20.01.2022 The Johker Sharkcaster has been signed and locked in under clear coats. Id like to put out a special thank you to the people that made it happen - Peter Houghton, Matt Jones, Director Craig Airey and Head Trainer Mark Noakes. And thanks so much to Shane Flanagan, Paul Gallen, Valentine Homes, Jack Bird, James Maloney, Matt Prior, Sam Tagataese and Kirt Capewell for taking the time to sign it. As a veteran supporter of 47 years, I was beginning to wonder if Id live to see a ...premiership. Then on the 2.10.16 I got to drink my 42 year old bottle of port (given to me on my 18th birthday) with my dearest friends and finally turn off the porch light! On behalf of myself, And Im sure all Shark supporters, we thank you all. Its an awesome feeling and youve done us proud. I will cherish this guitar till the day I die, and have already been approached by my two fanatical Shark supporting sons about who it will be willed to. Who knows, with any luck there will be a back to back edition. P.S. Great win yesterday boys. It takes a 19 point lead to lower my anxiety levels. With a 32 point lead I was actually quite relaxed. "UP UP CRONULLA!!!!!" See more

20.01.2022 The awesome talents of Jaden Houghton and his Johker guitar.

18.01.2022 The first of the two Jesters is finally complete, and the look on the new owners face when he opened the case was gold. (He thought he was inspecting the new case and was unaware that the guitar was completed and inside). The Jesters have been about ten years of planning, in trying to build a comfortable and versatile guitar. Ive built all the classics over the years but was looking for something I could really call a Johker. So I guess I borrowed a bit from all the classics..., and this is what I came up with. Firstly, comfortability. A no brainer, a strat style body with arm and body contours. The neck is Johker shape 21mm at the nut to 23mm at the 16th. Fretboard is New Guinea Rosewood with 24 frets and an all access heel. A 14 degree headstock is a must as Im not a fan of string trees. I couldnt decide on the headstock so a compromise, this one has the classic Johker 3x3 while the second one has a newly designed 6 inline headstock. Now to the engine room. For me this was a tough decision and caused a lot of anxiety. Im a huge fan of the vintage Fender and Gibson pickups, but working on Jem 7s, was always impressed with the clarity of the Dimarzio Evolutions. So thats the way I went and couldnt be happier. With a five way switch, giving humbuckers on 1 and 5, single in the middle, and split humbucker single at 4 and 3 for the Strat flavours. Being hot pickups, they tend to sound harsh through a vintage amp at high volume, so with the aid of a treble bleed circuit I developed a toggle switch with a series of resistors to drop the output by about 30% which I believe to be the sweet spot in a vintage amp, and about the same volume as a Strat or Les Paul. In a hot modern amp, flick the switch down, and it screams at full power. I must say it makes for a very versatile guitar and a great range of tones. I borrowed the control plate from a Tele, as Im not a fan of cavity covers. So there you go folks, meet the first Johker Jester. The second Jester is a 6 inline headstock, finished in a vintage tobacco burst and will be available and for sale in about a month.

11.01.2022 My favorite Gretsch in for a service, The White Falcon. I just had to pull out the Back In Black album. That 17 inch bout just looked so big on Malcolm.

11.01.2022 I guess youd call the Jester project to be my attempt to build the most versatile and comfortable guitar by pinching all the best parts of the classics.
