25.01.2022 ATAR Notes free live-streamed lecture series starts today and runs until Friday 2 October. This series includes sessions for Year 10 subjects, Units 1 and 2 subjects and Units 3 and 4 subjects, as well as specific sessions on how to ace VCE. The lectures aim to provide students with an overview of important content and topics to be aware of, advice from elite graduate guest speakers on the best exam preparation, top tips and tricks for studying and revising for SACs and the ...chance to learn from some of VCEs best tutors. 20.01.2022 The College is proud to share that Kyron and Liam have been award Peninsula VCAL Awards. Kyron has been awarded the VCAL Excellence Award, having demonstrated the best of what a VCAL program can achieve for students, consistently showing rare initiative, innate leadership ability and outstanding work ethic. Kyron has developed positive, mature relationships with peers and staff alike and is a credit to himself, his family and the College. Liam has been awarded the VCAL Encour...agement Award as a result of his consistent commitment to his studies and confident and capable nature. Liam has been commended in his VET study of Early Childhood Education and has been similarly lauded by his VCAL teachers for his considered application to learning. 16.01.2022 Today marks the 6th Anniversary of the College's Community Companion food van. The companion aims to provide food, drink, necessities, conversation and support to those less fortune in Frankston. Students established and raised funds for the Van in 2014, after identifying a need for a food van in the Frankston community. Unfortunately due to COVID-19, the companion hasn't been able to provide assistance to the homeless and marginalised at this time, however the College is eager to get back to it as soon as it is safe for our community.

14.01.2022 Any students wishing to submit a writing or artwork piece for this year's Shared Stories anthology, around the theme of Respect, are encouraged to get their submissions in by the end of Week 1, Term 4. Shared Stories is an annual anthology of creative works by primary and secondary students from Catholic schools across Victoria. The anthology forms part of the permanent collection of the State Library of Victoria. 13.01.2022 Congratulations to Kyran and Keona, who have been presented with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students in Victorian Catholic Schools ‘Year 12 Graduation Certificate 2020’ from the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria. Normally CECV hosts a Graduation Dinner for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait students across Victoria who will complete Year 12. This certificate acknowledges the completion of these students’ secondary education a significant milestone for each student and their families.

13.01.2022 The College is proud to announce the 2021 Year 9 House Leadership Team. Congratulations to Sophie, Zoe, Xavier, Emily, Chase, Amber, Niña and Tahlia who will lead their respective Houses in 2021. These students have displayed an exemplary commitment to the College community and we look forward to their further involvement next year.

12.01.2022 On Wednesday evening the College invited all Year 7 students to participate in our first ever Time and Space event. The online event saw Year 7 students and their mums or significant female role models share conversations and simply have an opportunity to connect in a structured way. By sharing stories behind physical items of significance with each other, students developed a deeper understanding of their relationship with their mother or female mentor. After the initial ...introduction by Bill Jennings, participants were sent into breakout rooms with a Year 11 or 12 College Leader who lead the discussion and volunteered their reflections on their school journey. The families who participated were unanimous in their support of the evening and the College will certainly be expanding the program in coming years to help recognise the significance of relationships in the learning journey of our young adults. Thank you to all who came along and got involved, we hope it was a memorable and special experience for all. This was really enjoyable and I loved sharing experiences with everyone we were paired with. 12.01.2022 Earlier this week, 8 students took part in a virtual SIS Book in a Day competition and accepted the challenge of completing an illustrated novella of 4000-6000 words by 5pm, via Teams. At the start of the day students were given 5 prompts: a girl with attitude, a smart boy, a lizard, a forest and a power outage. They were also given 5 words: initialise, traipse, mesmerising, befuddled, expertise. These prompts needed to be the framework for their story and the words had to ...appear somewhere within their writing piece. Working remotely, communication was key, there was constant online chatting, shared documents and meetings. The team did an amazing job and have written a clever and engaging story, which is available to read on the JPC Resource Centre website, accessible via SIMON.

The Altitude program is a student-driven initiative that enables students to extend their learning and develop practical problem-solving skills in STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics). In Semester 1 this year, students who participated in the program were given the freedom to choose projects based on their interests and talents, and decided to make a difference by creating nest boxes for local na...tive species whose homes were lost in the bushfires. 11.01.2022 This week Year 12 students received a special surprise in the mail, their commemorative Year 12 jumpers. The jumpers symbolise hard work, dedication and friendship. The College is very proud of how these young adults have tackled the challenges of this year. 09.01.2022 As per Arts Week tradition, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our 2020 Arts Leader, Issy, for the leadership, tenacity, passion and optimism she demonstrates in everything she does. Issy was a Ngargee Kid long before she started at JPC and we are so proud of everything she has accomplished during her time here. While 2020 has been far from what we would have expected, Issy has led by example, has demonstrated immense strength of character and has kept everybody... focused on what is truly important: our Ngargee Family. 08.01.2022 Today we reach the end of what was a very different Term 3 than we could have possibly envisaged earlier in the year. Whilst this term has been filled with challenges, we are enormously proud of the way students, staff and families have banded together and demonstrated an ability to adapt to change and stay connected as a school community. 08.01.2022 Year 10 student, Mitch investigated Newtons First Law of Motion (Inertia), which states that an object in motion (or at rest) stays in motion (or at rest) unless acted upon by an opposing force. For a brief nanosecond or so, the egg didnt move because it was already stationary (not moving). But then the force of gravity took over and pulled the egg straight down toward the centre of the Earth. Great job Mitch! It's great to see our budding scientists continuing to explore the wonders of Science at home!

