24.01.2022 The Marshall Liberal Government has shortchanged young girls and women at the State's public schools with a program to provide sanitary products providing just $3 per student per year. Periods are a fact of life for our girls and young women, sanitary products are a necessity. The Liberals have allocated just $150,000 a year for three years for the full rollout of the program for girls and women in years 5 and above. Last year, Victoria became the first Australian state or t...erritory to provide free sanitary products in all government schools with a $20.7 million initiative rolled out across more than 1500 public schools. As a State, we must do better!
23.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day. It is important to know that if you are affected by a mental illness, you are not alone, help is available and I encourage you to reach out. If you believe that a friend, family member or colleague needs help please show care, compassion and support them to seek help.... If you need assistance or need to talk with someone contact your GP or please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800.
23.01.2022 HAPPY BIRTHDAY MEDICARE! I am sure we have all had mixed experiences with our public health system especially when it is under-staffed but I am sure none of us would want a system like other countries. Our Medicare card gets us access to quality hospital care at no cost and either free or subsided doctors visits.... The Hawke/Keating era brought much progress to Australia unlike the current Federal Government.
23.01.2022 Earlier this year I surveyed the residents of Two Wells about issues of local concern. The results showed lots of support for new road infrastructure, primary producers, CFS volunteers and new community facilities. It was concerning to read the number of people whose cost of living is rising and who are concerned about their job security, job opportunities for our children and grandchildren and financial security for their family. I am sure people are even more worried following the impact of Covid-19. I will use this data to continue lobbying the State Government and working with the Adelaide Plains Council to reduce costs, deliver infrastructure and invest in our community.
23.01.2022 The Marshall Liberal Government and our SA Federal Liberal MPs need to ensure that they continue to support these vital jobs in SA. Like all industries if the jobs were cut there would be flow on effects to our local small businesses across the metro area. SA is the defence state with our defence industry and the Edinburgh RAAF super base in our local community. Lets support all those who serve our nation and those who make the subs.
21.01.2022 It is important that everyone can continue to support their families if they need to be tested or to isolate. Following lobbying by the opposition and unions, the SA Government has set up a paid pandemic leave system to make sure eligible people don't have to choose between putting food on the table and getting tested. You can see the eligibility information + apply for the payment here:https://www.covid-19.sa.gov.au//financial-support-for-indi
21.01.2022 This weekend marks approximately one year since the covid restrictions first came in locally. It has seen us all learn to work, shop and enjoy entertainment differently. It saw us move more towards technology and saw us all learn what a QR code was. I want to take a moment to reflect on all the work the essential workers, volunteers and especially our front line health workers have done. I thank all of them for assisting us through a tough year. Also, I want to reflect on spending ANZAC Day on my driveway, assisting local families with food deliveries and donating shopping bags to Cos We Care to assist them to continue their great work and thank my Community Liaison Officer, Alex who has signed many thousands of documents in nearly 3,200 Justice of the Peace appointments in the last 12 months.
21.01.2022 I know many local residents are concerned about the current Covid-19 cluster in South Australia. I ask that everyone remain calm, get tested if they feel unwell and ensure they support family and friends by keeping in contact with them. Earlier in the year retail and other frontline workers experienced violence and abuse from customers. This is totally unacceptable. These workers are just doing their job to serve our community. It is never acceptable to be violent or abusive towards workers especially some of the young workers in our retail stores and servos.
21.01.2022 If Labor wins the next state election and after some productive discussions with the CEO of Supercars, Mr. Sean Seamer, Peter Malinauskas has signed an MOU with Supercars to bring the Adelaide 500 back to the streets of Adelaide. This nationally renowned event isn’t just important to motorsport fans, it’s important to the South Australian economy delivering nearly $46 million and over 400 jobs. Let’s bring this race back to where it belongs.
20.01.2022 Congratulations to the 140 local residents who received their Australian Citizenship in Playford on Monday evening. It was good to chat with families from many countries across the world who have chosen to make Australia their home and are contributing to our community. Thank you also to Lachlan Holden for his beautiful singing and Robert Taylor for his brilliant Welcome to Country.
