey - your position of power and weight in words may be so strong, you don’t realise, for a fellow individual that they may take it literally, and then act on it. If we stop commenting on another jockeys weight and nutrition, could it save their life and improve their quality of life...have you ever thought about this. Wouldn’t it be more productive to ask that individual, R U OK? #weightofwords #theblackdog #butterflyfoundation #eatingdisorderawareness #ruok @onedaydreampr

11.01.2022 GLYCEMIC INDEX OR GI Understanding carbohydrates and their digestion, absorption and metabolism rates in relation to your blood sugar levels can help jockeys to manipulate their diet around training, races and rest days. The Glycemic Index (GI) is a relative ranking of carbohydrate in foods according to how they affect blood glucose levels. The index ranks food and drinks between 0-100. ... Carbohydrates with a LOW GI value (55 or less) are more slowly digested, absorbed and metabolised and cause a lower and slower rise in blood glucose and, therefore usually, insulin levels. There are three classifications for GI: Low: 55 or less Mid: 56 69 High: 70+ Overall jockeys should aim to include at least one LOW GI option at main meals to help with: 1. A consistent energy level across the day 2. Feeling of fullness Warranted, if required to ride light and not walking around at correct weight, jockeys can use low fibre (HIGH GI) foods days prior to the races to help reduce the weight in their gut. This however may make you prone to hunger unlike high fibre (low GI food). Long-term jockeys should aim to sit close to their riding weights to prevent the need to waste. #jockeynutrition #jockeyfitness #makingweight #accsdathome #jockeyeducation #athletenutrition

07.01.2022 CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO! This is an interview with one of Centennial Park Veterinary Practice's vets, Dr Luke Campbell. For those following Jockey Nutrition, I thought you may wish to know what vets do in relation to race horses. They, like myself with jockeys and their nutrition, aim to optimise performance. It is not necessarily just treating injuries or in my case, just helping jockeys to meet weight but how a jockey meets weight to reach their potential.

03.01.2022 CARBOHYDRATES Carbohydrates are your body and brains main energy fuel source, so its important to not eliminate them. Ultimately, inadequate intake can negatively impact your performance and recovery. WHERE ARE CARBS FOUND?For many people, they only identify potato, rice, pasta and bread as carbohydrate sources when in fact carbohydrates come from fruit, fruit juice, starchy vegetables, whole grains & cereals, milk and yoghurt. Foods with added sugar are another source... and we should try to limit these to special occasions or 1-2 times per week. #jockeynutrition #jockeyfitness #jockeyfit

Included are some tips on which types of carbohydrates to choose specifically when a jockey has wasted. Long-term, jockeys should aim to maintain their weight close to correct weight to avoid wasting. Including at least one low GI carbohydrate at main meals will help to keep you fuller for longer, your energy levels consistent and help with maintaining weight and reducing the risk of weight increases. #jockeynutrition #jockeyfitness #jockeyfit #makingweight
