25.01.2022 Out and about today in the Seaforth area. (Paradise) Enjoyed chatting with the CWA ladies and meeting lots of locals. My lovely wife and biggest supporter Lucy picked up a recipe book from these ladies. Looking forward to some yummy slices.

25.01.2022 On the campaign trail again, but this time in Lucy's old stomping ground (she grew up at the Finch Hatton Gorge). First stop morning tea at Coffee Devine on the Mackay-Eungella Road at Pinnacle. A truly beautiful place nestled amongst cane fields and I might add Lucy remembers attending Church here on Sunday's. Take the time to make the trip and enjoy a yummy coffee and delicious food. You won't be disappointed. Next stop Eungella.

24.01.2022 The saga continues and this is further very interesting reading. Why couldn't we have been told the truth, right from the start?

22.01.2022 What exciting weather we are having, but unfortunately there wasn't too much excitement to be had at Harrup Park this afternoon for the grand old game. I'm doubly disappointed that I didn't get to sing the great Lions club song. The ticket to the game was a birthday present given to me by my lovely daughter. The rain will still be falling tomorrow and you will find me at the Showgrounds for the pre-poll voting so it was good practise being out in the rain anyway. Please remember when voting for the Councillors you are required to vote 1 to 10. I will be handing out a how-to-vote card. It has been approved for 10 independent candidates who have got together to save almost half a million pieces of paper which means we haven't wasted our money, so we won't waste yours. If you have any questions about voting, please ask.

20.01.2022 Today I was out and about putting up election signs and I drove in behind the stadium to look at our museum. Yes we do have one, but unfortunately it's only open on Thursdays and the first Sunday of each month. More on this to come! While I was there I searched and found some of my past heritage as well. There it is in the picture: VH-PCN a Piper Warrior. I learnt to fly in this aeroplane back in 1981 under the guiding hand of Mr Rex Laver of Aviation Training and Transport. He was a WWII veteran, a wonderful man, and a great instructor. I had always wanted to learn to fly and when the opportunity came, I was grateful to take it. In the process I discovered that Mackay and surrounds look even more spectacular from the air. I am really happy to know that Papa Charlie November is still "clear for take off" in the care of Mackay Aero Club

20.01.2022 Who remembers this? The pre-cyclone season clean up which we don't have here anymore. But wait this photograph was taken at Greenslopes only a few kilometres from the centre of the city in Brisbane. Many people in Mackay like to pretend we are a big city, but yet here is the real thing in a real big city. In Brisbane, these clean ups occur on a rotating basis through all suburbs every two years. So? Who thinks it would be a good idea to reinstitute this kerb side clean up, bearing in mind that not everybody owns a utility or a trailer or has ready access to them.

19.01.2022 There is a lot of talk about divided and undivided Councils. The fact of the matter is, we are an undivided Council and that can't change until 2019 so we all have to choose 10 people we want to vote for on 19 March 2016. Just like any election, we have to do our own research and make our own decision about who to vote for. I have compiled a list of the 37 candidates' Facebook pages/websites to start you off. At least now you can put a face to nearly every candidate's name. h...Continue reading

18.01.2022 On the campaign trail, on the way back from Sarina, we stopped at one of our favourite spots, which you may recognise as the Lagoons Cafe at the Botanic Gardens. You will often see us here on a Sunday morning after our walk from our shop in the City Centre. The coffee is always excellent and the meals are delicious.

17.01.2022 This evening in the City Heart I attended a forum hosted by The Services Union at which union members and other interested parties could attend to learn the background on why Council employees have not been able to secure an Enterprise Agreement since 2013. For the record, I have promised not to accept any pay increases awarded to Councillors during the next four year term (if elected). One of my prime motivations for standing at this election is to rectify the present undesi...rable state of relations between the employees, some elements of management, and the elected Council. Morale is at an all time low and I heard the Mayor state recently that there had been a cultural change at the Council. This change has not been for the better, but has fostered an us and them mentality which is most unhealthy. When I was an Industrial Inspector, I learnt in almost 20 years work, that the overriding principle in any negotiations should be to arrive at a fair outcome. That is what I stand for on this issue. If you are a Council employee, feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about my position on this matter. I will treat any communication in the strictest confidence: [email protected] See more

