24.01.2022 Well the mighty Redlands old devils started their season with a home match against Holland park this evening. Third week of the season and only Redlands first game. The game didn’t start so well for the old devils who regularly gave the ball away whilst making seemingly regulation passes. Much of this was due to holding on to the ball a fraction too long allowing the angles to be closed down but also due to poor decision making. It was not long possibly 5 minutes before the h...awks danger man picked after the ball after Redlands again gave the ball away cheaply and drove at the devils defence. He was given some space and used his dynamic drive to conjure enough space to smash home a good finish past the outstretched Les. The first half continued in very much the same manner until after Anthony was brought down in the box, John Weatherby stepped up confidently to take the spot kick. Let’s just say for those of you that know Jayson Gabler and his penalties, it was very much in that vain. Straight down the middle at the keeper and bouncing half a dozen times. I guess at least it was on target. The second half started much better and the old devils had much of the ball and dominating in most parts of the park. Chances came and chances went with frustration starting to kick in. Redlands and John Weatherby finally took one of those chances with a fantastic left finish low to the keepers left from outside the box. The old devils pressed on and had many chances but were unable to capitalise and drive their advantage home, this was not helped when Paul Grugan was given a 10 minute sinbin for some ref abuse I believe. The reds held on and then had the opposition reduced for a poor challenge. There were plenty of tasty challenges which also nearly saw Stuey given ten for checking the condition of an opposition players wind pipe. The boys played ok second half but nearly conceded in the last minute as the hawks player got some space in the box only for his low shot to saved well by Les. Whistle then went leaving the match at a 1 all draw. See more
21.01.2022 Well the mighty Redlands old devils travelled away to taringa for an early 630 kick off. The team came away with 5-2 win which really didn’t show the dominance the reds had. Many chances wasted I front of goal. Goals came from Brian with two, should’ve had 6. Jonesy got two with Anthony LaRosa also picking up a goal.
19.01.2022 Well here it is for those who haven’t seen it the winner.
19.01.2022 Well the mighty Redland old devils had their end of season presentation today. Plenty of beers, plenty of banter and a good time had. Not all could make it but a good time had considering the weather. The awards this year were taken out by one of our newest players. Even though Les didn’t known what day it was and the fact he also didn’t know he’d won both trophies in the same year 10 years ago. So our new winner of both coaches player and players player was Paul Grugan. A great performance in his first year. Maybe we dropped the premiership for the first year in four it was his goal that helped seal the teams first grand final win in 10 years. Thanks guys for another great year. Onward and upwards.
15.01.2022 Had another great day at the old devils end of season bbq. A few faces that were not there and missed. As for the trophy winners 50% were well deserved. Charlie picked up the players player deservedly and Ian got the coaches player. You decide. Just kidding. Both players were deserving and contributed so much to the team this season to make it three convincing premierships in a row.
13.01.2022 Well here they are minus a couple of injured players. The over 35 division one premiers for the third straight year. The mighty Redlands old devils.
12.01.2022 Well the mighty Redlands Old Devils took part in yet another grand final this evening hoping to finally end their poor run of results at the big dance. The Devils started slowly but were not really troubled by their opponents Brisbane City. The reds had a few half chances as the half went on and continued to keep city from getting in to dangerous positions by working hard at keeping their shape and pinching plenty of ball from them in the midfield. The reds continued to work ...hard and finally created a great opportunity for John Weatherby who turned back inside on to his left foot and buried the chance past the city keeper. Half time came and the reds came out in the second half leading and continued to harass and frustrate the opposition whilst at times creating a half chance. It was part way through the second half when a combination of a poor backpass from Ian and the fact Les doesn't like to move far from his goal line saw the city striker nip in and the ball past Les toward the goal, Paul Hoelscher made a great run and attempted to clear the ball but only managed to hit the post with the ball then crossing the line. 1-1 Redlands continued to push for a winner in normal time with Jonesy having a long range shot go just wide and John Weatherby having another left foot shot with this one skying over the bar. The old devils were then robbed of a penalty with about 10 minutes to go when Šime was dragged down in the box. The linesman flagged for the penalty and the cheating ref twice looked at the linesman and disregarded his advice, to make things worse city broke and went down the other end and nearly broke the devils hearts. not long after this the reds broke again down the right wing and through some nice play saw Kev Rigby played in behind the defence who played a beautiful ball low and hard across the box for Paul Grugan to tap in at the back post. 2-1 There was only 4 minutes left on the clock at this stage and as time ticked down the reds saw themselves win a corner with seconds left. The cross came in and was headed away by the defence towards Spanner who controlled and then shot as the whistle went to end the game. His shot flew through the box full of players and then hit the back of the net. I think we can maybe give it to him.....naaaah end score 2-1. On behalf of all of the team I would like to thank all of the support we have had from our families tonight and throughout the year. It is an amazing feeling to win the GF after having lost 6 over the years, pity we let the league slip but gives us something to fight for next year. Onwards and Upwards.
