25.01.2022 This late arvo it was brilliant to meet the leadership committee behind the transformation of the Leederville Sporting Club - a bowling club formed in 1905 that has turned itself into a hub of community activity and space for use by local groups. It's not just open to bowls but hosts a large number of community groups, runs its own community garden, has strong connections to the West Leederville Primary School and goes out of its way to open the space to families and locals.... This new direction has seen the membership grow from 140 to 450 in 6 months! Just wow! It's also got bigger plans for a new decking and outdoor area, supported by an election commitment by Christine Tonkin - Member for Churchlands Many locals from Leederville visit this hub - and you can understand why: it's got a lovely community feel. This really fantastic community leadership - Deb and Kane love your work!

25.01.2022 LOCAL ARTS EVENT ON RIGHT NOW: come down to the North Perth Town Hall until 4pm today to check 18 different artists/creatives who have come together for Xerox Days Zine Market! Zines are mini magazines: and are an opportunity for emerging artists/poets/print makers and creatives to express themselves and showcase all sorts of work! Theres also original prints and art work for sale. Thanks to the City of Vincent, the Xerox Days Zine Market forms part of Forward Bound: a rov...ing exhibition program. Local artist-run organisation Paper Mountain is taking art events such as these out of their Northbridge space and bringing them to the community with an engaging and thought-provoking program of new creative works by early career artists. Big thanks to Natalie and Danielle who made today happen: love your work!

25.01.2022 SNEAK PEAK: Picabar transformation is coming to completion! Today I jointed Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman MLA for a tour of the current redevelopment of the much loved Picabar in the Perth Cultural Centre. The new bar area is looking great, but I think patrons will also love the expanded new deck areas to sit outside and enjoy our great weather.... Picbar owners Melissa, Brian and Conor have a great vision for the small bar. Picbar makes an important contribution to activating the Perth Cultural Centre which I have a strong interest in and passion for as the Chair of a State Government taskforce for the cultural centre. As a taskforce, we are developing a new master plan for the precinct. The cultural centre has a lot of potential but needs a significant revamp to make it more people friendly, greener and better reflects the great cultural institutions which make the place!

24.01.2022 PLEASE SHARE: THE BIGGEST GAME CHANGER FOR OUR CITY: A MAJOR NEW CITY UNIVERSITY PRECINCT IN THE CBD! Life, street activity and vibrancy will be pumped into city, with the heart of the CBD transformed into a university precinct with Edith Cowan University building a new campus, including the WA Academy of Performing Arts, as part of $695 million Commonwealth-State City Deal. I have personally championed a city campus since the PERTH CITY SUMMIT I hosted in 2017. We CRITICAL...LY need more people living, working and studying in the city, as more people drive a stronger day and night time economy, making it feel safer, and more attractive place to visit. This morning I will be joining Planning "makes it happen" Minister Rita Saffioti and the Commonwealth Government to give the full details of the City Deal. This is huge! The deal will see Edith Cowan build a new multi-storey campus on State-owned land on top of the underground bus station in Wellington Street and adjacent to Yagan Square. We anticipate the campus to be built by 2025, with 9000 students/staff from day one, growing to about 11,000 by 2030. This CBD university, which will bring together programs in technology, industry and creativity, including the School of Business and Law. The new CBD campus is expected to boost the WA economy by $1.5 billion, with 3000 jobs during construction and 380 ongoing jobs. MORE DETAILS TO COME, INCLUDING OTHER PARTS OF THE CITY DEAL PACKAGE!

24.01.2022 Today I had the opportunity to visit the first social housing property to be completed under the McGowan Government’s $221 million Housing and Homelessness Investment Package (HHIP). This is a major milestone in this program, but the real milestone will be achieved later this month when a family with five children make this their home. As the new Minister for Housing, I am deeply appreciative to the staff at the Department of Communities, as they roll out this critical progra...m as fast as possible. In the last 12 months, the McGowan Government has committed roughly $500 million through HHIP and the Social Housing Economic Recovery Package, to carry out refurbishment and maintenance work on thousands of social housing properties, and build hundreds more. This will ensure we extend the lifetime of our existing stock, as we expand supply. I know the current rental market is placing pressure on people, and I am committed to getting as many social housing properties online as fast as we can.

