25.01.2022 I’ve been busy this week so missed this one, but come on mining! https://amp.theguardian.com//rio-tinto-expected-to-destroy Ancient Australian Heritage requires our Australian Protection. ... It is clear that the Aboriginal Heritage Act is completely flawed. That has been loudly exposed. The right thing to do here on your part is to either, 1. Give back any s18 consents you have and submit your application again. Ensure that Traditional owners are involved and the Elders from that group are consulted in the process. The ACMC was a disgrace. What would they know about cultural significance. (On a separate note, they need to be named and shamed). 2. Commit to waiting for the new legislation and committing to the process of seeking consent again. Same as above. When will the Inquiry or the media scrutinise the ACMC? National Indigenous Times don’t forget their part in all of this as box tickers for Government.

25.01.2022 If COVID-19 reaches our Pilbara Aboriginal Community because of the unbelievable decision to bring COVID19 incidents into the Pilbara for testing/ quarantine, look out!

25.01.2022 This has Rio Tinto ringtones. It sounds like, - We don’t regret the decision, but we apologise that our decision upset the Community. Seriously. ... Attempts to make this out to be anything other than clueless ignorance is stupid. The Community has responded about this issue and this statement basically ignores them. https://wwos.nine.com.au//03249549-4dbe-486a-a38b-f3791866

23.01.2022 How did this story escape us? First Rio Tinto. Now Woodside. When will it end? When? When we demand it by way of law reform. ... We have an obligation and responsibility as Australians to preserve and protect what is left of our ancient Australian heritage. Come on Australia. This place is in the process of being WORLD HERITAGE LISTED. Preserve and Protect Murujuga. 22.01.2022 Brilliant. Well done Taylah

22.01.2022 As part of your commitment to Respect & Relationships with Aboriginal People, please consider valuing the time of Aboriginal People when you want/ need to consult or engage. So many stakeholders want to consult and engage with Aboriginal People and can’t to their jobs without such consultation or engagement but fail to recognise that any persons time needs to be valued by way of remuneration. Most workplaces pay Consultants to support their consultation, engagement, or evaluation. If you are consulting or engaging with Aboriginal People to gain knowledge, or advice, they are also Consultants. Pay them for their knowledge and time.

21.01.2022 I grew up in Roebourne. I attended Roebourne Primary School. I loved my school and I enjoyed going every day. This is a photo of me in my last year of school - Year 7. I was about to embark on an amazing journey that would eventually bring me home in 2012 (High School, University, and a Career in the law). After more than 20 years of our Community hearing about new schools being built all around us, we always asked for when it would be our turn. This year, we have been promi...sed that it is our turn. This post is for the school. I have been busy prioritising other matters over the past 8 years since coming home and not had any time to give to support this school. We tried with my now very popular and respected Cultural Learning Workshop as an opportunity for me to begin working with the school but your Cultural experts didn’t want that to happen. So it didn’t. Some schools and individuals are not ready for my learning and that is ok. So now I make a commitment to be involved in the consultation process for the new school. I will also commit my time and energy to learning about how the school is going and identify ways I can help. I’ll be speaking with everyone. Of course this includes having to call out any person/s or behaviours if asked to, I will do that. Roebourne Primary was an amazing School when I went there. It was the first place that I access western educational learning. Since then, I have gained tertiary qualifications in law, diploma in law, executive level training in management, leadership, and business, and continue to learn through other options. If anyone in our Roebourne Community would like to reach out to me to talk about the school, please private message me on here or email me on [email protected] #RoebourneProud #WestNgarlumaNgurinPeople

15.01.2022 I used to love this exhibition when I worked for Rio Tinto 2006-2009. But I can’t even bring myself to look or step into Central Park. It should be called Memories of Our Country. How embarrassing for the artists to be so unaware of the unauthentic gesture that this is. Many of these artists are well renowned and yet they live in social housing and are on welfare. The art groups do nothing to lift them out of this truth. Just use them like this mining company uses them! My wirdart (spirit) would not be ok walking into this exhibition after what Rio has done and the truth that has emerged from the Inquiry.

