25.01.2022 . . The biggest missing ingredient from rehab programs that I see, is in the understanding of your centre of mass and how we should distribute it in different movements. I often see clients who’ve been given a lot of good exercises but have no awareness of how their body should shift it’s weight or where to when they stand on one leg. They end up doing the correct exercises incorrectly. ... . , . Studies have shown that a lack of sleep leads to increased pain sensitivity. So your pain may feel worse after a poor nights sleep. However, sleeping with pain is easier said than done. When we are in pain, the body is more actively in a sympathetic state (fight or flight) making it even harder to sleep. Using breath work or meditation before you sleep can help shift you towards a parasympathetic state making it easier to fall asleep and get the recovery you need. . . Aim for a minimum of 30minutes of natural light per day. Increased levels of Vitamin D, stronger bones, better sleep, improved mood, and a healthier immune system are just a few of the benefits of getting outdoors and getting some exposure to the sun. . . If you eat meat and fish, opt for grass fed and finished meats and wild caught fish when possible. They contain a higher omega 3 content which has been shown to reduce inflammation. With vegetables, aim to eat the meaning a variety of colours to increase the amount of vitamins and minerals you consume. . . When you exercise, focus on movement quality before increasing weights and intensity. Balance in movement is essential for pain management. For example, if you can rotate left and can’t rotate right, this is an issue that needs to be addressed. High intensity exercise on a underdeveloped foundation is a recipe for pain. Know the purpose of your workout and why you are training. Prioritise recovery and move well before moving often at higher intensities.
19.01.2022 Have you been told a muscles is tight and stiff because It’s overstretched or it’s too strong then given a quick rub down followed by a stretching or a strengthening exercise to target that specific area. I know firsthand what it is like to feel pain, feel frustrated and held back due to injuries and lose hope when the cookie cutter approaches and exercises from health practitioners just aren’t working and nothing is improving. ... Nothing works in isolation (see my previous post). That tight muscle is part of a bigger picture, so simply looking at that one muscles function won’t necessarily give you the answer to why you’re in pain or why it is tight. The other crucial factor is that the tight painful muscle is being dictated by the joints around it! Try this.. Flex your biceps Keeping your elbow flexed at 90degrees, completely relax your biceps... Go on, keep trying... Ok, so it’s impossible.
