13.01.2022 Deere 30 and 40 series Load control shaft seals. I often have enquiries on replacing seals, There are key points like what is good enough with the seal which for some years i have used the seals from a 50-55 Series my mate Kev Borg put me on to this some years back as the blue seal in 30 and 40 are not really forgiving on surface damage the later seals help. Looking at the photos the transmission case needs cleaning up so new shims can fit in ensuring very little wishbone mov...ement. There are lots of key points on this job one being cleaning the bottom of the transmission case ensuring no dirt and metal to cut out the new seals. Ideal is new shaft and new case bushes and wishbone bushes 40 series held in with a circlip. Also clean your suction strainer as well while the oil is out. See tha arrows on the shaft is where the seal sits , i feel people look at where the bushes have worn and deem the shaft finished it will go again See more
05.01.2022 Cylinder Head Gasket replace key points. Head gasket issues over the years have been solved in most cases and there are known engines and known machines with issues. Deere 30 40 50 4WD use the engine as a structural member of the tractor which in farming country which bottom out the oscillation tend to have head issues. I have seen engines replaced because they could not stop head gasket failure. ( I have seen 6359T using torque turn bolts and only tensioning them not torque ...turning them) Key points #1 Know the history on the engine as you could be dealing with an issue from before. #2 Be clean and cap all openings and do not fill holes with rag. #3 Just before your about to lift the head off blow around it with compressed air to get rid of the dirt that could fall in. # 4 Do not assume or jump to conclusions. #5 Inspect surface finish and be aware there are surface finish specification a smooth grind is not a good finish rough is better grip. Make sure the head is flat after the grind not contexed. or concaved #6 Use quality gasket while aftermarket gaskets could be cheaper make sure they are good however some Deere gaskets as not very durable #7 Clear all head bolt holes and check the bolts do not bottom before tensioning or torque turn specification is reached. #8 Tap all threads and ensure a new bolt will glide in without any effort. #7 Liner protrusion is key and old spec was 0.001 to 0.004 and I see the 6090 0.004-0.009 this engine is up at 66 Hp per cylinder an 8650 is at 290hp @48 hp per cylinder. and a 9570R @ 95 hp per cylinder. #9 Replacing head bolts are a must for different reasons older engines the non-flanged type will fail at the head of the bolt most times and think of a bolt as elastic band, so they do fatigue. #10 Make sure your tension wrench is correct for the base tension and ensure you oil the thread and the flange of the bolt. #11 head gasket dressing some people love it and I have used it but if your preparation is perfect there should be no need for it unless the gasket durability is an issue. #12 Work smart and use a lifting device too many People strain there back and cause back issues which stay with you for life. 04.01.2022 This hydraulic valve coil is commonly used on 6000 -9000 John Deere tractors. Deeres current solution when it fails is to replace the whole solenoid which is very expensive
