25.01.2022 Beautiful day at Lavandula in Hepburn to be making lavender wands with families to celebrate their annual Lavender Harvest Festival. I hope to see you...
25.01.2022 The enormity of our global health and financial crisis has hit and smaller yet incredibly important impacts are starting to reach their way into my consciousness. Many exhibitions and cultural experiences have had to close their doors and cancel due to Co19. Usually I would not have time to engage with much of the information that hits my email inbox but today I watched this lovely 10 minutes video about an exhibition that opened at Bendigo Art Gallery on March 20. I hope you have the time... Bessie Davidson & Sally Smart - Two artists and the Parisian avant-garde. http://jodiegoldring.com.au//goodwill-sent-to-friends-and/
24.01.2022 In late 2018 I was Artist in Residence along the Biolink Walking Trial in Glenlyon. I spent time with locals weaving natural materials along the trail and objects made were left for walkers to enjoy. I recently went back to see how the work has weathered and was pleased to see that most of it is gone as it has disintegrated and decayed back into the natural environment.... http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2021//14/nature-did-devour-art/
24.01.2022 During the next few months we will have a bit of spare time on our hands! I am keen to harness idle hands and yarn bomb my local town in Spring. Can you help by knitting a granny square (or two)? See flier for details... http://jodiegoldring.com.au//social-distancing-in-mollong/
23.01.2022 To all shy and hesitant weavers out there I encourage you to ask for natural material when you see it! When I noticed one of my hardenbergia (happy wanderer) suppliers had their fence damaged I was quick to text her about it! Some one drove into her fence and it was so badly damaged that over half had to be removed and rebuilt. [ 100 more words ] http://jodiegoldring.com.au//06/17/sourcing-natural-mater/

21.01.2022 Last week I went to Tasmania to walk on Maria Island with my sister, which was a very memorable experience. There were a couple of kids on our guided walk who helped me collect and fill a random weave nest with soft things such as moss, lichen and feathers. I carefully wove the nest onto a branch and left it displayed on the mantlepiece at Bernacchi House in Darlington for other walkers to enjoy. 20.01.2022 Yesterday I spent a blissful morning building a tomato trellis in Andrea's vegetable patch. I donated the building of a garden structure out of wild willow to the local Mollongghip Hall fundraising auction. It only took a couple of hours to make, on a surprisingly humid and hot morning. I was entertained by music that floated over from the house next door, where the dance teacher was taking a lesson. http://jodiegoldring.com.au//11/22/making-a-tomato-trellis/
20.01.2022 What a year it has been! I facilitated my first basketry workshop since February on Sunday Nov 15. It was perfect, as it was a private workshop in a garden (Covid Safe) with 2 lovely ladies. At times I felt like my words and thoughts were not flowing as smoothly as I would have liked. I mentioned this and it seems this may be a side effect of our recent Lockdown. It will take a while to get over, but we made some small tentative steps to reconnect in person... http://jodiegoldring.com.au//get-back-on-the-bike-and-ride/
19.01.2022 Thank you to Jacqueline Millner and Caroline Phillips for organising such a wonderful symposium last week at Melbourne University. I committed to spending 3 full days there and was inspired and challenged by ideas and artworks presented during the week. I facilitated a workshop called Collaborative Nourishment when participants made bundles of grass and added them to a sculptural form I had twined and installed on the wall of the George Paton Gallery. I look forward to participating next year as Latrobe University's Care Project evolves...Please see the link for more information...Contemporary Art and Feminism. http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2019/11/06/the-care-symposium/
18.01.2022 Thanks to the Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens for inviting me back to their historic cottage last Saturday February 27. The weather was perfect for working outdoors, which ensured appropriate social distancing. I bought a range of plant material for participants to weave into their melon baskets, that I had collected during the summer months. The colours were gorgeous and "harvest" was the term used by Helen to describe the rainbow of plant fibre available to her.... http://jodiegoldring.com.au//melon-basketry-at-the-plant-/
18.01.2022 Nothing like Spring at Lavandula....I was there on Sunday for their La Primavera Festival when I helped families make willow shapes. I will be back there again on January 12 for the Harvest Festival to help families make lavender wands... http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2019//29/blissful-at-lavandula/
17.01.2022 I am off to Wangaratta on Friday April 23 to help a group of weavers create a community artwork for Across the Arts. The community artwork is a pair of platypuses that will be woven the week leading up to and then displayed during the Arts Festival. On Saturday May 1 & Sunday May 2 I am facilitating all days workshops, helping participants weave smaller works (birds and platypuses) that they can take home. I also have fibre artworks in the exhibition called Elemental that is associated with the festival, held at Bainz Gallery in Wangaratta until May 2. http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2021/04/03/across-the-arts/
16.01.2022 On Sunday I was at the Collingwood Children's Farm to help celebrate their 40th Birthday! I spent time fence weaving with families to depict 4 chooks on one of their cyclone fences...It was a bit ambitious as we started at 10am and hustled to finish by 6pm. What I most enjoyed was really young kids of 3 and 4 getting into it!! http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2019/11/06/fence-weaving-at-ccf/
