25.01.2022 Stress is often given a bad name but the right amount of stress can motivate you to get things done. In order to prevent 'bad stress' it is important to recognise when it has become overwhelming instead of motivating. One of the best ways to do this during the COVID 19 lockdown, is to maintain a routine. Routines can help family life run a little smoother and they can teach us about basic time management skills. Sometimes things won’t go to plan but that’s ok! Think about wha...t you would change the next time (ie doing less in a day). By working together as a family to build a routine, everyone will feel invested in it and also have realistic expectations. A vital component of building a routine is also making space for downtime to include sleep, eating well, exercise and maintaining connections with family and friends. Another great way to build a successful routine is to make a visual template. This will make it much easier for everyone in the family to remember and complete their tasks. While this can be a tricky time to start, the benefits are often enormous particularly for your families' wellbeing."

25.01.2022 Congratulations John Fawkner College boys intermediate football team. Melbourne City Cup Winners! (6-0, 7-0, 4-0 and 3-0) Clean sheets all day!!

23.01.2022 Coronavirus (COVID-19) can spread from close contact with another person who has the virus. The best way to protect other people against coronavirus (COVID-19) is keeping 1.5 metres apart, wash your hands often, and cough or sneeze into your elbow or tissue. Face coverings are an additional protective physical barrier to protect you and your loved ones. Face coverings help stop droplets spreading when someone speaks, laughs, coughs, or sneezes, including someone who has coronavirus (COVID-19) but feels well. A face covering includes any paper or fabric, covering the nose and mouth to protect the wearer. For more information please visit https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-coverings-covid-19. https://youtu.be/9Tv2BVN_WTk

22.01.2022 As many members in our community may be aware, the Victorian Premier today has announced plans for a staged return to school for all students in years 7 to 12. As a result from Tuesday 26 May, all VCE and VCAL students will return to on-site learning at government schools. The next fortnight, and a pupil free day at all schools on 25 May, will give staff, schools and families time to prepare for the change. Vulnerable students and children in those years whose parents or care...rs cannot work from home, can continue to attend school on-site as needed during this period. Students in the broader year 7 to 10 cohort will continue to learn remotely until Tuesday 9 June, to give the Government and the Chief Health Officer time to monitor and evaluate the effects that the return to school by other year levels has on the increased movement of people and transmission within the community. Closer to the return to school dates, the College will provide detailed information to all families on the plans and process to ensure safe continuity of learning. See more

18.01.2022 Monday the 16th November is a day that some of our schools’ young men will never forget. The opportunity to train with not only two outstanding Islamic leaders but also two of the AFL’s best running defenders in the competition is a privilege not many are afforded. As part of the Bachar Houli Foundation 16 young men were chosen to participate in a leadership and mentoring program to help forge their pathway through life and connect with their Islamic faith through the eyes of... a leader. The seven week course culminated in a training day and graduation where players received signed playing jumpers from Adam Saad and triple premiership player Bachar Houli. Earlier in the day they were put through a skills and conditioning session from former St. Kilda player Ahmed Saad. It was a small insight to the skills of the game and then some fitness required to make it at the top level. Overall the program and the graduation day were a big success for our chosen participants. At times they were forced out of their comfort zone and showed their vulnerabilities, fears and dreams in front of their peers. This took a lot of courage for them to do this and they gained new respect and for new perspectives for each other’s challenges. A big thank you to Ali Fahour who facilitated the whole program and former JFC student Ismail Moussa.

01.01.2022 More than ever before, this year it’s important to manage any hay fever or asthma symptoms, as these conditions can produce symptoms that are similar to coronavirus (COVID-19) such as runny nose, cough or shortness of breath. Grass pollen season occurs between October and December. There is an increased risk of seasonal asthma, hay fever and epidemic thunderstorm asthma during this time. Epidemic thunderstorm asthma events are triggered by an uncommon combination of high gras...s pollen levels and a certain type of thunderstorm, resulting in large numbers of people developing asthma symptoms over a short period of time. People with a history of asthma, undiagnosed asthma or hay fever are at an increased risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma during this time. Having both hay fever and asthma that are poorly managed increases the risk further. The best way to reduce and prevent symptoms of asthma or hay fever and reduce unnecessary absences from school is to follow an up-to-date asthma action plan or hay fever treatment plan. Download the VicEmergency app and create a ‘watch zone’ for epidemic thunderstorm asthma advice and warnings. On days with a heightened risk of thunderstorm asthma, avoid being outside during thunderstorms and during wind gusts that come before a storm. For more information on Thunderstorm Asthma please visit https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/cam/thunderstorm-asthma
