19.01.2022 Q. What is Enhanced Primary Care ? A. The Enhanced Primary Care Plan (EPC)is a government initiative that allows people with chronic injuries or ailments to access professional services to assist with the management of their condition with the benefits of a Medicare Rebate.... It is an option for patients to have Medicare cover the cost of your podiatry treatment with no out of pocket expense. There are rules to follow: Maximum of 5 visits permitted per calendar year for all allied health professions. In other words your doctor may grant 2 visits to podiatry and 2 to a physiotherapist and 1 to diabetes educator as the total adds to 5 no other visits permitted for that calendar year. If you have a long standing medical condition speak to your doctor if qualify for an EPC plan for podiatry. Our EFTPOS terminal processes your Medicare claims on the spot. Feel free to contact us if you would like additional information 5593-0677. Kind regards Johns Foot Care

11.01.2022 We shall always remember them.

10.01.2022 A usual routine foot treatment I ask why the bandaid around the ankle, patient replies it has been hurting over a month not seen by anyone. I discover he has neuropathy. I remove the bandage I notice an ulcer with a white centre. Sadly yes it was bone, now the bone is at risk of infection Osteomyelitis which now places his limb at risk.... Take home message - what you may think is a normal treatment or trim and file can turn into a medical emergency. Make sure if you have absent or decreased sensation in your feet you are regularly seen by your podiatrist. REMEMBER: Your Podiatrist is your BEST FRIEND for FEET!

09.01.2022 Podiatry: Corns and Callous Hyperkeratoses (Callous) is thickening of the skin (epidermis), usually caused by mechanical forces, shear, pressure and friction causing hardening of the skin which appear as a callous or corn. Callosities look yellow, hard, dense areas of skin on the soles of the feet. Corns (helomata) appear darker, harder and seated superficial to deep in the skin and can be found within a callous or by themselves. Callous may feel like a stab, sting, or burn...ing sensation. Corns feel as though your walking on a very small sharp stone. These symptoms intensify with increased ground reaction forces when walking. Callous and corns are found on areas subjected to mechanical stress associated with biomechanical foot function. Clawed toes may have callosities on apices of toes or on top around joints due to footwear pressure . Clinically callosities and corns are treated by manual debridement and enucleation and offloading pressure areas. Orthoses may be required to correct poor foot biomechanics. See more

05.01.2022 Why does my podiatrist use the back of his hands to feel if my legs and feet are warm? We look for variations in temperature from both feet. In this case a diabetic LOW RISK patient presented with a painful Right toe kept her awake overnight first noticed 3 days ago symptoms worsened so she came to see me.... You will notice some excoriations and cracked skin in the epidermal layer similar to a heel fissure. The patient reported walking barefoot around the pool it is likely the open skin barrier was the cause of her infection. Temperature had a variation of 3 degrees compared to the asymptomatic limb. If this was left it had the early signs of ascending cellulitis potentially needing hospitalization and In vitro antibiotic therapy. The patient has since been placed on an oral antibiotic and stable. Take home message: if you notice a change in your feet or sudden pain have it seen quickly by your podiatrist.