17.01.2022 And then to Porters for lunch.

12.01.2022 Sunday just gone, Lucy and I went for one of our regular beach walks and ended up at the swimming "enclosure" at Bucasia. Oops. This doesn't actually fit a dictionary definition of the word enclosure because something is missing. Actually a few things are missing which brought to mind the stories I heard when I first arrived in Mackay about this great event that used to happen at Bucasia. Namely the rewiring of the swimming enclosure. I always remember this was a classic exam...ple of community participation in creating something of value and usefulness for the local area. I recently spoke with Mr Doug Petersen who reminded me of the tragic circumstances leading to the construction of the original enclosure. These lessons of history should never be forgotten. So I'm all for Council engaging with the Bucasia community to establish whether this community spirit of the past can be rekindled and maybe the youth of the area would re gage with the beach on a more regular basis and wouldn't it be wonderful if tourists came to visit this beautiful beach. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. See more

12.01.2022 Done my voting. Don't forget you can pre-poll at the Showgrounds till 5 today and Friday 9 till 6. come and say hello.

11.01.2022 And then delivering my flyers in West Mackay.

10.01.2022 Here is one of my signs in Shakespeare St. Who has seen them? I still have a few signs which I would like to put up so if anyone has a prominent property and would be kind enough to let me put a sign there, I would appreciate you letting me know. Thanks

10.01.2022 Guess where we are? Of course you've guessed correctly. I was told sometime ago that many Councils along the Qld Coast actively support hang gliding. The launching ramp is clearly still here but there were no hang gliders to be seen. I like to check my facts and I have some, but if anyone out there knows anything one way or the other about this sport, and why it doesn't appear to be happening, I would really appreciate your comments, thanks. It was good to meet Tess at the Chalet. It is a terrific place.

10.01.2022 I believe our present Council have no imagination in that they did not foresee the destruction of the Horizons Community Art project in Victoria St would result in tourists no longer coming to the city centre. At the same time they exhorted us in their ineffective marketing campaign to imagine more. Their only solution is to rebuild a building and move the Library there in the hope that it will bring some more foot traffic into the city centre. Well I have imagined more a...nd have created a new and different solution to this final mess left to us by this inept Council. Check the pictures which acknowledge the generosity of the Denny family by renaming the existing Library and illustrate how our new regional Museum could appear. I particularly like the font style of the word Museum as displayed on the roof of the reconstructed Dome. Surely tourists would be interested in visiting our Museum to learn more about us, our interesting history, and our region. Maybe the Museum could incorporate pictures of how Victoria St looked before the wreck-ovation took place to remind us of the generosity of spirit our community showed in creating the Horizons Art project. 08.01.2022 Check out my first video. I hope it is more interesting than the (old) "slide nights." Please let me know if you would like to see more and if you do, please share it. Thanks.

04.01.2022 We were in the area, so we had to stop at The Lagoons Cafe for an iced coffee!

03.01.2022 I am spending some time here in Brisbane with my youngest son and visiting my Mum and other family members. Yesterday I started the day at this beautiful Church, Little Flower Church, Kedron. As I have said before families are an essential part of our communities whether they are near or far. I believe it is vital to keep in touch with those who are near and dear to us and this extends to our friends, neighbours and workmates. So if there is someone you haven't contacted for a while, pick up the phone to give them a call or drop in and say hello. You never know your call or visit might be just the thing that is needed by someone who is feeling down.

02.01.2022 A very big thank you to Mr Bob Hollis for his very kind words. I feel humbled by his endorsement and if elected I will maintain my standards and hopefully not disappoint anyone.

01.01.2022 I am amazed to discover how little one can say in one minute, but for the record this is what I said at the Daily Mercury Election Forum: My vision is for a Community driven Council. One that embraces its’ workforce as the vital link between us and our Council.... Some of my policy ideas include using the existing Shire Hall at Mirani and Sarina for community council meetings three or four times a year each. As a priority, to engage with the stakeholders to provide decent facilities for bus travellers and for the ‘grey nomads’ in their RVs who are presently by-passing our City My personal commitment to the community is to accept no pay increase for the term of the Council. I am an ideas person and a better listener than a speaker." So together with a number of other issues which you can find on my Facebook page and Website http://www.jondillon.com.au I hope you find me worthy to vote for. Please vote1 Jon Dillon for a Community Driven Council. Please share with your friends. Thank you to each and everyone of you for all your support over the last few weeks. I've enjoyed meeting and chatting with you all. Thanks Jon
