23.01.2022 There are only 250 cases produced of this single vineyard wine and the vines are more than 115 years old. These centerian barossan vines really are something sp...ecial and amongst the oldest in the world. 2017 @johnduvalwines #annexus #mataro This comes from a cooler than average vintage in the Barossa and is one for the cellar. Its concentrated and structured and will certainly reward with further integration time. There's a fullness of dark cherry and blueberry fruits which transitions to a relatively restrained, yet complex mid palate of white pepper, dried herbs, eucalyptus and granite. The finish is quite tight from chalky tannins plus a subtle level of spicy acidity. Its a #fantasticwine that's made to last well past 2030 and will benefit from decanting if drinking young. #barossavalley #southaustralia This only the second release of this wine. John Duval made the first vintage almost on a whim, however there was an element of calculation as well. Having worked 45 years making wine in the Barossa Valley you tend to know where the good vineyards are and the fruit for this wine was at one time contracted to Penfolds, to make the iconic Grandfather Port. With the decline of the fortified market in Australia, this contract lapsed and the owners contacted John Duval to see if he was interested in purchasing the fruit, which he did without hesitation. John had never produced a 100% Mataro. He knew he had high quality fruit but he really only decided to make a single site Mataro when the fruit was in the fermenter. The intensity and amazing flavour of the ferment was so good, that he felt that it deserved to be a wine in its own right, rather then blending, which is what he has commonly done with Mataro fruit in the past. It's also interesting that he has called it Mataro. It's a variety better known as Mourvedre in Australia and Monastrell in Spain. John says that all the Winemakers in the Barossa are calling this fruit Mataro, so it was only natural to him, that this is what should be on the actual label. See more

14.01.2022 Good news on Good Friday with a great review just in from the team at The Real Review for Integro Cabernet Shiraz. "Deep and intense ruby core that fades only slightly into the rim. Black fruits, tobacco leaf and cola spices on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, incredibly well-poised with Christmas cake and spice notes rolling around the mouth. Great length and drive into the finish. A delicate hand has built a delicious modern Barossa red 98/100" 18 MAR 2021 Stuart Knox https://www.johnduvalwines.com//2017-integro-cabernet-shi/