07.01.2022 As we near the end of the school year, the 2020 John Paul College Reading Program has come to an end and the winners have been announced! Congratulations to our Year 7 Reading Champion Nidish who read 31,605 pages this year and our Year 8 Reading Champion Emily who read 14,418 pages this year. Our two Reading Champions for 2020 received a trophy to recognise their fantastic achievements, while every student who read over 2,000 pages received a certificate for their outstandi...ng efforts. On Thursday 26 November the Years 7 and 8 class that have collectively read the most pages throughout 2020 and finished on top of the leader board will be rewarded with a special lunch to celebrate.

05.01.2022 Mornington Peninsula author Danielle Binks, has generously provided a care package of books for our JPC students to enjoy. The donated books are a real mix of genres and authors, across a few age-groups and for good measure, Ive popped in a signed copy of my book - The Year the Maps Changed-signed to John Paul College. said Danielle. Danielle's book, The Year the Maps Changed, came out earlier this year and is about a middle-grade coming-of-age story about the bonds of fa...mily and the power of compassion. 05.01.2022 Reconciliation Week is held every year from 27 May to 3 June, it is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. At the heart of this are relationships between the broader Australian community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The clip below showcases the collective efforts of the Family School Partnerships Bunurong Schools cluster during Reconciliation Week 2020. 04.01.2022 Today is 'R U OK? Day', this day has never been more important or relevant, as we continue through lockdown and Stage 4 restrictions. This week Pastoral Care teachers were provided with 'R U OK? Day' resources to share with their Pastoral group to help start conversations about mental health and to encourage students to 'check-in' with people in their lives. Intermediate VCAL students are also undertaking a task around creating a COVID R U OK? package. ... Today we ask each member of our College community, to check in with someone in your life and ask them R U OK?

04.01.2022 A reminder to all students, staff and families, tomorrow is a Wellbeing Day and therefore no classes will take place. The Wellbeing Day is designed to be a day for each one of us to focus on our own wellbeing, it may be a time for catch up or extra study or simply a day to recharge the batteries. The College thanks our community for the incredible effort that has been made in this second period of Remote Learning. Whilst there will be more challenges ahead, we can be confident that we are doing our best to support each other.

This year looks a little different to previous years, with online events, virtual tours and stay-at-home science experiences available to students via the National Science week website. The week is an opportunity to reflect on the life saving work done on our behalf by STEM professionals. Chaminade middle pastoral classes are getting involved this year by participating in daily Science week themed quizzes. Todays quiz was human anatomy trivia. The winning pastoral at the end of the week will win a pizza lunch at the end of Term 4. How will you science this week?

04.01.2022 Today wraps up Chaminade middle pastoral's daily science quiz in celebration of Science Week 2020. Topics covered included ocean trivia, human anatomy, ocean songs and ocean animals. On the podium were PCM1 in third place, PCM5 in second place and PCM3 in first place on 570 points. Well done PCM3 scientists, you have won a well earned pizza lunch when you return onsite!... Students in Years 7 - 9 are also participating in a Virtual Incursion with Perform Education, in line with this year's theme of Deep Blue: Innovation for the future of our oceans. This educational incursion engages students in marine science and innovation to achieve long-term sustainability of our oceans.

03.01.2022 The Opening The Doors Foundation are currently selling timber Christmas tree ornaments, with all proceeds going directly to supporting educational costs for Aboriginal students around Victoria. The ornaments depict festive gum nuts with a Merry Christmas message. Each ornament is signed by Opening The Doors Foundation on the back as they are a gift ‘from our family to yours’. The Opening the Doors Foundation is a charity set up by the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry who also fac...ilitate the FIRE Carrier program in the Family School Partnerships Bunurong Cluster of Schools, which the College is a proud member of. 03.01.2022 The College is collecting donations for the St Vincent De Paul Christmas Hampers, with donation boxes located in every Pastoral Care classroom. Donations required include noodles, canned goods, muesli bars, toys, pasta, rice, clothes, non-perishable items, toiletries and books. Donations are welcome until 1 December and will be collated and gifted to people in need over Christmas. Your contribution may change someone’s Christmas and give light and happiness to those who need it most over the holidays!

01.01.2022 Young Adult author, Will Kostakis, has kindly put together a video of encouragement for our JPC students during this time of Remote Learning. Will was supposed to be speaking to students onsite for Book Week this year, however won't be able to due to COVID-19. Will has recently released Rebel Gods, which is the gripping conclusion to Monuments, a Childrens Book Council of Australia, Notable Book for 2019.