16.01.2022 I went to Melbourne for the first time in nearly a year, to run a small bee skep workshop for Graham, Nerina and James on Thursday 7th and Friday 8th of January. We spent two enjoyable days making and chatting under the large oak tree at the Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre. James bought his bees skeps along to show, that he purchased when he studied beekeeping in London a few years ago.... http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2021/01/09/making-bee-skeps-2/
16.01.2022 I will be at Lot 19 in Castlemaine on Sat 12 and Sun 13 Dec from 11am-2pm each day. I will be helping visitors make small artworks that they can contribute to my latest collaborative artwork for this wonderful project which has been evolving over the last 18 months. I hope to see you during the weekend so we can have a chat and you can learn how to make small artworks using 3 different techniques. Please see the flyer for details... http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2020/12/01/the-care-project/
14.01.2022 Thanks to all the participants for such a lovely day at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre last Saturday. It was the first workshop back at the centre since March 2020. Tables were spread out in the spacious hall, but we came together at the end of the day for a quick photo! I wore a mask (to be Covid safe) as I was moving around to help everyone make their basket throughout the day. Sanitised fingers crossed Kim and her team can keep the Centre open for more workshops next term. http://jodiegoldring.com.au//19/melon-basketry-in-creswick/
14.01.2022 Please visit this lovely online exhibition through Craft Victoria. My contribution to the show is text and images of my bradawl, which is a beloved tool I use frequently in my sculptural basketry. The Meaning of Things http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2020//24/the-meaning-of-things/
14.01.2022 Last Saturday I spent the day at the Plant Craft Cottage in the Royal Botanic Gardens. I supported 10 ladies to create melon baskets on an unusually wet, hot and humid day in Melbourne. It is always a pleasure to spend time in this lovely setting, with people who value craft knowledge and are keen to build on their craft skills. http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2020//18/melon-basket-workshop/
14.01.2022 I spent yesterday afternoon with Julie Bradby (from Ballarat Botanikids) and a couple of her volunteers. We had a lot fun making nests and wreaths out of a myriad of natural materials. The nests were then attached to the wreaths creating a fresh and unique approach to this age-old craft. Ballarat Botanikids are based in the Settlers Cottage, on the banks of Lake Wendouree and on the doorstep of the Botanical Gardens. http://jodiegoldring.com.au//fun-afternoon-making-nests-a/
13.01.2022 Don't forget, I am in Castlemaine this weekend giving free workshops. Here is a sneak peak of the collaborative art installation so far. Please join me and I will show you how to make a small artwork (or two) that you can take home or to contribute to the installation so that it grows during the exhibition. I hope to see you there...See flier for details... http://jodiegoldring.com.au//12/11/the-care-project-remin/
12.01.2022 Covid19 is taking its toll in Victoria, so I wanted to share something I am pleased about with the hopes of raising even one persons mood! During Spring I am usually helping others make garden structures from wild willow at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre. Since March 2020, 100% of my workshops have been cancelled so I had time to make structures in my own garden. [ 74 more words ] http://jodiegoldring.com.au//garden-structures-in-my-vegg/
12.01.2022 I love the work of Friends of Cornish Hill and am proud to have been able to help young people on the day...
10.01.2022 In January I am busy harvesting natural materials, drying them and storing them for the year ahead... Barley straw from the neighbouring farmers agricultural crop for the bee skep workshop in July... Lots of lovely leaves (bearded iris and aunty Eliza) for melon basket workshops. More leaves (Bearded iris, aunty Eliza & bullrushes) for melon basket workshops... Carefully split flax for twining. A bag of donated fabric strips were sorted into colours and the white ones rusted in a big steamer for stitching and coiling... http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2020/01/24/harvesting-materials/
09.01.2022 Last Sunday 12th January was another great day spent at Lavandula making lavender wands with families. It was beautiful weather which bought a huge crowd of people looking to enjoy the ambience of the Swiss-Italian farm during their annual Lavender Harvest. https://jodiegoldring.com.au//16/lavender-harvest-festiva/
07.01.2022 It has been a yearlong process of making these sculptures I would like to start by thanking Margret, she has been a wonderful client, who trusted me with the direction of the work and was gracious about the time I needed to make it - a year in total!! We met on her property in early January 2019 and she had a handful of words to inspire the work and I took it from there. [ 367 more words ] http://jodiegoldring.com.au//private-commission-in-glenly/
07.01.2022 In August I was booked to teach a Twined Fish workshop for the first time, but due to Co19 restrictions it will be postponed until 2021. During quieter times over the last couple of months I have made samples for next year so that I can offer 3/4 new weaving workshops...As well as the Twined Fish I can add Sculptural Basketry, Willow Birds and Coiling using Arum Lily to my teaching schedule. http://jodiegoldring.com.au/2020/06/13/twined-fish/
04.01.2022 It was great to go to the annual muster held by the Basketmakers of Victoria who inhabit the historic cottage and stable at Wattle Park in Melbourne. The 3 day event was an informal social gathering of members that ended with a shared lunch on Saturday January 4. Members shared their skills during mini workshops held on the first 2 afternoons. 03.01.2022 On Saturday I facilitated another Melon Basket workshop but this time at the Creswick Neighbourhood Centre. I had sourced and prepared a plethora of strappy leaves for the ladies to weave. The ribbed constructions were quickly 'fleshed out' with red hot poker, montbretia, chasmanthe, watsonia, Siberian iris, bearded iris and bullrushes. Such a range in colour and texture that created lovely unique stripes on the baskets. http://jodiegoldring.com.au//03/02/melon-baskets-in-cresw/
