25.01.2022 I've been working on the images of the baby colt I met last week on the day he was born. This photo shows a beautiful connection, but it's a great example of why I shoot client sessions at the end of the day in the golden hour before sunset. This image was taken just before midday when the sun is high in the sky and is not a flattering time to photograph outdoors unless you can place your subject in open shade or use off-camera lighting to even out the shadows and highlight...s. Of course when working with a new mumma horse and her foal, I need to work around them as quietly and discreetly as possible so as not to startle them, so neither of those solutions were possible in this situation. The light in the earlier photo I shared last week was that magic golden hour light which makes all the difference. Regardless, I couldn't wait to meet him and I'm glad I didn't miss this moment!
22.01.2022 Today is Love your Pet day and I have so much love for this little darling Daisy. Daisy isn't a pet though, she's our daughter... well one of two daughters and two sons. No, I'm haven't gone crazy. It's simple... our dogs are not pets, they are our family. Do you consider your pets as family? Do you like to call them pets? I'd love to hear what you think!... Daisy is 15 on 31 May and still doing really well despite her medical issues. I truly believe that living on the farm is playing a big part in her health staying great. Every morning she's up at the crack of dawn singing the song of her people and heading off to work on her very important job of Chief Rat/Mouse Catcher. She does have an apprentice in training in the way of Henry, and she's even recruited Luna as the "Chief Spotter" team member and general cheer leader. We still have torrential rain here this morning. Yesterday we went for a walk when there was a break in the weather which is when I took this photo, just as some late afternoon sun broke through. We had about 30 minutes of fun, and then, the rain came bucketing down yet again! Happy Saturday
21.01.2022 Just a couple of stinky farm dogs hanging out in my rustic farm shed studio testing out my latest addition of an oaten hay bale. I'm getting ready to add studio sessions to our farm photography experience very soon! I never knew there would be so much choice when choosing a bale of hay
13.01.2022 Ollie Ollie had a terrific time at his farm photography experience here on the farm, his golden locks blowing in the breeze. He also got to spend an awesome weekend away with his family on our beautiful Barrington Coast at Coomba Park on Lake Wallis in the Great Lakes region ... Well worth checking out if you want to escape the rat-race for a few days!
09.01.2022 Mini the Moocher ... looking very over being an expectant Mum! <3 I took this photo last week and very early this morning Mini gave birth to her little filly who will be known (I believe) as Milly. I'm heading out tomorrow to meet little Milly and hopefully introduce you to her tomorrow night. When I was a kid my bedroom walls were plastered with posters of horses (before I became a teenager and they were then plastered with band posters). I grew up in Kensington where there ...were many stables and I used to stare into the windows of Brighton Saddlery every time I walked past, wishing I had a horse of my own. I guess being surrounded by horses in our new community is the next best thing to having a horse or two of our own Are you a horse lover? Do you have a horse? Did you have the same childhood dream? I'd love to hear all about it!
08.01.2022 I haven't had a chance to catch up with baby filly Milly yet, so in the meantime, here's a toddler Alpaca chilling out to the last rays of the day. His name is Panda and I got to hang out with him and all his Alpaca friends and family at Topi Open Range this week. Let me know in the comments if you would like to see more Alpacas? They are such intriguing animals
07.01.2022 Our handsome little Harvey who is sooo good looking even with his scar ... created by a much younger Daisy when she was fierce and feisty. Both are now seniors and life is so much less dramatic! Harvey has always had the utmost respect for his sisters from other misters, so was a bit taken aback when Daisy took a quick swipe and just missed his eye. The fur has never grown back fully but I think it adds to his character don't you think?... Oh and by the way, don't you just love the little swirl of fur on his chest?!
07.01.2022 It's bucketing down yet again here at the farm... nice weather for ducks And yes, Dilly and Pippie Longstocking are just sitting there soaking it all in #duckweather
05.01.2022 If you've followed my work over the last ten years you may find this face familiar. This is my gorgeous great-niece Lizzy who graced many of my animal shelter adoption portraits. Lizzy has a natural gift with animals and it truly shows in all the photos I have taken of her. One of the photos went viral around the world at the time (see comments for the image). Last month Lizzy, along with the rest of the family, came up to our farm for a family photo session. This is one of m...y absolute favourite photos from the day and I thought I'd share it tonight and say a big thank you to Lizzy for helping me all those times, even on the coldest and darkest of winter days. Huge thanks too to Lizzy's Mum Cass and sis Tara for helping out too. I'm not known for my people photography, but soon I'll be launching "Dogs and their family" sessions. No dog, no family session booking... must have a dog
03.01.2022 New beginnings... who else breathed a sigh of relief this morning? And to make the news even better, Major is the very first rescue dog to be moving to The White House! https://www.tmz.com//joe-biden-german-shepherd-major-firs/
02.01.2022 Knuckles This little lady is Knuckles and she visited the farm with her sister Peggy back in early October. You may have read my post honouring darling Peggy who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. Knuckles is missing her big sister and adjusting to life without her. She is very fortunate to have not just one, but two loving families, who are giving her lots of love through these difficult times.... The girls had a lovely afternoon on the farm, and this photo of Knuckles was taken just before they headed back to the big smoke of Sydney, catching the lovely light of the late spring afternoon. I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to meet them both and provide their families with beautiful artwork to treasure for years to come. Life is short. Seize and cherish every day.
01.01.2022 Honouring Mya Three years ago, I met a dog name Mya. She was an integral part of the Samoyed trio who were incredibly loved and cherished family members of Stephanie. They were Max, Mia and Mya. Our world lost Max in October 2019, just a year after their photo session. You’ll find a tribute to Max in the comments.... Stephanie and her husband relocated back to the UK at the end of 2019 taking their two cherished remaining Samoyeds with them, Mia and Mya. Stephanie and I have kept in touch and my heart lit up every time I’d see photos of them on my Facebook feed enjoying their new life and adventures in the UK, and mostly with Mia and Mya by their sides. As Mya wasn’t as mobile in her older age due to arthritis creeping in, she was sported around in her very own Samoyed mobile, aka doggy pram. Mya was a puppy farm survivor with no teeth from chewing on cage bars, cruelly debarked and abandoned when she was no longer making money. Nobody wanted her because she was 5 years old, with not much fur and skinny as a rake. Thankfully she was fostered by Stephanie who could see she had that spark. Mya was so vulnerable yet so loving. She grabbed Stephanie’s heart from the moment she met her and inevitably became a foster failure. Stephanie just knew she had to adopt her, telling her husband, it is dog or divorce. I think a lot of us can relate to that! From then on, Mya’s life was full of love and food, and wonderful adventures. According to Stephanie, Mya really was the most perfect girl, wanting nothing but love. More recently Mya was diagnosed with dementia just like Max. Mia declined suddenly and was given her wings by the vet in her home with her loving Mum and Dad right there with her. Stephanie is understandably devastated right now, and as we all know, it will take time for the pain to ease a little. I’m just so glad I was able to provide some beautiful memories to help Mya, and Max, live on in their hearts.