23.01.2022 SOLO IS READY FOR YOUR STREET CHRISTMAS PARTY: he just needs an invite! Okay so he's not impressed I've made him into a turkey. But we would still love to come to your street or apartment Christmas party. Every year I try to attend as many local Christmas gatherings as possible: it's just another great way of reaching out, chatting to locals and of course, celebrating my favourite time of the year!... Please message my facebook page or email [email protected] to flick me an invite! In fact, we doubled checked to find that actually last year I attended 35 different Christmas parties (a new record!). I'd love to add your street to the list! . . . . . #perthgram #perthhappenings #perthlife #perthisok #perthiscool #perthisokay #cityofperth #cityofvincent #northperth #leederville #mthawthorn #mounthawthorn #eastperth #perthcity #perthevents #perthhappenings #perthtodo #loveperthlife #perth #perthnow #soperth #seeperth #westisbest #perthsbest #perthwa #perthdogs #perthpups #dogsofperth #perthpuppies

23.01.2022 It's officially been launched today: the new floating venue on our Swan River, and it's called The Raft. Check out this quick clip on the new venue below, but I strongly support this new activation of our Swan River. As a City, we still have a long way to make better use of our river. ... For example, I personally would love to see boardwalks, low scale cafes and restaurants along the river, between Elizabeth Quay and On The Point. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=2789125211409286

22.01.2022 On a personal note, I'll rate this as the best day to date as the Member for Perth. Massive $1.4 billion city deal that for the first time puts a major ECU university campus in the heart of the city. It really is the biggest game changer for our city: more important that Elizabeth Quay or Yagan Square or any other city project. ... It guarantees 9000 student population from day one of its opening: driving a stronger day time and night time economy, more street activity and foot traffic for small business and safer streets. People make a city! I want to personally thank my friend and Planning Minister Rita Saffioti MLA for her determination to close the deal. A bloody great day!

22.01.2022 LOCAL FUNDRAISER SHOUT OUT: 90s DANCE PARTY QUIZ NIGHT! The North Perth Primary School P&C are hosting their annual quiz night, and theyre going all out, with a 90s dance party theme! I have to admit: I go to so many themed P&C quiz and fundraiser nights that the crew at Doyles Costume Shop know me on a first name basis lol!... I am very happy to sponsor this quiz with a major raffle prize: a new retro bike, and Ill be dropping in with my best 90s gear. I love all our P&Cs, they do an awesome job!

22.01.2022 Brilliant news for our environment! We know the number of Electric Vehicles on WA roads is increasing rapidly. They are an important technology and it's vital that our networks keep up. That's why we've investing $21 million in an Electric Vehicle Strategy - the largest single investment in EV charging infrastructure in Australia by a State or Territory Government.... The strategy will facilitate the creation of Australia's longest, and one of the world's longest, electric vehicle charging infrastructure networks - from Perth to Kununurra in the North, Esperance in the South and Kalgoorlie in the East. Supporting the uptake of EVs in WA will create local jobs, cut emissions and reduce pollution. It just makes sense.

22.01.2022 It's an action packed morning but I'm sticking to my weekly door knocking routine and hitting the streets of North Perth. I've been door knocking regularly over the past eight years: first as Mayor and now as MP. It keeps things real and shows you don't just turn up before elections!... I'll always do my best to help!

22.01.2022 SMALL BUSINESS SHOUT OUT: The Grill Shack It's a new local foodie place in our 'hood: The Grill Shack is located at 4/7 Scarborough Beach Rd, North Perth (located opposite BP Petrol station) Owner Sam serves up some sensational comfort food, offering a mix of street food - including burgers, subs and wraps and plenty of awesome sides. ... 22.01.2022 LOCAL SCHOOLS SHOUT OUT! As we come to the end of the year, I want to thank all our local school communities: the school boards, P&Cs and of course Principals and staff that make them work so well. I am also really proud that we’ve rallied together to get so much achieved for our local schools. Everywhere you look, a lot has happened and is happening!... 21.01.2022 THANK YOU SUPPORTERS' EVENT: THIS SUNDAY! YOU'RE INVITED! This is Mima. She's a rock star. I'm here today thanks to the incredible support and work of volunteers like her! During the election, Mima organised and ran a team of 40 locals to flier drop during the election on at least a weekly basis. Mima personally walked long distances to get the job done. ... And of course, Mima walks my dog Solo - and is pretty famous in the local neighbourhood. Mima is like family to me! I never take the support I receive for granted from Mima or any other volunteer. That's why I am holding another get together this Sunday, 18th April, at 4pm at a local park to thank everyone who supported my re-election campaign for Perth. If you door knocked, phoned, flier dropped, attended a fundraiser, had a yard sign or did anything else to help make our campaign sing from the mountain tops, please come along! We will be having the awesome The Little Bar Cart to provide drinks, and plenty of sensational pizza from a range of local small businesses. Please RSVP to our Facebook page, or to [email protected]

