24.01.2022 "Swaggie's Pool, Casper Creek." Watercolour 27x38cms on Bockingford 300GSM paper. Another class demo finished off in my studio. Must say the students all made great jobs of their versions. I'll have to think up something a bit more challenging for them!
22.01.2022 This drawing was done in 60 minutes and playback speed increased by twenty times. I was less interested in the drawing and more in learning my camera and iMovie software. I intend to make free video tips for watercolour painters but that is more demanding necessitating multiple camera angles, long waits for drying times, compressing time, commentary and lots of editing of audio and video. All rather exciting! Watch this space. Check out the paintings on my web site www.johnnewman.com.au
22.01.2022 'The Tack Room, Kenilworth' Watercolour 35 x 52 cms This building used to be the room where the harness, feed and everything else to do with horses was stored. Now the building is a venue that is popular for weddings etc. Yes it has been restored a little but is still evocative of the pioneering days when men were men and women did the washing in a copper* over a wood fire. I heard of a wedding (not at this venue) where the bride wore boots and spurs and the groom wore a petticoat, I think to signify something that may have been better said? *Not a policeman
21.01.2022 This weeks demo for the watercolour class. This is more a coloured drawing than a painting although it is done completely with brushes and paint. For those that were going to ask the pigments used were French Ultramarine, Cadmium Red and Cadmium Yellow. 'Drawing for beginners' starting on 14th at Wallace House, Noosa.
20.01.2022 First watercolour for the year one of our favourite restaurants, this one in Eumundi "The Bohemian Bungalow" approx 25 x 35 cms Looking at starting another beginner's watercolour group as all the remaining students from last year are now competent watercolorists. Very rewarding having such talented people to teach.
17.01.2022 Finished this today.' Mt Ninderry' 350 x 550 mm Watercolour on Arches 300gsm rough, the watercolour working its magic.
15.01.2022 "Wild weather at the Headland, Sunshine Beach" Watercolour, 35 x 52 cms Had some wet and windy weather the week before last, thought it a good opportunity to get some reference material a bit different to the normal perfect aquamarine surf rolling in. A magnificent day, walked over the top of the headland into the Noosa National Park a beautiful place! I arrived back a little wet but managed to keep my camera dry. I haven't painted many seascapes so this was an experiment, very rewarding, and I find that watercolour lends itself naturally to seascapes. Enjoy!
15.01.2022 Finished last week this is one of my watercolour paintings included in the exhibition currently on at the Butter Factory in Cooroy. A group exhibition there is some great work there. 'Tree Amigos' Watercolour on rag paper 54x27cm These beautiful Eucalypts populate the Noosa hinterland where we live. The locals call them River Gums. They are great to draw and paint.
13.01.2022 "Wintery day at the beach" watercolour 28 x 37 cms This watercolour was monday's demonstration and I was suprised at how well all the students did with their versions of it and how different they all are! It's very rewarding to have such great students. I finished it this morning in my studio.
12.01.2022 This week's watercolour class demo touched up later in my studio. I added the larger trees, lightened the scrub behind them and darkened the sky. Watercolour has a reputation of being uncorrectable but often this is not the case.
03.01.2022 One of my weekly watercolour classes at Wallace House in Noosa, a great bunch of students. A six week 'Pen, Ink and wash' course starts on Tuesday 7th June 9am to 12noon contact Noosa Arts and Crafts Association there was one position still available last week.