15.01.2022 Love this artist. One day I’ll make the trip to the gallery. Beautiful artworks. When I worked as a Native Title Lawyer for the KLC, I had the opportunity to work with and learn from Gooniyandi people.

13.01.2022 I’ve had two moments in my life when I thought, omg, imagine this. The first was in 2009 when I met American Indians part of a Tribal Community that had a Treaty in place since the 1800s and governed 32,000 acres of their land as their own country. Their own government, schools, police, laws, court system and policies. They had sovereign title to these lands. It was a shock to my world. I remember thinking, did I wake up 200 years into the future? How is this possible?... The second time was in 2010 when I watched a movie called, Babakiueria. A flip of the script. If you have been following me for some time and enjoy my posts, I recommend this film. It’s so important in the context of where we are as a country and the need for Australians to recognise, respect, and support, Aboriginal specific matters to be placed in Aboriginal hands. https://youtu.be/NqcFg4z6EYY

13.01.2022 If you are a parent with school aged children, have you ever asked these three questions of your school, 1. Does the school embrace Aboriginal Cultures and if so, how? 2. Do all teachers complete cultural awareness training? If not, why not? 3. Does the school support all students to engage in Aboriginal cultural activities? If yes, what are those activities? If no, why not? ... Ask the questions. A key part of #Reconciliation is supporting/ embedding respect for #Aboriginal #Cultures in our mainstream education institutions.

13.01.2022 It’s really disheartening to listen to people living in the Pilbara express racism. These people live in regions that generates wealth to provide them and others with jobs and supports the State and National Governments. These people live on stolen lands that generate wealth for everyone but the original owners. These people are provided with Cultural Awareness Training by their employers (apparently) but they still don’t respect Aboriginal people or hold any understandings o...f cultural differences, the impact of colonisation, the impacts of ongoing grief and loss (the reality of the gap), the challenges of living and walking in two worlds, the challenges of being born into disadvantage, the challenges of being negatively stereotyped and treated according to that stereotype, the challenges of racism and discrimination,.... Whoever is delivering Cultural Awareness Training to these towns that are still operating under segregation and hold intolerable ignorance, you are not doing your job! #Stop #ticking #boxes for companies and Governments and deliver truths, tools, and respect. Empower relationships. Any person or workplace or Community that is not ready for Truth, is not ready for Reconciliation. To be clear, I do not deliver my training to the mining industry. Apparently they don’t need it. They know how to do Reconciliation. Just ask Rio Tinto. One of the biggest employers on my old people’s country, and they have completely ignored my training for 5 years. The only Cultural Education provider that I back, support, and endorse is Clinton Walker.

13.01.2022 That seals it. I’m voting #Labor! Thank you for your Strength and Leadership Linda Burney

13.01.2022 When seeking to employ Aboriginal people for Aboriginal specific jobs, please make sure you place value on our lived experiences as an Aboriginal person, our Community Knowledge, our Family Knowledge, our Cultural Knowledge, and our Relationships with Aboriginal people, organisations, Communities, and businesses. That means monetary value. Just like you value that piece of paper from the mainstream western education systems. Also recognise that we don’t just look after our n...ucleus family. We support our extended family. Financially. A $100k job might be attractive to a person that has themselves, a partner, and kids to take care of, but it’s not much when you also have brothers, sisters, aunties, uncles, parents, grandparents, and kids (including nieces and nephews) to also look after. An Aboriginal Cultural lens is badly needed in all areas of Aboriginal Affairs including employment.

13.01.2022 It’s completely disgusting. These funds are needed on the ground by our Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations. A question? Where are all the Clontarf graduates today? The Alumni? Did the program help them to finish year 12, get into uni, or get a job? Either shows how disconnected Ken Wyatt is or how he has nothing to do with the allocation of funding. Just a puppet. ... Housing is critical. Health is critical. Employment is critical. Come on. Schools are funded to deliver education. Scholarships are available for university. I want to see questions asked about this by our Indigenous Senators in Budget Estimates Linda Burney Patrick Dodson Senator Malarndirri McCarthy - Northern Territory Clontarf? https://www.theguardian.com//aboriginal-leaders-criticise-