20.01.2022 I STRONGLY SUPPORT OUR AMBULANCE STAFF Last week, the Productivity Commission revealed ambulance response times are 14% worse under the Marshall Liberal Government. Meanwhile, the Government's latest budget cut ambulance staff by 5% and slashed $11 million from ambulance services.... I have a petition in my office supporting a long-term sustainable funding stream that provides the resource capacity needed to respond to the escalating demand for ambulance services and calls for the eradication of ramping at South Australian hospitals through whatever means necessary, including additional funding.
19.01.2022 Today is R U Ok day and also MATES in Construction Fly the Flag Day. MATES in Construction use this day to show support for their industry and celebrate the amazing volunteers who look out for their mates, the Connectors. Connectors are people who have the skills to keep someone in crisis safe while connecting them to help. They are trained to use SafeTALK, an internationally-recognised suicide prevention program, and are provided a deeper understanding of people at risk. MATES also run the Applied Suicide Intervention Training, General Awareness Training for workers and the Life Skills Toolbox Program for apprentices.
19.01.2022 TIME TO GIVE A CAN - Cos We Care provide a food pick-up service at Fremont Park and in the city for the homeless or anyone in need. I currently support them with some of my shopping bags but now everyone can assist them by adding an extra can to their shopping.
17.01.2022 On this R U OK Day, it is important that everyone commits to asking their friends, family and their colleagues every day not only Are U OK? but being ready to go beyond that to have regular meaningful conversation. if needed. To assist you with this a FREE conversation guide has been made available at www.ruok.org.au/how-to-ask. My team and I are committed to the wellbeing of our community. Alex and Frances from my office are accredited Mental Health First Aiders, one of my two Parliamentary interns is currently researching mental health needs and services across the North and I keep in touch with our local mental health professionals. If you or someone you know needs assistance you can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Kids Helpline on 1800 551 800.
17.01.2022 TIME TO CHOOSE: As construction continues on the New Angle Vale B-12 School, it is time to provide feedback on 4 shortlisted names - Angle Vale & District College B-12 Riverbanks College B-12 Gawler River College B-12... Adelaide Plains College B-12 If you want to provide feedback please go to www.education.sa.gov.au/NewAngleValeSchool by October 2nd 2020.
16.01.2022 SA Labor will introduce legislation to establish a specific criminal offence for desecrating a war memorial or monuments. This follows the vandalisation near the National War Memorial on North Terrace just before Remembrance Day. War Memorials honour those who have fought for our country, many of whom made the ultimate sacrifice. Lest We Forget.
16.01.2022 Ramadan Mubarak to everyone across the North and Adelaide. May the holy month of Ramadan bring you peace, joy and happiness. Ramadan Mubarak!
16.01.2022 I want to send a big shout out and thank you to all of our essential workers whether they work in health, emergency services, caring roles, retail or other industries. I also thank all South Australians whether they have helped those in need or just stuck together and cared for one another. I am proud of our essential workers, please extend your thanks when you are next out in the community.
15.01.2022 How out of touch is this? Liberal Health Minister Stephen Wade has defended a cut of 172 car parks at the new WCH saying: "Many people don't have cars" Does he expect families to take their kids to hospital on the bus? ... The current WCH car parks are almost always full. Not only is there 772 spaces in the two carparks, but hundreds of on-street carparks. Briefings to the Minister released under FOI laws reveal the plans for the new hospital are only 600 car parks. That's a drop of 172. The same briefing reveals there will be 10 fewer women's and 3 fewer children's overnight beds. $1.9 billion for a new hospital that will have 172 less car parks and fewer kids and women's overnight beds. The Minister must listen to those families who use the hospital and ensure taxpayers aren't going to end up with a hospital which is harder to get to than the current site.
