18.01.2022 First the NSW Government wanted to demolish Willow Grove to build a "New Powerhouse Museum" on the Parramatta River site. Now they have an un-costed notion to move it to North Parramatta! A Green Ban has been placed on Willow Grove to protect it because its significance is much more than just the building. It is also the only nineteenth century Italianate villa of its kind in Parramatta. North Parramatta Residents Action Group - NPRAG continues to campaign to save Willow Grove. 06.01.2022 Traumatic news from Glebe. NSWG's Housing department has announced the demolition and re-development of a 1980s housing estate in Frankin Street (near Broadway). Hard to see how this demolition can be justified if the increase in social housing is only about 20 homes - to 130 homes. The rest (70%) is private market - 3 towers. The process seems very similar to Millers Point/The Rocks dispersal process started in 2014. For tenants the same talk of "care", and "caseworker" but ...fine print is draconian: you will only have one offer, perhaps 2. Lots of cruel yabber about facing the street and "activation" ie shops. Glebe does not lack cafes, but Sydney and NSW has a housing crisis.