20.01.2022 **PLEASE SHARE: A TURNING POINT FOR OUR CITY. A NEW CITY DEAL. MAJOR DETAILS BELOW! Today we announced a major joint State/Federal/Local Government/Private $1.4 billion. ten year city deal : to make our city more vibrant, dynamic and liveable. A key focus is on attracting more people to live, study and work in the city, with not one but three major city university campuses! I have long championed a city deal for Perth: with many of the ideas announced today coming out of the ...Perth City Summit I held in my first year as an MP. For the first time, our city will have a full undergraduate campus opposite Yagan Square: a $695 million investment will see Edith Cowan Universitys signature WAAPA campus, with their business and law schools also joining the CBD campus, and 8000 students starting from day one. Other key features include: $250 million investment to establish Murdoch Universitys Vertical Inner City Campus and expand Curtin Universitys Inner City Campus $110 million investment for Curtin University to establish additional presences in the CBDs Historic Heart $105 million for the CBD Transport Plan for pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. Up to $100 million for the WACA redevelopment and city swimming pool $42 million for Perth Concert Hall Adelaide Terrace $33 million for facilities, safety improvements and services for homeless people in the city. $20 million to upgrade the Perth Cultural Centre precinct $20 million for key works to enable the transformation of East Perth Power Station. 20.01.2022 Great to attend the Mt Hawthorn Cardinals JFC Sponsors and supporters night! This is a brilliant junior sports club: thank you to the efforts of all parent volunteers: like Paula and Mel who make the club happen. Love your work.

19.01.2022 As the Wellington Square redevelopment and transformation continues, it was fantastic to officially present today the Lotterywest grant of $4.37 million for a new intergenerational playground. If we want more residents to live in the city, then we need recreational and family facilities which cater for them! The new playground will feature spectacular climb towers, a flying fox, skating/scooter features and other WA/Indigenous themed playground activities. ... It will be a ripper of a playground and much needed in East Perth and will compliment the new basketball courts, exercise equipment and walk trails that are part of the wider redevelopment.

17.01.2022 HOMELESSNESS UPDATE: MOORE STREET PRECINCT As part of a new approach to better coordinate and reduce duplication among previously 50 homelessness services groups in the city, I worked with the City of Perth to champion a new dedicated one-stop service precinct. For the first time, all mobile food/good/health providers are coordinated as a part of scheduled and accredited program at this one location, rather than ad-hoc across the city.... To date, the precinct has been working well, with picnic seating, lighting, a toilet block and security in place. The location is close to Royal Perth Hospital but does not come into conflict with residents or businesses. As part of works to upgrade the precinct, the State Government has worked with the City of Perth to re-design the area to make it designed for easy mobile homelessness providers, with additional $1.425 million provided to the City of Perth for CCTV and lighting. The City of Perth is also building shelters to provide summer and winter protection for food and goods distribution. During works, mobile providers will be at Wellington Square but will return to Moore Street once works are completed.

17.01.2022 This afternoon I took the opportunity to visit a number of vacant social housing properties in Perth’s south. This is one of a number of visits I have conducted over recent weeks to gain a deeper understanding of our state’s social housing stock. Social housing properties can be vacant due to a number of factors, in particular, properties requiring minor to major refurbishment works and maintenance. Most of these occur when a tenant leaves a property. I am aware of the press...ures we currently face in the rental market, and I am looking at what can be done to get as many vacant social housing properties back online as fast as we can. And as the new Minister for Housing I am focussed on reviewing our current policies on managing vacancies, to keep social housing vacancy rates as low as possible. Today I visited a range of properties, including those that have reached their end of life and others that have just been refurbished under the McGowan Government’s $319 million Social Housing Economic Recovery Package, which ensures these properties will remain part of our social housing stock for many years to come.

16.01.2022 ***WE WANT TO HEAR YOUR VIEW ON POTENTIAL SKATE/SCOOTER INFRASTRUCTURE IN MT HAWTHORN/NORTH PERTH*** Fill out the survey here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/perthskatepark Im passionate about investing in local facilities for our kids: I want to provide opportunities for them to get away from their screens and have fun!... As we know, Mount Hawthorn/ North Perth went through a baby boom and soon we will be overrun by a fine group of tweens and teenagers we need more facilities for our youth and Im keen to secure funding for some skating/scooter facilities in the area. While we do have a large skate park at Leederville, I think it would be great to have a small park, targeted at a younger age group! I want to hear your views and ideas there is genuinely no decision made, and significant planning and consultation would need to occur before any site was operational. I also want to hear from young people so please check with your parents and let me know what facilities you would like to see!

