14.01.2022 From Richard Quinn. Subject: Bruce Malouf (74) Colleagues & Friends... With sadness, I advise you of the death this morning of former Wallaby and SJC Old Boy Bruce Malouf (74). Bruce died peacefully on the NSW North Coast and had been diagnosed with cancer some time ago. Bruce repeated Y12 in 1975, and played in SJC 1st XV Rugby in 1974 and 1975. He was subsequently selected for the Australian Schools Rugby Team in 1975 (with Steve Williams and David Bokeyar), and in 1982 Bruce made his test debut as Wallabies hooker against New Zealand in Christchurch. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Malouf family at this difficult time. Funeral details are not currently known. Sincerely Richard

12.01.2022 For those who may not have seen their emails. Bruce Malouf is in palliative care at home and our thoughts and prayers are with Bruce and his family. 03.01.2022 A tribute to Bruce from James Gray Bruce came running into my Year 9 Dorm on the first night of my first year at SJC in 1971 (I think he was in Br Emery’s dorm) and in his effusive manner declared, We’ve got to get a nickname for you! Next day, straight after the first division meeting with Br Emery, he came running back and enthused, We’ve got it it’s Jimmy Germ!. I think Mick Emery had told the Year 9s to make sure that when they had their daily showers they were to w...ash away all those Jimmy germs. I thought to myself, Well, it could have been worse, and left it at that. In 1972 Bruce was in my 16As. Terry Curley had taken a few of them up to the 2nds but somehow missed Bruce (though he was only in Year 10). He invented a call Red Ruck which was applied when an opposition player lay all over the ball in a ruck both ball and player could be heeled out legitimately in such a situation, as far as I remember. We played Alan Jones’ King’s School U16As on No.1 that year and half way through the game Alan complained to me about Bruce’s over-vigorous play and the ‘red ruck thing’. I think I said something like, Well, them’s the rules! Tell your boys not to lie all over the ball. But King’s ended up winning the game so things finished amicably enough. Then, of course, was his raucous call in a lineout down the weights shed end during one of his 1st XV matches before he threw in the ball. All we want from you guys is effort. E-F-O-T !!! The crowd collapsed in stitches, especially the more academic members of the opposition school. I also remember him as an Old Boy coming back to an Assembly in the early ‘80s and telling the boys that the most prized memento of his rugby career was not his Randwick jersey, not his NSW jersey, not his Wallaby jersey, but his Joeys Cerise and Blue jersey it had pride of place in his wardrobe. It made us all feel very good about ourselves. God bless you and look after you, Bruce. You are so much in our memory and prayers right now. Jimmie Germ
