25.01.2022 The story of Peter, with bilateral club feet. Painful to walk after a very short time. Hopefully he will get surgery soon.

24.01.2022 Our final days in Epi and then Emae were wonderful as doors opened up for us thru one key family. So many stories of timely interactions with individuals, but here's a taste. Our thanks go to God for his direction as we "winged it" and our generous skipper who made his boat available to get us to these islands.

22.01.2022 In 3 weeks our team will be in Vanuatu, and going to Tanna. We will deliver and fit Wheelchairs for Kids chairs, provide therapy and other equipment.

22.01.2022 Excitement is starting to build. We are going again to Vanuatu, this time with a focus on Tanna. Are you interested? We will most likely need a PT and SP, so contact us if interested. Our dates are Friday 30 June to Sunday 18th July (or there abouts). YOU can check out our website www.jto.org.au, and see the Volunteers information pack there, which is a little out of date on specifics but the general information is still correct.

22.01.2022 JTO team and Malakula disability committee welcoming us at Province office;

22.01.2022 WE are still hoping to have a physiotherapist and a speech pathologist join our team this year, leaving on June 30th and returning July 17th. IF you have been thinking about joining us, today is the final day for decision making. We'd love to have you on our team.We are going back to Tanna, a beautiful island in the southern areas of Vanuatu.

21.01.2022 Please URGENTLY make a TAX DEDUCTIBLE DONATION on our website jto.org.au to keep our wheelchairs afloat on the high seas!!! The coffers are bare, with costs outstanding as we embark on two outreaches. In July Janet and Lois will lead a team on the island of Tanna. Sace and Anthea will again take JTO wheelchairs on the YWAM medical ship, the "Pacific Hope" in August on the island of Santo. All money donated goes to freight, equipment, food and local transport for the Nivan p...eople. We cover our travel and personal costs ourselves. If you are able to help us financially, you can go to our website: jto.org.au and click on "Donate". You can donate without tax deductibility by Paypal, but if you want to make a tax deductible donation, make sure you follow the specific instructions. Thanks for your prayer, interest and, if able, financial support in helping us assist people with disabilities to become more active and valued participants in their communities. See more

20.01.2022 We have had a busy week on Malakula; Have had an amazing time. worked with the disability committee and people with disabilities, met some amazing people and been treated like royalty. it is just so difficult to put into words what we have done; especially as the internet is slow. SO we are now back in Vila. I will post some photos if poss and perhaps more text later.

20.01.2022 Home again after being "agents of change" in Vanuatu. Our goal was to enable people to engage more completely in their community as valued members. We demonstrated care for the elderly and for those with autism, cerebral palsy, hearing impairment, learning disabilities, and difficulties with speech and swallowing.

19.01.2022 Sace and Anthea are back in Vanuatu with a small YWAM team. We are working with the two local nurses on a small island called Emae.

19.01.2022 Planning for our 2018 trip to Vanuatu is underway. Janet has been successful again in obtaining a highly competitive grant to fund eight occupational therapy students to go. So we are well served in that area. We would love to have physiotherapy, speech pathology, and medical practitioners as part of the team. We go on July 7th and return July 22nd. Why don't you join us for an absolutely unique experience and contribute to the wellbeing of people in Vanuatu.

18.01.2022 JTO' S second outreach for 2017 begins! There's a container of wheel chairs and equipment in here somewhere! A bush knife to cut the grass hiding the lock and then onto YWAM's medical ship, the "Pacific Hope". Sace and Anthea, along with the Marine Reach team will serve people with disabilities and health needs on the remote coast of West Santo.

18.01.2022 2019 outreach postscript. The mother of Ricky, with the enlarged head (hydrocephalus) was moved to tears when Donald, the nurse brought her the carton of nappies and toys that we sent on the plane from Vila. Jesus said the least would be the greatest in his kingdom. This little boy's story continues as we work out how to further support this family with the help of our dear friends here.

18.01.2022 Our visit is only 4 months away, and our planning is gearing up. Hopefully will get the freight organised tomorrow. We have had numerous OT's express interest, and would really like to have a physiotherapist, and a speech pathologist. IF this is something you may be interested in you can visit our website www.jto.org.au for more information and email contact details. WE can guarantee you and amazing experience.

17.01.2022 Check out Wheelchairs for Kids facebook page: their main photo is of the sisters we provided with wheelchairs on Malakula. Great work. https://www.facebook.com/wheelchairsforkids?fref=ts

17.01.2022 In between working on the wheelchairs the team was able to see many others with chronic disabilities, such as strokes or degenerative conditions, and provide reading and distance glasses to those who needed them across the island - about 40 pairs in all. One sweet elderly lady could not see anything in front of her - until Anthea and Sue tried some -5.5 distance glasses. Her shocked reaction was astounding as she looked all around her in amazement. She exclaimed: "First time" as she looked at her friends' faces and her surroundings. We are grateful for Rob and Kerry from Sailing with Purpose who made their yacht available for us to sail to this remote island.

