PAINTINGS OFTEN EVOKE STRONG MEMORIES and this painting certainly did this for me. I managed to catch John doing the final touches. This painting is now on exhibition in the Morpeth Gallery.... Original Oil Painting: SPRING CLEANUP - SOFALA - (35 x 25cm) Located on the outskirts of town, the subject matter for this small painting is the Spring burn off which may be very familiar to those of us who live rurally. During the year, fallen branches and other combustible materials are placed onto a pile to be burnt before fire restrictions come into force. It is often a family affair and often turned into bonfire night. John's inspiration was drawn from his early days as a child, when his Dad, his brother Robert and himself, would take their combustibles down to the banks of the Cooks River in a wheelbarrow and burn them at the waters edge. Original Oil Painting: AFTER THE RAINS - BRACHINA GORGE- FLINDERS RANGERS (60cm x 45cm) Having visited the Flinders Rangers on many occasions since the early 1980s together with family, friends and painting companions, I still am drawn to Brachina Gorge as one of the most picturesque and interesting places. The gorge passes through sharp sawtooth ridges of erosion resistant quartzite and was once used as a pass for Bullock teams and their loads. It is now a favourite picnic and camping area The colours in this area of the Flinders have always fascinated me, with soft blue- violets, dusty pinks and earth ochres. I was pleased with the completed painting as I feel it captured the atmosphere and the colours of this unique and ancient place. Original Oil Painting "A GOLDEN AUTUMN" 40cm x 30cm As we enter the calm and colourful season of Autumn, I am reminded of my many earlier painting trips to Tumut, the Gilmore Valley and surrounding areas with fellow artists.... Tumut is often referred to as the gateway to the Snowy and sits on the north-west foothills of the Snowy Mountains. Autumn sees the area magically transformed into a truly breath taking kaleidoscope of gold, crimson and orange. The painting was created from old photos and location sketches, and I believe, captures the essence of a Tumut autumn. 10.01.2022 Do you remember the Fine Art TV Episode from "Colour in Your Life" featuring John Bradley? https://youtu.be/9GE9-Roy14E Painting is wonderfully therapeutic and allows us to develop higher emotional creative aspects of our nature, which might otherwise have lain dormant for a lifetime. As a meditator of some 35 years or so I find the right brain artistic creative process is quite similar to meditation. Time seems to fly when one is in the groove and a sense of well-being whic...h can border on the joyous at times keeps me at the easel much longer than is physically comfortable. There are a number of tried and proven exercises to creating the shift to right brain and I would encourage any artist at any stage of their career to at least try some of these prior to commencing a painting session. Not only does it put one in the right space for painting but it can also help to remove unwanted distractions and background thoughts. 02.01.2022 We heard from a lady this afternoon who bought one of John's Special Edition canvas'. Her story has such a "feel good" message I thought I would share it with you. "Our children gifted us a weekend away at a romantic old home, ‘Bli Bli House’ on the Sunshine Coast.and there were a few of John’s prints on the walls, so it reminded me of our lovely anniversary weekend away (our 34th wedding anniversary). I especially liked this print as I grew up in Sydney, and have had ma...ny happy times, and made many special memories in the Queen Victoria Building, the Town Hall, and environs. We have also taken our children there on several wonderful holidays to Sydney. Plus I love the colours, the lighting, the detail, the beautiful architecture of those buildings, the ‘old world’ feel.