14.01.2022 As the State Member for Perth, my energy and focus is championing the future of our city and inner city communities. But I also strongly appreciate the need for strong investment in our regions. This latest announcement by Premier Mark McGowan is a great one. Patients who need ongoing renal dialysis shouldn’t have to relocate to Perth for quality care.... A re-elected McGowan Labor Government will deliver a new Renal Dialysis Centre in Halls Creek. The $24.1 million centre will be equipped with eight dialysis machines, catering initially for up to 32 patients operated by the Kimberley Renal Services. A 20-bed renal hostel will also form part of the centre, as well as an accommodation unit for staff. This investment builds on previous additional funding for regional renal care. Our Government is absolutely committed to putting patients first in regional WA and ensuring regional patients have access to quality healthcare, closer to home.

14.01.2022 It's one my favourite local stores: William Topp and it's now expanding with a pop up art gallery upstairs. 11.01.2022 The scenes in our state’s Mid West/Gascoyne region in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Seroja have been truly devastating. The McGowan Government is working to support these communities as they recover from this catastrophe. As a community, Western Australian’s have shown time and time again their capacity to pull together and support one another through difficult times.... The communities in Kalbarri, Northampton and surrounds need our help right now, and I ask anyone that can, to donate to the Lord Mayor’s Distress relief fund. This funding will be critical in helping people get back on their feet. To donate head to: https://appealswa.org.au/

10.01.2022 GREAT WORDS FROM PREMIER Mark McGowan on R U OK? DAY For many, this year has been extremely hard. In living memory, there hasnt been one like it. And in hard times, its important that we all make an effort to reach out to one another and check in. From the early days of the pandemic weve been separated from friends and family. Many worried where the next pay check was coming from. ... There was uncertainty for business owners concerned not just about their own livelihood but also the livelihoods of the people they employ. More recently, weve thought about the safety of our family and friends over east. We have had to deal with the anxiety of what will happen if we have an outbreak in WA, and what that will mean for our loved ones here at home, who are at high risk from the virus. And while COVID-19 has been on our mind life didnt stop. It all takes a toll. It can be a lot. Thats why its so important - more important than ever - to check in on your mates. If you think they might be struggling, be sure to check in and ask if they are ok. Let them know youre here for them. Let them know you care. Let them know it will not always be like this. Let them know theres hope. This isnt just a message for one day, or one week. Its something we can do every day. Look after yourself, take care of your friends, and remember, were in this together. It is a game-changer that will change the City for the better.s with more than 8,000 students anticipated on campus from day one. The move will also see nearly 300 performances yearly added to the arts and culture calendar in the City! It is a game changer that will change the City for the better.

10.01.2022 The new City Deal provides $105 million for the Perth Greater CBD Transport Plan - a shared transport vision between the State Government and City of Perth. As the member for Perth, I personally worked on the Perth Greater CBD Transport Plan, which was developed to guide the transport future of Perths city centre to enhance liveability, attract visitors and new residents to the city. The plan has the vision to help create a safe, connected and more vibrant CBD, through impr...ovements to pedestrian and cycling linkages. The plan makes it easier to walk and cycle between different parts of Perth CBD, and includes: *Swan River Causeway Bridge linking East Perth with Victoria Park via Heirisson Island *Construct a north-south bicycle route along Bennett Street in East Perth, connecting Riverside Drive to Royal Street *Deliver an east-west bicycle route along Moore, Wittenoom and Nile Streets in Perth and East Perth, helping to connect Barrack Street Bridge to Matagarup Bridge *Deliver path and lighting upgrades along the existing shared path that connects Waterbank Perth to the Matagarup Bridge *Improve safety and connectivity around RAC Arena. *Upgrading the Kings Park Road Shared Path *Upgrading Aberdeen Street bike lanes *The Northbridge Laneway project *Upgrading the Riverside Drive Shared Path *Accessibility upgrades at bus stops *The Roe Street Enhancement bike lanes project

10.01.2022 North Perth Primary School P&C 90's Quiz Night! I'm getting on my best Baywatch vibe with Cher from Clueless . I reckon that I'm one of the few politicians to have a permanent costume box in my office, given all the 70s/80s/90's/Retro/Bogan school themed fundraisers I go to. ... Proud to have supported this event by providing the major raffle prize of a vintage bike. Love this school, love the parent community!