14.01.2022 Thank you to every carer across the North. Carers provide thousands of hours of unpaid care to family and friends. These are selfless people who may be caring for children, grandchildren, parents, partners, siblings or friends. These carers love the people they care for and put their caring role before themselves. Thank you to the Northern Carers Network who care for and support carers in our local area. There are 2.65 million carers in Australia
14.01.2022 The Marshall Liberal Government needs to take immediate action to end ramping and the under-resourcing of our ambulance service. The AEA Media Release advises that a Northern Suburbs patient with a suspected spinal injury waited 90 minutes for an ambulance, they should have waited just 16 minutes!
14.01.2022 Today marks the one-year anniversary of Prof. Nicola Spurrier and Commissioner Grant Stevens taking control of SA’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 22 March 2020 a major emergency was declared, with Grant Stevens stepping up to become the State Co-ordinator, acting on advice from SA Health and Prof. Nicola Spurrier. Its been a tough 12-months for everyone. People have made sacrifices. Some families lost loved ones and were unable to grieve for them in the traditional wa...y. But to Nicola Spurrier and Grant Stevens I want to say a big ‘thank you’ for the last 12-months and all you have done to keep us safe.
13.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: The Marshall Liberal Government who said they didn't have a privatisation agenda prior to the 2018 election have just announced they are handing over $2.14 billion of taxpayers money to an overseas company to run our train network. Public Transport should be for people not profit. Major cities across the world own and operate their train services, including New York, London, Paris and Chicago. We know from failed privatisations interstate and international services drop, jobs are lost and fares increase.
13.01.2022 The State Government is developing a Road Safety Strategy. You can give your feedback at: www.yoursay.sa.gov.au/sa-road-safety-strategy. The Survey closes on Monday, 2 November. I continue to lobby for the delivery of many road safety projects and road upgrades in our local area. Comment below with any new road safety suggestions you have or road upgrades you believe need to happen.
12.01.2022 Beautiful services at Elizabeth RSL, Lake Windemere B-7 School and Salisbury War Memorial this morning. Today we remember the men, women and service animals who have served our nation across more than 100 years. Lest We Forget!
11.01.2022 PUBLIC TRANSPORT SHOULD BE IN PUBLIC HANDS That was the clear message from commuters this morning who travelled to work, university or school on the train network that was privatised by the Liberal Government yesterday. They were concerned about the frequency of services, fare rises, the impact on small stations and free travel to major events.... Adelaide's buses, trains and trams have now all been privatised by Steven Marshall and the Liberals.
11.01.2022 Local tradies, cleaners and other workers need your support. Go to savesajobs.com and sign the petition to save their jobs. The Marshall Liberal Government are planning to privatise essential DPTI maintenance services services that oversee the upkeep and maintenance of critical public assets like our schools and hospitals.
10.01.2022 IT'S TIME! There comes a time when everyone in life retires and after significant reflection over the Christmas and New Year period, I have decided I will retire from politics at the next State Election in 2022. I want to thank my staff, Alex and Frances, Sonya, my trainees Ethan, Jess, Tyler, Katherine, Shane, Bradley and Anna. My wife Wendy and my children and grandchildren. ... Everyone from the Napier and Taylor sub-branches, my parliamentary, Labor and Union colleagues and friends and all of my volunteers. I will say more over the next 15 months but for now I want to thank the electors of Napier and Taylor for putting their faith in me. This role has been my greatest honour. I love spending time in my community assisting residents, visiting community groups or talking about Labor under a great Premier Jay Weatherill or SA's next Premier Peter Malinauskas. The people of the north, indeed all South Australians, need a strong Labor Government which will put working people first. This will be my mission in the lead-up to 2022.