17.01.2022 This coming Tuesday evening, Jan 2nd , Tanna (the movie) is showing on ABC Ch 2 Perth at 8.55pm. WE have been to Tanna 3 (or is it 4) times now, and on our last visit we met most of the stars of the movie. Much of what you see in the movie is how life still is today. Worth watching.

17.01.2022 Some pics from our first week in Malekula

14.01.2022 Sace and Anthea knew they had to return to Vanuatu to visit two needy little boys one more time. With the help of Jared Waipouri and Mona (Solomona Puipuifatu) from V2Life, Rob Price from Sailing with Purpose and Sue Sanders, Occupational Therapist volunteering in Tanna, our little team were able to seat these two children in "Wheelchairs for Kids" specialised rough terrain wheelchairs. While Jared, Rob, Sace and Mona were busy twirling ratchet spanners, sawing plywood and cu...tting rubber padding according to Sue's expert directions, we spent time listening to the families share about the difficulties they faced. Riki's blindness made it hard for the family to help him. It was very special to see Riki's face light up as he listened to our voices talking to him, felt new textures and toys and enjoyed the sensation of lying in new positions on soft mats and then finally sitting comfortably upright in his new wheelchair! He was eating and drinking calmly in the safe new way and giggling as we played a mini version of tug of war with a towel and other games. He learnt to request that a game continue with a new word, "more", that Anthea was able to teach him. His family told us they could now see he was actually communicating in other non-verbal ways, something they had never realised. At the end of our four days there we learned that Riki's mum had been praying for God to send someone to show her how to care for him. We were privileged to be part of their story and so grateful God made the way for us to return with this wonderful team. The words of Jesus recorded in the Gospel of Matthew came to mind, "Just as you did it for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did it for me".

13.01.2022 After some fruitful and busy days, we have sailed from Emae to Epi. So grateful for sea sick pills, and an amazing crew to look after us!

13.01.2022 It was whole team effort over four days to put together and make multiple adaptations so that Riki could be safe and comfortable. At the same time Anthea and Sue showed Riki's mum how to teach him new skills. The new sleeping mats and blanket will make his sleeping and resting so much more comfortable.

13.01.2022 Danimo also loved his new wheelchair. Especially the part where Sue showed mum how to navigate the wheelchair up a step.

12.01.2022 Our team is ready and we leave on or about July 1st for 2 weeks in Vanuatu. We will be going to Malakula and working with the disability committee who we worked with in 2015. We will also be going to the small island of Ambae for the first time. We have a multi disciplinary team and one OT student.

11.01.2022 Busy working in the community on Tanna. Great team of dedicated people.

11.01.2022 We are already starting to plan our visit to Vanuatu for the middle of this year. I have been in contact with the people at the Vanuatu Government Disability Desk (who we liaise with and work very closely with ) and are starting to formulate our plan. Our visit is likely to be a total of about 3 weeks, from approx 27th June to 16th July. People can join us for 2 or 3 weeks as they choose, depending on where we are, flights etc. Cost continues to be about $2500 to $3500 dollar...s depending on length of stay, flight costs and if you do any additional tourism. The Vanuatu Government is establishing Disability Committees in different provincial areas, and we work with these committees to ensure that we provide what the community needs and wants.. this is true community based rehabilitation. We have worked with these committees in TAFEA (on the islands of Tanna and Aniwa), and MALAMPA (on the island of Malakula) and there is a newly formed committee in TORBA so we will visit one of the Banks islands in the north of the group. this year we will visit one (or 2) islands in Banks, and Malakula again to build on what we started there. We are looking for therapists, therapy students, podiatrist, nurses, special education teachers....????? Do you think you have skills to offer. If you think you'd like to be part of our team, please send me an email or message and I'll put you on our 'possibility" list. Please check out our website for more information (see link below), read the Volunteer information pack for 2015 which has a lot of useful information,

10.01.2022 Our 2018 team of excited therapy students and leaders is preparing for departure in July. We are still keen to have a physiotherapist and a speech pathologist join our team. We leave here on July 7th and return on July 22nd. Team members pay their own way, and $3000 should cover everything. This is an opportunity for an amazing life changing experience while helping people in need. Please pass this on to everyone so we can find people to join our team. Thanks.

10.01.2022 The final 3 members of our team have arrived. we are on Malakula after a flight on an 18 seater which flew very low for the flight. we hav a house in a village surrounded by roosters and dogs. Waiting this morning to start work. please continue to pray for theteam.

07.01.2022 Serious planning time now; We will soon all be in beautiful warm (hot) Vanuatu.

07.01.2022 After the Joint Therapy Outreach trip, Sace and I, Anthea, stayed on in Vanuatu with Marine Reach, YWAM on the "Pacific Hope" medical ship. On Ambrym, I asked the Health Centre Nurse if there was someone who couldn't walk or talk who was stuck at home. He introduced me to little Ben. Together with Robyn Cowan, an OT on our Marine Reach team we assembled and fitted the wheelchair from JTO that was kindly loaded onto the ship. Buildaid came to the rescue with these modifications to his hillside home. Grateful to God for this collaboration with three organisations. So beautiful!! Another life and community changed.

