We can already see the foundations of a special musical family in this great multi-purpose facility! In a short-term, their first steps on the path of musical knowledge and performance, vocal techniques and terminologies, are coming to fruition with performances such as Gospolation, Melbourne Fringe and even weekly opportunities to sing before their peers. As all the music is ...crafted to suit their age group whilst hitting core values in the style and history of varying genres, the Melbourne Jones Juniors first scat trade experience is over the standard-esque tune The Hungry Caterpillar. Written by Charmaine Jones-Devasagayam to the theme of the well-loved storybook by Eric Carle, the students are encouraged to understand jazz in a way that relates to their journey at present and grow in improvisational skills which include aural recognition, syllable choice, time feel, confidence .... and more! 05.01.2022 This semester, The Jones Juniors are taking their first steps on the path of rudimentary Jazz techniques and terminologies that are tailor-made to suit their age and understanding whilst hitting the core values in the style and history of this music. Discussions from the birth of jazz; the slave trade and African heritage, rhythms, culture, with the combination of western harmony and values - to the the practical stylistic elements that are intrinsically 'jazz music' or as t...he great trumpeter Lee Morgan describes it 'African classical music' have been a part of our weekly rehearsals. Here is a first attempt in scat from a few members over the changes to a standard-esque tune. Written by Charmaine Jones-Devasagayam to the theme of the well-loved storybook, The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, the students make 'jazz' relatable not only to themselves but to their audiences - both young and the young at heart.
