23.01.2022 Vale Max Merritt - a great Australian musician. He and The Meteors did great spots on ABC TV's GTK and with Stewie Speer on drums - just brilliant with that soul-funk orientated horn section that just made you "wanna' shake your hips". Here's "Western Union Man" the first song I heard from them on radio 3XY then saw on GTK which they totally nailed. https://youtu.be/B0oCmPUrx1Q
22.01.2022 Hopefully some light at the end of the tunnel soon. To be out and about in the sunshine is a great thing. Locals and visitors came together to join in on this new and special street initiative held at Tocumwal, NSW March 2020. I’ve cut this together for the community to say thanks for the opportunity and in particular to Leonie Smith. Sons of The Blues were a trio that day - Patrick, Jerry and myself performing together at this event alongside Matt Katsis, Nathan Haley, and then Nathan’s trio at the end. My father Bill trained as a B24 Liberator navigator in WW2 at Tocumwal’s massive airbase - an extraordinary story in itself. The people are very friendly, down to earth and possess an enduring, strong community spirit. Enjoy. https://www.youtube.com/watch
22.01.2022 Proud to make Blues on the River a 100% family friendly event! Huge range of free activities on offer in our amazing sculptural kid's space - including henna, face painting, balloon twisting, giant games & circus activities courtesy of the lovely folk at Enchanted Rainbow Entertainment.
22.01.2022 "JD" John Dallimore from Geelong goin' off. Hands down a World Class guitarist - period. You will be well and truly "singed" after this. Here he delivers his song "Tien Wah Cafe Blues" in the company of his combo: Mike Oliphant, Roger McLachlan, Kevin Murphy...(PS Tien Wah was a legendary Chinese cafe / restaurant Geelong from late 50's-60's onwards - great memories of that space, the food and ambience.
21.01.2022 So grateful Shiraz Republic has us on this Sunday from 3 till 5pm!
21.01.2022 Guitarist "JD" John Dallimore from Geelong....there you go.....world class guitarist - period. Deb Mayes 15 July Basically one of the 'hottest' guitar players in Australia, JOHN DALLIMORE did, for a time, head his own band simply called DALLIMORE which is where his career was at when I took this photo during a gig at Easts Leagues Club, Brisbane. Ticket price was probably in the vicinity of $5.00 and the support act was local band Mr MEANER. . . John (affectionately known ...as J.D.) has an illustrious list of credits as a guitarist, singer, song writer and music teacher and is also known for his time with Redhouse, Max Merritt and Jon English and The Foster Brothers. Photo taken: Sunday 17th Feb, 1980 at Easts Leagues Club 40 Main Ave Coorparoo, Brisbane .... You can find more mentions of John Dallimore on Facebook on the Australian Rock Bands 1960's and 1970's Group. John Phillips Rod Hoe moved into Belmont from Norlane, Geelong around 1969-70. He took me along to see JD in Shantung at the Gordon VRI hall one Friday night with Ian Morrison on lead vocals and David Stokes on drums. They were banging out Cream and Hendrix and JD was 15-16 yrs old and playing a Jazzmaster. It was totally astonishing to see him play - people were just standing in there in awe. You would say to yourself "how is this possible?" but it was. Just thinking now it was Brolga on bass as well in that line up. Rod (who was playing in Gathering Child) just raved about Shantung at Belmont High so thanks so much Rod - one of life's great moments as someone else has mentioned to see JD - it was one of my turning points to confirm and venture along the musical path. JD and that band were an inspiration to the MAX along with Redhouse - amazing. I've always had that line in my memory that Andrew Bullen and Dave Steel said when I was rehearsing with them with Salty Dog at GC - "...Dallimore is incredible..." Some other musos from Norlane had come in that day to sit in on our reheasal - Geoff Evans I think and another guy who got up and played bass on Crossroads. The Norlane, Corio area for some reason produced a crop of amazingly talented rock musicians - probably more than any other area in the Geelong region at that time. Mind blowing!

11.01.2022 The Cigarettes (unfiltered rock and roll). Between 1976 to ‘78 at Deakin University, Geelong I played in The Cigarettes and various incarnations of with Alan Wright, Mark Gove, Mark Stanley and Mick Evans. We were very DIY and organised our own Great Ocean Road coastal tour over the summer of ‘76-’77 and did shows at the legendary Argyle Hotel: a favourite watering hole packed with Uni students and Dolee’s and Deakin Uni's "O Week" early '77. Mark and Alan wrote and rec...orded a lot and we actually ended up living nearby to each other again in Strode Street, The Crofts and Rowena Parade Richmond, Melbourne ‘83-‘84 (a huge creative hub). I was at the helm driving Urban Principle along at that stage with UP’s manager Rex Delaney who shared house with Mark and Al. Mark and Al were well underway doing a lot of early home based multi-track recordings of their songs. Sadly Al passed away in last few years. He had a long career in well respected band: Zydeco Jump in Australia and toured internationally. Mark has done a great job pulling an anthology album together that’s just come out THE SKY’S NOT BLUE IT’S HAPPY. It’s a beautiful document of the unique and key creative axis that Mark and Alan shared together which started in Geelong. We have more in the archive with live material from shows in Geelong with "Mick" Michael Evans on drums and guest player Max Zocco as our MC who dropped in for some shows playing harmonica. Max was hilarious interspersing the stage banter intro’s at the Argyle with some classic Groucho Marx film lines. Mick and I went to Belmont High and together we’d done earlier stints in Pellenor early ’76. NTS Radio ran a spot today celebrating the album launch. Go here for the album and clip. There’s a pile of pictures on a separate post after this to celebrate the story, legacy and tribute. See more
10.01.2022 Sons of the Blues are delighted that Mr Jerry Speiser (Men at Work) is joining them to play as a trio this Saturday night at Beneath Driver Lane Cocktail Bar in the Melbourne CBD with Aaron Pollock supporting. Jerry's main band nowadays is Dirty Rascal so look them up on the web; they are excellent. 05.01.2022 Wes was just pure, smooth brilliance on guitar and influenced Hendrix ie 3rd Stone from the Sun. Those octaves, sound and his playing - the magician and yep done by ear, just goes to show you don't necessarily need dots on paper etc - incredible.
05.01.2022 Many are pitching in for this drought relief show on the 4th May at Tocumwal NSW to help farmers and their families. Sons of The Blues are making their way up there to help out. A great line up is scheduled.
