07.01.2022 Are you suffering from so-called ‘text neck’? "Text neck" typically causes chronic, nagging pain in the upper back and neck, severe upper back muscle spasms, as well as shoulder pain and tightness. It is becoming a common description for a range of painful musculoskeletal injuries, and something that is set to grow at a phenomenal rate as a result of our ever increasing use of phones and tablets.... A recent report by Facebook showed that close to 80% of people aged between 18 and 44 have their mobile phones with them almost all the time It’s not just phones and tablets that make us look down. Many of us also look down to read or for every day tasks involved in our work activities. These trigger points are also forming in young people which is definitely a modern phenomena. So what to do about "tech neck"? - reduce our amount of time we look down at phones/tablets - when possible hold our phone at eye level to avoid bending our heads forward. Just like we have learned to do with our computers & laptops - re-training ourselves to take regular breaks & have the correct posture (see picture below) - seek treatment to assist with symptoms and prevention Trigger Points and "text neck"; There is an undeniable connection between trigger points and "text neck". These are all the same trigger point issues that we've been seeing in postural issues for decades. The good news is that treating these trigger points, especially in the young, can have a fast and profound effect on the painful symptoms. If you work your way through your 20's, 30's, and 40's continually looking down at your phone to check your email and social media pages, you will undoubtedly be increasing the risk of developing some nasty trigger points in your postural muscles. Studies have also suggested that "text neck" may even lead to the early onset of arthritis in the neck. Left untreated, these trigger points may increase your risk of longer term and more serious injury further down the road... Source; Jane Ziegler 3 February 2021 Full article, NielAsher.com
05.01.2022 The Greater Brisbane region will transition to eased restrictions at 6pm today, following a weekend lockdown enacted to contain any potential spread of the UK v...ariant of COVID-19. The restrictions are similar to Stage 3 restrictions Queensland saw in July last year and will be in place at least until 1am 22 January. You will be allowed to leave your home for any purpose. The following gathering restrictions are in place to keep you and others safe: You must carry a mask at all times. Masks must be worn in indoor places including shopping centres and supermarkets, gyms, places of worship, libraries, public transport, and taxis and rideshare vehicles. Masks must be worn in workplaces if social distancing isn’t possible and it’s safe to do so. You don’t need to wear a mask in private vehicles, while outdoors at a safe distance from other people or if you’re doing strenuous exercise. Businesses and venues can have one person per 4m indoors and one person per 2m outdoors. Smaller venues up to 200m can have one person per 2m up to a maximum of 50. You must be seated to eat and drink, and no dancing is allowed except at weddings. Gatherings are restricted to 20 people in homes and public spaces. Weddings and funerals can have up to 100 people, and dancing is allowed at weddings without restrictions. Indoor concert venues and theatres can operate at 50% capacity or one person per four square metres, whichever is greater. Outdoor stadiums can operate at 50% capacity with COVID-safe plans. Restrictions on visits to hospitals, aged care, disability accommodation and prisons will remain. Visit here for more information https://www.qld.gov.au//easing-greater-brisbane-restrictio Over the past 72 hours, people in the Greater Brisbane area have followed lockdown and movement advice strongly. It is because of such a strong response from the community that we are able to ease these restrictions, but we aren't out of the woods yet. Thank you all for coming together - as you have before - and playing your part. Let's keep up the amazing work. Remember to always: Practise good hygiene Socially distance Exercise common sense Stay at home when unwell
