15.01.2022 So, today is Jokers Comedy Club's 5th Birthday. On 27 May, 2015 we kicked off our Wednesday night, weekly comedy odyssey with our first headliner Jeff Green. They said a professional weekly comedy night couldn't be done in Hobart, but until COVID-19 scuttled us we managed to run 245 weekly shows with only one week off at Christmas. And that number doesn't even include special event or our roadshow trips. No mean feat considering we were flying acts in most weeks on Jetstar. ...Every show went ahead as planned. We could not have achieved this without the help of a bunch of extraordinarily brilliant people. Firstly, the incredible staff and board at The Polish Club, especially Chris, Aggie, Henry and Andrew who have supported us from the beginning with such wonderful enthusiasm. Our exceptional crew who kept it all running even when Jane and I were away; Daryl Peebles, Christine Bailey, Al Moss, Sally Rose McShane, Steve Mcnees, Annie Harvey, Ben Klingberg, Bronwyn Luzza, Julie Kay Hoier Dennis, Chelsea Smith and our awesome and unflappable techs Graeme Ewing, Graeme Beer and Glenn Warland. Of course there could have been no shows without the 250 local, interstate and international comedians who have graced the Jokers stage. Thank you to everyone for the laughs. And just as importantly THANK YOU to every single one of you who bought a ticket to any of our shows and came and laughed. Comedy is nothing without an audience. We have a huge number of regular punters who have supported us many coming every week. There's too many faithful to mention but a special commendation has to go to Ilana de Kock who has been at all but two of our shows!!!!! A miraculous achievement. THANK YOU! A personal special mention of thanks to my amazing wife Jane Christie-Johnston who didn't throw me out when I told her in April 2015 that I wanted to start a weekly comedy night. Her support and endless behind the scenes work made Jokers the success it has been. In lieu of a birthday show (We had a good one planned before all this happened) I'll post a video of all of the comedians we've hosted. It's a lot so we take no responsibility for any strokes induced. Massive thanks to our photographers, Derek Tickner, Matthew McKee, Daryl Peebles, Sally Rose McShane, Chelsea Smith and Jane Christie-Johnston.