All mining companies, including Rio Tinto, should undertake an independent review of all agreements with traditional owners and remove any gag clauses or restrictions in existing agreements; 4. 10.01.2022 Always Was Always Will Be What does this mean? To me, it means I am here. It means that my connection is not broken because my family survived. Our people have survived. We are here. ... The truth is that this country tried to destroy our connection and our cultures. No matter what was done in the past, what is done today, or what is done tomorrow, no one can deny who I am. My bloodline connects me to these lands of my old people. Always has. Always will. My spirit guides me through life and empowers my strength and resilience. My Spirit comes from the lands of my old people. Today, I pay my respect, pride, and gratitude to my old people. They survived so that I could be here today. They are part of who I am. Always. #PrideAndGratitude

09.01.2022 When I was a kid at Roebourne Primary School, I wanted to be a Teacher. I became a Lawyer. I decided to end my legal career and begin an independent journey in business in 2013. Now, through my business Aboriginal Insights, I teach. I enjoy teaching and being part of the learning journey of Australians.

09.01.2022 Wow. Love this artist. One day I’ll visit this artist to buy a piece of their Stunning art. I have a small non-cultural connection to Gooniyandi. I worked on their native title claim in 2009/10. Beautiful old people with strong cultural knowledge and connections. It would be great to get a small piece of cultural art from each of the groups I worked with in the Kimberley.

09.01.2022 I’ve been a Cultural Education Trainer for 9 years. Four years of that involved delivery of Traditional Owner specific Cultural Awareness Training. This is the main type of training that is delivered in WA and specifically the Pilbara region of WA. However, for the past 5 years, I have been delivering Cultural Foundations Cultural Awareness Training that is focussed on sharing an Engagement model and lessons that are essential to Reconciliation and Closing the Gaps. My work...shop is not Traditional Owner specific which means it applies to all workplaces. My workshop is also unique to Aboriginal Insights which means that my content is not delivered by any other Cultural Education Provider in the country. If you are committed to Cultural Education, don’t dismiss my learning as knowledge you think you have no matter how long you have been involved in working with Aboriginal people. My commitment is to empower respect and relationships through sharing lessons and tools that are my own lessons and my own tools. I don’t talk about other peoples work or training. I offer three education options, 1. Workshop. 2. Book. 3. Online Learning Course. Walk with me. I would be happy to walk with you. https://aboriginalinsights.com.au/

09.01.2022 Please be sure to stop by the #Roebourne basketball courts on your way to work for great coffee by Uncle Kendall. Brilliant service by the way.

08.01.2022 Great news for businesses and anyone seeking work.

08.01.2022 What kind of Political Leadership do we have? This kind! These are one of those moments that knock me and I ask myself, Is what I do worth it? Are we being heard? Do people care? Am I wasting my bloody time? Disgusted and upset that this has to even be voted on. It should be a given. This is our Australian Government.

08.01.2022 A commitment to learning about cultural differences relating to Aboriginal Peoples (plural) provides workplaces with an understanding of how they are perceived as opposed to how the workplace believes they are perceived. Many workplaces engage with Aboriginal peoples using a mainstream western approach. Without a Cultural Lens. This results in a disconnect between how a workplace intends to be perceived and actual perception. If we don’t recognise and learn about cultural d...ifferences we miss out on learning the different ways that our actions are perceived. Want to learn more. Walk with me via my Aboriginal Insights cultural education products, 1. Workshop - Cultural Foundations for Workplaces, Empowering Respect & Relationships 2. Book - Essential Aboriginal Insights, a Guide for Anyone Involved in Closing Gaps in Australia 3. Online Learning Course - Cultural Awareness 101 for all Australian workplaces https://lnkd.in/gNzVXq9 What I offer is unique to my personal and professional journey. My focus is to support and empower respectful relationships. Respect and Relationships is required for successful outcomes. To Close the Gaps. To reach that aspirational place of Reconciliation.