10.01.2022 A Malinauskas Labor Government will build, own and operate a world leading Hydrogen Power Station. A station that will harness South Australian renewable energy to supply cleaner and cheaper power. Labor will also build one of the world’s largest hydrogen electrolyser facilities to produce hydrogen from water using excess renewable energy and a hydrogen storage facility, holding two months’ operation, will provide additional capacity when required. That’s Labor's Hydrogen Jo...bs Plan - powering new jobs and industry for South Australia. You can find out more about our Hydrogen Jobs Plan here: www.petermalinauskas.com.au
10.01.2022 This report into South Australia’s ramping crisis is being kept secret. Six months after it was completed. You can read more at https://bit.ly/2PkRjEf #IStandWithOurAmbos
10.01.2022 Happy Khmer New Year (Suasday Ch'narm Tmay!) to all our local Cambodian families. May this New Year bring you good health, happiness, prosperity and hopes for the future.
08.01.2022 SCHOOLS BACK ! Public schools, preschools and children’s centres will reopen to all students on Monday 23 November. While OSHC is able to operate as usual, families should check with their OSHC service whether it will run a service on Monday. Thankyou to all the teachers, SSOs and school volunteers for their hard work so far this year and hope that it is a successful end to Term 4.
07.01.2022 I wish all families in the North and Adelaide Plains a Happy and Safe Easter. Thank you to all our essential workers working across Easter to ensure that we can enjoy our long weekend especially our Ambos and health workers. Please drive safely and have an enjoyable time with your family.
06.01.2022 Our Ambo and Firies need our support. People are dying waiting for an ambulance, waiting hours ramped outside hospitals and our firies have trucks with safety issues and a number of trucks that are over 30 years old. I was proud to join the Ambos and firies protesting at Parliament House today to call on Liberal Steven Marshall to act immediately to end this health and emergency services crisis.
05.01.2022 Great to attend the opening of the Bridgestone Salisbury Athletics Centre last night. A brilliant facility for the whole of the North. I am sure there will be many athletics stars coming out of the facility long into the future. There will be a Community Fun Day at the facility tomorrow from 11am to 2pm at Frost Road, Salisbury.
04.01.2022 Three Years Later, I know that many people are still angry at what happened but have moved into their life beyond Holden, hopefully most people have found a good life and I hope that everyone is doing ok. It was a place of many memories and good mateship.
04.01.2022 It’s normal to feel worried during times of uncertainty. Please ensure that you reach out to your friends and family. If you need talk to someone about how you are feeling, you can reach out to the SA Health network of specialist services who are here to help. You can visit the COVID-19 Mental Health support web portal for resources, including online chat services, and more information: ... www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/COVID19MentalHealthSupport. See more
03.01.2022 What will the Libs cut next? The Adelaide 500 was the most popular V8 race as far as crowd numbers, the drivers loved the challenge of the street circuit and ordinary South Australians liked the action and the family fun at the track or watching at home. The event also brought people from interstate and overseas, injected nearly $46 million into the economy and supported over 400 jobs. The Libs taking SA backwards.
03.01.2022 Today is Harmony Day and the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. I am proud to represent a very diverse electorate with many residents from across the world. I thank everyone who has migrated to Australia and built this country and enriched our community. I strongly oppose racism in any form and believe that harmony fosters a stronger community. I will also share some photographs from the Harmony Week celebrations and citizenship ceremonies on Friday in Salisbury.
02.01.2022 Stay safe on SA roads this long weekend. Remember to take regular breaks, buckle up, don’t drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and ensure you stick to the speed limit. Stay Safe and remember Covid restrictions, physical distancing and washing your hands regularly.
02.01.2022 It was good to see a large amount of support on the steps of Parliament House for our special mangroves today. The SA Liberal Government and Minister Speirs must take immediate action. More than ten hectares of mangroves and 35 hectares of saltmarsh close to the boardwalk at St Kilda and further south next to the salt ponds died last year and limited action has been taken. It is time for immediate action to be taken.
01.01.2022 The Marshall Liberal Government's mismanagement of the Gawler Electrification Project will see the line closed for a further seven months. There will now be a total line closure from April 25 to the end of November. This will see more cars on our roads or people travelling on substitute buses. This delay is a blow to thousands of train commuters who now face significant inconvenience to their daily lives for months to come.
