25.01.2022 Some fantastic photos of Jon :)

22.01.2022 Check out Jon’s new adventure!!

21.01.2022 We finally managed to tie Jon down long enough to get him to complete his final Blog for his 10th Circumnavigation. Don't worry though we are working on him doing a few more when he does a couple of Boat deliveries over coming months.

21.01.2022 "Jon hon has now been at sea for 17 days, sailing over 2200 nautical miles since he left Fremantle Sailing Club on November 3rd. For most people, sailing that distance would be a trip of a lifetime but for Jon, it's just the first half of the first leg of his world circumnavigation. Jon is in good spirits and has reported that everything is well going well. He’s managed to shake off the head cold that he departed with, and sounds brighter than ever on the phone." Scroll down to read more.

21.01.2022 Home and looking better than ever!! Great story by Kelly Haywood and Channel 9 news.

16.01.2022 Update from Jon - 25/11/2019 Fine mild quiet day today, and yesterday and the day before that and the day before that. Blue sky,s usually 3/8 cloud. 12 kts wind from the east and just by way of a change yesterday came from east and day before that from the east. It keeps coming from the east.... Better than the west, give you the tip. Bang smack behind me. Prefer more quarter behind but not that fussy. Usual for this region and mild. Bit tropical middle of day. 12 kts the norm. Sometime 12/14. Sometimes 10/12 but usually 12 and 12/14kts E. Boat speed about 5kts ave to 5.4kts. Not speedy because right behind. Nice travelling, so it is.

15.01.2022 Simply stunning - a huge thank you to Elk Fish Robotics for putting together this amazing record of his journey from the Fremantle Harbour back to Royal Perth Yacht Club.

15.01.2022 A worthy recipient indeed - congratulations Jon !!

13.01.2022 And just when you think that Jon might have had enough of Sailing .... you see him out on the water :) Thanks to the crew of Nimbus for the photo.

12.01.2022 Jon celebrated his last night in St Maarten last night, enjoying a meal with his Perth friend Paul Stratfold. Jon is departing St Maarten at 1400h local time (...0200hrs Perth time) and heading for Colón, Panama where he will spend two weeks in quarantine before transiting the Panama Canal. The No Plastic Ocean team sincerely thank Paul for taking great care of Jon throughout his stay in St Maarten. Paul has assisted Jon with repairs to Perie Banou II and been a friendly face for Jon to have some (distanced) social contact over the past two months. Thank you Paul! 08.01.2022 Thank you to all of you who came out to welcome Jon home. It was a brilliant day for a man who deserves everything and more.

05.01.2022 Jon Sanders has today departed Tahiti bound for Australia. Since his departure from Fremantle in November 2019 Jon has taken a 100litre water sample 11am local ...time every day he has been under way. The sampling process has been faultless. The pump and filter mechanism have operated perfectly. At each port of call Jon has air couriered the sample filters to WA-Organic and Isotope Geochemistry Centre (WA-OIGC) at Curtin University in Perth where the samples undergo analysis by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy to study the microplastics. In addition, the microbial composition in a subset of these samples will be analysed at WA-OIGC in an attempt to identify species capable of plastic degradation. Thus far we have results from the first leg of the voyage from Fremantle to Mauritius. The number of microplastic particles in those samples was low. This is as we expected as the Southern Indian Ocean is strongly influenced by the Antarctic currents which carry some of the cleanest water in the world. As Jon sails through the equatorial regions we expect the number of microplastic particles to be much higher. It is in these regions that Jon’s route will intersect major shipping routes where some earlier microplastic surveys have been conducted. These earlier surveys are patchy and do not provide a comprehensive picture on a wide scale. Jon’s voyage will provide more than 200 samples extracted from over 20,000 litres of sea water processed through the onboard filters across almost 25,000 nautical miles (46,000kms) of the world’s oceans. This unprecedented scale of sampling for near surface oceanic microplastic will provide the data required to establish a baseline against which future measurements of ocean microplastic can be compared. Only then will we know the rate at which microplastic pollution of our oceans is increasing and the areas in which the increase is fastest and possibly of most concern. See more

04.01.2022 A great selection of photos from Paul Stratfold of John arriving in Saint Maarten.

04.01.2022 A huge congratulations to Jon on being inducted into the Australian Sailing Hall of Fame.

03.01.2022 Tomorrow’s the big day!! We look forward to seeing you out there to Welcome Jon home. We’re excited!!