07.01.2022 Anyone over in #CoralBay or #Exmouth? Here are some great Christmas gift ideas.

07.01.2022 Closing the Gaps in Education. I am writing the content for a new online learning course that will be released in the new year. Education has been essential to my personal self-determination. I have come to realise that my success in education has much to do with my family’s journey and first access to education. ... To support and empower Aboriginal students in education, please ensure you understand the context to the gaps. That means learning about the first time that education was accessible to Aboriginal people in your State and Territory; and the environment of those rights (legalised racism and discrimination). Learn the educational journey of your students families. The insight will be profound. You will then understand privilege in the context of education. Learn what the highest level of education is for the students family. Not just the parents. The family authorities. Ask the question of the family authorities? Do they value education? If not, why not? If not, what do they value instead? How can education support that family’s values in today’s society? How does your school support an Aboriginal student to live and walk in two worlds?

07.01.2022 If the Government wanted to support an organisation that supports educational outcomes for Aboriginal students (both male and female), then they should have supported the The Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation . The best education program in this country. I know this for a fact because I am a product of this program. Thousands of us are succeeding around the country because of this program.

06.01.2022 Brilliant Aboriginal languages initiative. Will you commit to learning 5 words of the traditional owner language for where you live and work? How? Here you go. ... https://50words.online/

05.01.2022 Last night, I attended my beautiful Aunty’s birthday. It’s not often that we get to come together for a special occasion that is a 60TH BIRTHDAY. I got to take my Mum and Daughter, Lucy. A night surrounded by so much family and seeing all of the young ones so happy filled my cup to the top. My spirit is strong and happy. There are so many truths in this country that gets Aboriginal people feeling disappointed and deflated. Many decide to give up on Reconciliation. There has ...been many recent big events/ incidents that has really hurt us (Black Lives Matter, destruction of ancient heritage during Reconciliation week, the Inquiry into the Destruction of Juukan Gorge, Netball Australia’s tokenism- to name a couple). Going home and/or family time is how I stay on course with the role I have been given. My belief is that I walk the path (with full responsibility and acceptance) that was decided by my old people. In terms of Indigenous Employment it is important for employers to recognise the need for their Indigenous staff to spend time at home and with family, especially if their job takes them away from both.

05.01.2022 As part of my Cultural Education business journey, I have developed definitions relating to the term, Aboriginal Community. If we don’t offer definitions, it means what it means to an individual, workplace, or sector, which will generally be influenced by dominant stereotypes. I recognise two types of Aboriginal Communities.... Type 1 is LOCATION BASED and sits within the ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY SYSTEM. This Aboriginal Community is key to Relationships and Respect in the context of Reconciliation commitments. Type 2 is profession or workplace sector based and sits within the MAINSTREAM WESTERN SYSTEM. This Aboriginal Community is key to Opportunities in the context of Reconciliation commitments. When it comes to Advisory or Representation it is important to recognise both types. That means both types being represented. Most workplaces only recognise or engage with the Type 2 Aboriginal Community There is an Aboriginal Community System in every location in this country. The system is informed by three components: 1. Traditional Owner Culture 2. Regional System that the Traditional Owner Culture is or was part of 3. Impact of Colonisation The third component determines how strong the system is in comparison to the Mainstream Western System Want to learn more? #WalkWithMe www.aboriginalinsights.com.au

04.01.2022 A commitment to Reconciliation requires a commitment to Truths. There is no Reconciliation without Truths. Truths include (but are not limited to): 1. History. The laws and policies of our country that were based on White Australia Policies. By understanding this truth, you will understand the context to the gaps that exist in this country. You will also understand the common barrier of mistrust. You will understand how recent legal racism and discrimination was in our c...ountry. You will understand survival in spite of these laws and policies. 2. Stereotypes. Our sectors/ professions generally carry a stereotype based on the experiences of Aboriginal people with our sector/ profession in the context of history. We cannot ignore this. We must recognise and respect this truth. The only way to break this stereotype is two easy steps. (1) Listen. (2) Build Rapport. 3. Present. The truth of the present existence of racism and discrimination. Recognising that an impact of our past attitudes is that these attitudes are still here. Within our workplaces, Communities, and families. Once we recognise this. We respond to it with education. We are all products of our families, including our families attitudes, values, and experiences. 4. Privilege. ... #WalkWithMe

You are part of our Community and many of you are connected to our families. To my Torres Strait Islander family, friends. and in-laws, happy NAIDOC week. I love and respect that you continue with your culture in your second home, the Pilbara.