12.01.2022 Well the mighty Redlands old devils played their semi final tonight against fourth place side lions after another year of winning the league, this time by 11 points. The game got under way considerably late due to not being to get the officials at the game for some time. The game was a real arm wrestle with both teams working hard defensively and not creating much going forward. Half time came with the score nil all and neither side with any clear opportunities. The second ha...lf started much the same with both teams working hard and giving very little away. As the game went on it appeared that Redlands had the legs on their opposition and chances became more frequent. Great work from the team and a beautiful cross from Anthony found Charlie at the far post who headed square to find Stuey for the tap in to make the game 1-0. Not long after the first goal Redlands again attacked and Stuey was put through one on one with the 6 foot 8 goalkeeper and somehow after many attempts of a chip during season against much shorter keepers that failed, this time he somehow got it up and over the keeper from inside the box to make it 2-0 with about 15 to go. The team then held on to complete a 2-0 win and give themselves another opportunity to take out the grand final after convincingly winning the league for the last three years. The boys take on taringa next week after they got past a depleted Holland Park side 4-1. See more

05.01.2022 Well I know it’s been quite a while but I’m back with the match report. The mighty Redlands old devils had a slowish start to the season after only having one practice match in the 9 weeks leading up to the season start. They started with a loss a draw and now 3 wins in the trot to get them back in the groove. Tonight the devils played away to long time rivals and quality side East’s. The game started well and Redlands made several raids on the East’s goal but with nothing t...o show. All boys were working hard and went forward well but just couldn’t seem to find the final pass or a quality finish. Mid way through the first half the refs made a break seeing Grugs break free with the keeper slightly off the line and in retreat. He took an early shot hoping to chip the keeper but barely got the ball to waist height. Fortunately for Grugs as the keeper was backtracking he got his studs caught in the grass and fell back and banged his head allowing the ball to chip him despite being only 3 feet off the ground. After speaking to Grugs after the game he informed me that the keeper was bamboozled by the movement and swerve of the strike. The rest of the half saw Redlands again make but not take chances leading inevitably to East’s scoring from their one real chance of the half 10 seconds before halftime with a good first time finish at the near post. The old devils picked up where they started after the break and again chances were wasted, mostly by Brett who managed to blast balls high and wide. It must’ve been a relief to him when first of all he got to keep Sime away from blasting another free kick over the bar and then stepped up to curl the ball around the wall and in to the top right corner to make the score 2-1. The rest of the game saw the reds had several other decent chances and shutting down most East’s attacking opportunities to hold on for a well deserved victory to continue the teams movement back up the table. A great effort was put in up front by Charlie and Brett holding the ball up as well as solid games from the defence and plenty of running and endeavour from the midfield. See more
03.01.2022 Well a tough old game last night. We came away with a hard fought 2 all draw on a bumpy old pitch at Holland Park.
03.01.2022 Tonight the mighty Redland old Devils travelled away to play lions. The game got underway with the devils quite short on numbers due to some injuries and due to playing this lions side there was always the chance of a few more due to a few of them being quite the grub. The first 5-10 minutes saw Redlands start a little slow and struggle to get in the game due in part a strange setup from lions with two up front but two cheating wife players. Good for us going forward but tou...gh at first to come to terms with when the ball was lost. After the first 10 however Redlands came to terms and sorted out their positional play allowing them to dominate for the remainder of the half. The reds created many half chances but were unable to capitalise and take the lead. Young Weatherby had a few shots after great lead up none of which troubled the keeper. The second half saw the reds again dominate and be pretty much untroubled for the duration. The game then saw a bit of controversy with a few poor offside calls against Redlands which saw some mild remonstrations from the bench towards the ref by people some of the dodgiest people going. One a current Qld police officer and one a former AFP officer. They got their marching orders and went to the bar for a few coldies. This was the spark the reds needed. Finally the Old devils were able to break down a pretty decent defensive effort from the lions back line. It took a brilliant through ball from Anthony la Rossa to Charlie after a great run from Bridgey to drag defenders out of the space to open up the defence. The first time finish from Charlie was a sublime little touch around the keeper using the spin on the ball to allow it just inside the post. Two minutes later they were at it again with great work from the back through the middle and finally getting the ball to Weathers wide left playing a great ball in to Charlie again who finished superbly. Not long after that Paul thought lions needed a bit of help beautifully beating Les at the near post with a cracking first time finish into the corner. Nerves were again there but it was again down to Brett to score a great free kick around the wall low into the bottom corner. The Old Devils saw the game out for a comfortable 3-1 win away to keep their winning run going. As always onwards and upwards. See more