07.01.2022 We are on our penultimate day of the 2018 Vanuatu outreach trip. What a blessing it has been to once again work with the people here and contribute to the promotion of inclusion for people with disabilities. We also met some friends from previous trips.

06.01.2022 Our 2018 team of excited therapy students and leaders is preparing for departure in July. We are still keen to have a physiotherapist and a speech pathologist join our team. 05.01.2022 I have been in Vanuatu for just over 3 weeks with a wonderful team of therapists, therapy students, and support people from WA and Newcastle. We were so well looked after by our wonderful and inventive cook Jan, and handyman Pieter. Thanks to everyone for there very generous donation of time and expertise and love for the people we served. The Vanuatu people are just so wonderful, we love working with them. The story I most want to tell is getting our equipment of walking fr...ames and wheelchairs to a small island of Aniwa. We missed the boat (literally) and so Jared, of Marine Reach, who has supported us in Vanuatu, organised to air freight it to Tanna and then onwards to Aniwa on our small 18 seater plane if there was room. We arrive in Tanna and found our equipment there. There was much discussion and many prayers about our equipment getting on the plane with us. We were finally told that none of our equipment would fit! Not even one wheelchair or a walking stick! We were frantically discussing options, phoning contacts, talking to people to see what else could be arranged eg trucking across the island and shipping from the other side. I was then advised that ALL of our equipment would go on the plane. The issue of cost was confusing, from no cost, to someone had paid to 200,00vatu ($250). WE were deliberating if we could cover this cost, and how to pay, when Knox (works on the disability desk and had travelled with us on our two trips to the other islands) had contacted his boss, Sam, and the government of Vanuatu would pay the cost! How had the equipment been able to get on the plane. Well the pilot had been told of our equipment and a very small amount of Aus Aid items waiting for transport. The flight was scheduled to fly to Aniwa and onto Aneityum, but the pilot decided that our flight would just go to Aniwa, then back to Tanna and pick up those passengers and freight to Aneityum. Our freight was packed into the luggage holds and the passenger cabin. So a couple of unscheduled and unauthorised flights to get our equipment to Aniwa. Another miracle. Some of us aren't looking our best!! but you get the idea of how we travelled! See more

04.01.2022 Just finished 2 weeks with JTO joining forces with Marine Reach on the "Pacific Hope". Sailed up to isolated villages in Big Bay on the island of Santo in Vanuatu. Helped people with blindness, cerebral palsy and stroke, as well as frailty due to old age and lots of hard work!

03.01.2022 Working in the community on Tanna with a great team of dedicated people.

01.01.2022 Join us for a life changing short visit to Vanuatu in July. If you are a speech pathologist or physiotherapist we need you. Please let me know is you are interested in a 2 week visit to this amazing country to use your skills. Please share with all your contacts.

01.01.2022 Our second fantastic two week outreach in cooperation with YWAM's Marine Reach is finished and Sace and Anthea are home after six weeks in Vanuatu. Brilliant medical, therapy, dental and optical teams conducted over 1500 consults with many receiving help from several different professionals, enabling holistic care and creative problem solving. Laughs, smiles, prayer and love characterised these clinic days, with the ship crew that graciously and selflessly facilitated us to m...ake it all happen. Two "Wheelchairs for Kids" wheelchairs were provided by "Joint Therapy Outreach" for two smart boys, aged fifteen years and nine years old, both with cerebral palsy. Both families and their friends were trained in safer ways to lift and care for the boys and were shown exercises to stretch and strengthen muscles. In the second outreach we built a portable toilet seat! A team effort! Back care skills were taught to many with chronic back pain in small groups, along with a demo on the stage of a conference with an audience of 800! Back injury prevention strategies would be taken to many islands as delegates returned home. "Joint Therapy Outreach" also provided Marine Reach with adult wheelchairs, walking frames and sticks. These, along with knee splints from Heather Gibbs in outreach two, mobilised people who were housebound or struggling to get around. I was thrilled and so grateful to have three skilled and adventurous therapists join me for outreach two: two Occupational Therapists and one Physiotherapist. I was privileged to give one-on-one input and resources to 3 principals and 4 teachers on literacy and inclusion of people with disabilities in everyday life and hopefully, school! Our medical team rescued some "pikininies" whose lives hung in the balance, but who have survived and are doing well! Wheelchairs and frames were shipped to Tanna as a follow-up to the JTO July outreach there. We are grateful to God for enabling us to serve the gentle Nivan people over these two outreaches with such flexible, committed, skilled and fun teams.

01.01.2022 On our way to put together the first wheelchair which was for little Riki.