10.01.2022 It's been an awesome community event: and lots of locals have come out for today's Brick Around the Block Lego Trail! I love the fact that local Leederville resident Kat came up with this idea and organised it: and I'm very happy my office could support it. It's not just about lego of course: it's all about walking around your neighbourhood and meeting new locals. ... Brilliant work Kat. This is community!

09.01.2022 What does hope mean for you? Based in Perth, the Museum of Freedom and Tolerance is designed to dismantle prejudice, discrimination and intolerance across our community. The museum uses art, history, technology, storytelling and values-based learning to promote tolerance, with programs designed to reach a wide range of individuals and groups including students, families, professional bodies, workplace teams, community groups, academics and the general public.... As part of their awareness campaign, they’ve launched a series of tees, which encourage reflection, and interaction on human rights. Left blank, their t-shirts start conversations. Filled in, their t-shirts show the world what matters to you. To find out more about the Museum or buy one of their tees (Hope, Freedom, Joy, Belonging, Equality, Hope), head to www.mftwa.org.au.

09.01.2022 Local Governments are far more than just roads, rates and rubbish. They’re the focal point for rallying the community during tough times. I spent most of this afternoon ringing the mayors and CEOs at many of the local governments in the Mid West/Gascoyne region that have been severely affected by Cyclone Seroja. From my conversations, it’s clear that local governments like the Shire of Chapman Valley are going all out to assist and provide support to their communities affecte...d by this disaster. Things like sending staff out to door knock residents who can’t be contacted because the phone lines are down, hosting community forums and organising support services. This is the best of local government and our community on display. As the Minister for Local Government, I wanted to give these local governments a shout out for their efforts. The state and federal governments have activated disaster assistance arrangements, which will allow for funding to flow through to support and rebuild affected communities in these local government areas.

09.01.2022 Happy Pride! We might not have the parade this year, but every day should be the same approach: love, kindness, respect and acceptance. PS - Solo still ain't impressed!

09.01.2022 **CITY DEAL DELIVERS FUNDS FOR EAST PERTH NEW POOL, GREATER STREET ACTIVATION** This is something that I have been championing at all levels of Government - to deliver important amenities for local residents in our city! The new Perth City deal announced on the weekend will deliver up to $100 million to redevelop the WACA and transform it into a state of the art sporting facility including an inner-city swimming pool, childrens water playground and other recreational ameni...ties. The City of Perth Commissioners have also set aside funding for the Citys contribution to the new aquatic facility as part of the City Deal. The $105 million CBD transport plan delivers significantly for East Perth too: with the iconic new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Swan River a major new gateway for the precinct, which will facilitate more people into the precinct! Theres also a major investment in cycling and pedestrian upgrades, including new lighting and safer upgrades for a shared path on the Foreshore in front of Trinity College, and new bike lanes for Bennett and Wittenoom Streets. Its all about getting more people to walk, and cycle in the precinct, make it a far more lively, vibrant and safer place to live!

09.01.2022 Big thank you to these champion volunteers who rang locals tonight for my re-election campaign in Perth. 06.01.2022 On a personal note, Ill rate this as the best day to date as the Member for Perth. 05.01.2022 Brain cancer is a special cause to me. My beautiful mum fought a 11 month battle with a GBM 4 Brain Tumour: the most aggressive form of brain cancer. It was the greatest honour in my life to care for her with my dad and sister before her passing. I was able to remember her by establishing a brain tumour support group for patients, family, and friends that continues today. ... Ill be supporting this annual fundraiser which collects funds for this critical research: there is no cure for GBM4 and survival is less than 5%. While COVID-19 has changed the way the event is organised this year, it has not changed the determination to beat this horrid terminal disease.

04.01.2022 PERTH CULTURAL CENTRE UPDATE: Im passionate about creating a more vibrant, dynamic and people cultural centre in our city, which is home to many of citys great arts and culture institutions. As Chair of the Perth Culture Centre Taskforce, Ive been working with taskforce members to look at short term improvements with a clear new long term master plan for space. ... Its very obvious the space needs a major transformation to make it more people friendly: more trees and shade, better lighting, and better integration with the surrounding buildings. We also need a clear visual connection between James Street and this important cultural space. Today we were working through more immediate wins but I can not wait to get in place a new masterplan that puts people first!
