23.01.2022 ED: In the opening minute I accidentally refer to Black Saturday. I meant to say the Black Summer fires, which occurred in late December early January. And I have noted this towards the end of the video. Thank you. VR. JUST over nine months ago on New Year's Eve, catastrophic bushfires decimated the Croajingolong National Park in Victoria's far south-east. From Bairnsdale to Genoa and Mallacoota, towns and communities, their people and the environment were terribly and deeply... affected, if not forever changed. But despite the overwhelm and trauma, this is a story of hope. You see, despite the pandemic, a lot of good has happened in nine months. In this episode of Join the Crew TV, Vanessa Rawson interviews Mariska Ascher, co-founder of the Mallacoota Fundraising Group. Mariska will talk about the rebuilding and revival of Mallacoota, as different people in the community have united to contribute their knowledge, skills and expertise. Mariska will talk about her 'behind the scenes work' at Mallacoota Fundraising Group, essentially a full time+ volunteer role. She will take us on the journey of relief and recovery and paint a picture of a more-than-resilient town: a community breathing life back into itself. Don't miss this episode of Join the Crew TV.
