16.01.2022 Check out the new video on AikiTV! www.aikitv.online You can almost say Gadi Shorr Sensei is the person who started in Yoshinkan Aikido in Israel. Gadi Shorr Se...nsei first set foot on the home land of Aikido in August 1989 just a few months after he completed his national service in Israel and further his Aikido journey in Japan. Gadi Sensei was training at Yoshinkan Honbu Dojo during the transition time of the famous Senshusei Course in the late 80s to the 90s. Although Gadi Sensei also practices BJJ, boxing and several other types of martial arts, the spirit of martial art (Budo) that Aikido teaches him has always been and always will be the centre of his training. Gadi Sensei believes there are just so much more in Budo that you can't find in sports. Gadi Sensei has published several Aikido based books since 2006 and has done many Aikido journal interviews that are highly recommended by Joe Thambu Sensei for people who are interested in Yoshinkan Aikido or just Budo.

07.01.2022 Clarification... Some of y’all read my post about titles and the word Sifu & thought I meant that I disdained it or was anti-title. I’m not at all anti-title.... Really, re-read that other post carefully. You’ll NEVER catch me referring to Guro Dan Inosanto as Dan or Prof. Roy Harris as Roy or Matsuoka Haruo Sensei as Haruo or any of my late teachers by first name. I don’t even address Pavel Tsatsouline by anything other than Sir normally. What I’m saying is that we shouldn’t rely on those titles to carry weight on, exert authority over other people, or manipulate others. Using titles in addressing others as a show of genuine respect or affection is part of clear communication to me. I have no insecurity about showing the people the respect they deserve because I don’t have a chip on my shoulder about respecting them. If I did, then maybe I should look more closely at what lies at the root of that kind of insecurity & arrogance. As teachers, instructors, or subject matter experts, we should be constantly accountable to the responsibilities our titles bring with them... and that the successful and consistent responsibilities come well before privilege. So if you focus enough on being about it in the best way with every shred of your being, then trust that game will recognize game when it’s undeniable. And, to me, part of that responsibility is showing respect to the older lions that blazed a trail for us cubs to come up through. #diligence #confidence #hardwork #respect #gamerecognizegame #sifu #titles #leadership #authenticity #lineage #tradition #choice #freewill #honor #lookdeeper #culture

04.01.2022 Hi Everyone, after this was released by Yoshin Project. Robert Mustard Sensei broached the idea of him interviewing me. I'd rather he didn't. I'm getting used to and enjoying asking the questions. Mustard Sensei is adamant and won't take No for an answer. So far it's only the usual suspects that have voiced their desire for this. If you want me to put my head in the lion's mouth, I have 2 conditions:... 1. There has to be more people stating they want to see this. 2. Mustard Sensei cannot take questions from Chris Johnston nor Robert Rosa. Chris, cause he always asks the tough ones and Rob, well he just plain nasty. Over to you people. See more

02.01.2022 It’s interesting how many people who have a lot of experience training Functional Martial Arts still have trouble understanding the value in arts they have no... experience in. I feel maybe Joe Rogan or the explosion of MMA has educated people on one hand but has made them ignorant on the other. The closed mindedness I see is impressive considering the access of information we have. A possible reason could be that people are naturally susceptible to immense polarization. This could be learned during experiences in team sports. If your team is under attack defend with half truths. If you are attacking the other team attack with half truths. Few Examples: My Aikido Training: that never works Dave, what a waste of time.. -I’ve already used some of its movements and techniques in live sparring! My Flows: you could never pull that off in training! -I’ve pulled it off many times in training.. Another example I posted a series of flows against multiple opponents. It consisted of a mesh between Aikido and Judo. I had a guy smack talk my Judo but not my Aikido. I’ve been doing Judo since I was 5. Competed from age 7 to 24. Ive won and medals in national Competitions (junior, collegiate and senior nationals). And I had just started Aikido. SMH Positives and negatives of the arts I’ve trained: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Sport Positives -desensitizes to grappling attacks -coordinates the body for basic and advanced grappling -gives strategies to neutralize opponent on the ground -promotes moves ideal for self defense Negatives -promotes moves not ideal for self defense -lacks takedown focus -doesn’t toughen up the practitioner to a high degree -does not prepare student for strikes Self Defense Jiu-Jitsu Positives -strategy for self defense -coordinates body for basic Jiu-Jitsu -desensitizes to strikes and self defense situations -sets the context for self defense Negatives -is very passive (waits for the attack, most I’ve seen) (probably cause of the selling factor) -doesn’t evolve the student to think outside the box -elitist instructors becomes purveyors of ignorance Judo Positives -makes for a super tough student -amazing Break Fall -fast processing speed -great throws -sense of urgency on the ground Negatives -weak technical approach to ground work -lacks self defense strategy -lacks experiences with striking Aikido Positives -amazing flows -amazing footwork -great wrist locks -very good control of space between you and opponent -best break falls ever Negatives -lacks self defense strategy -lacks striking -lacks holistic ground fighting -very passive Muay Thai Positives -amazing damage with all limbs -great clinching and throws -great striking processing speeds -great striking defense -very athletic students Negatives -no ground fighting -very little self defense throttle control -no break falls Wrestling Positives -amazing takedowns -grit -transition -sense of urgency Negatives -no striking -no submission -no self defense strategy Of course this list is incomplete and mileage may vary between instructors and schools. They all have strengths and weakness. For me this is why I keep training in other arts. I’ve added Combatives training, blade training, sword training, karate, firearms, scenario training and everything I do with Special Operations. Why am I doing this? Because there is no truth, there is just experience. I find value in every class I’ve taken, every instructor and every art! If you can’t do that, it’s not the experience, it’s you that’s the problem. I remember after I coached Cain Velasquez to win the UFC Heavy Championship against Brock Lesnar that I felt I was over MMA. This wasn’t because I felt I had made it, it was because I had climbed a mountain, reached the top, then decided to climb another. Cheers
