23.01.2022 I'm not given to being my own publicist, but some of my Australian colleagues and friends have already been posting congratulatory notes on my page. So let me tell you that today it was announced in the Australia Day Honours that I have been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for my contributions to music and musicology. It's a very satisfying feeling. My thanks to those who have already sent their wishes.

18.01.2022 After a long wait, my new article on Heteroclito Giancarli has been published. It's not about the vihuela, but instead about an Italian lutenist singer who published a book of songs with tablature accompaniment in 1602. That's the same year that Caccini published Le nuove musiche. It's important because it helps put Caccini and the Florentine monodists into the continuing practice of singing to the lute that ran right through the sixteenth century. It suggests that the invention of monody was not quite the Big Bang that our music historians tell us. It is published in "French Renaissance Music and Beyond: Studies in Memory of Frank Dobbins" (Turnhout: Brepols, 2018). http://www.brepols.net/Pages/ShowProduct.aspx
