25.01.2022 Hi everybody! Some of you may be aware I had a hernia reconstruction today. The good news is that the repair is done and stronger than before. The bad news is that complications were encountered and open surgery was required. Consequently, I'll be off work longer than anticipated. The surgeon is expecting a full four weeks off any push mowing work. Ride on mowing should be able to be done after 10-14 days contingent on using the clutch in the car. Thank you for your patience and well wishes. I truly appreciate it :)
25.01.2022 Good afternoon everyone, We're on the move! Still residing in the area but simply a different address. We'll make this as painless as possible for everyone - no job cancellations at this point. I am heavily booked for the next week however after that have spaces available. I'd like to thank the Crows Nest community in general for all their help over the past few weeks - it hasn't gone unnoticed! :)
22.01.2022 Good afternoon folks, Some of you may remember we were running a competition a little while ago with a giveaway when we hit 100 likes. Well, due to Facebook algorithms this has proven challenging so we've decided to draw it early. We're pleased to announce Dale Kerans is the winner of our book competition! Congratulations Dale!
22.01.2022 Hi everyone, Trailer is again able to be used. Business as usual :)
20.01.2022 Did you know we also work with you? Need an extra hand with your project? Happy to help. Hit us up for a quote :) How is everyone faring lately? Hopefully you're all making the most of our lovely days of late :) -Jon.
19.01.2022 Evening all - to answer a few of your questions. Q: Do you close over Christmas/New Year? A: Not really. All standard jobs such as mowing and gardening will be unavailable from the 25th to the 28th of December and the 1st of January. All other days as normal. We will be still attending to emergency jobs such as blocked downpipes and storm damage on these days should storms be experienced.... Q: When will my job be completed? A: This depends on a few factors. Simple jobs such as mowing are generally straight forward but may need to be rescheduled during heavy rain (I enjoy mowing in the rain but my mower has other ideas). Jobs requiring parts from Toowoomba will be completed after I've been in, generally once or twice a week (otherwise I must charge for travel and fuel that isn't fun for either of us). If elderly or disabled clients require emergency assistance they will take precedence as per my policy. Q: Why can't you get rid of these bindiis!!! A: The plant itself isn't growing this time of year. Those bindiis that are terrorising your bare feet are actually the seeds for next year's plants. They grow in late Winter and early spring, if sprayed with certain selective herbicides then the plant cannot seed. Contact me in August to make a booking if you'd like to have them sprayed :-)
18.01.2022 The rains a coming!!! Do you need your gutters cleaned out so all that rain goes into the tank and not on the ground. Also happy to replace the flyscreen on the windows so the summer bugs dont get in..
18.01.2022 Hi everyone, Well it's that time of year again. Bindii time. Yep, even I have a few clumps. Last season I unfortunately disappointed a few people by informing them that once seeded, you can't do anything. Good news is that if treated while young, they won't seed and you'll have pain free walks across your lawn come spring. Why not ask us for a quote? We even treat buffalo lawn for no extra charge.
18.01.2022 Hi everyone, Just to let you all know I'll be interstate between this Friday and Tuesday coming. Phone will still be in service for any calls however any work will need to be performed afterwards. Apologies for any inconvenience.... -Jon.
17.01.2022 To all my valued clients, Until further notice I will be unable to perform any work requiring a trailer. Hopefully this will be resolved shortly. All other work as per normal, weather pending. -Jon.
16.01.2022 Good morning everyone, How is everyone doing? Since my last post a number of you have taken advantage and signed up again for regular work - thank you very much. I am becoming busier so those that are wanting service please consider or there may be a delay when I become busy. I'd just like to touch on a couple of waste issues. First, regrettably I'll need to adjust my dumping policy. Until now I've been removing all waste "on the house" that entails loading, driving to the ti...p, unloading and returning for the next client. I'm not only paying for the dump fees but when I'm busy this reduces the amount of clients I can service per day. For mowing clients in the Crows Nest/Hampton area, I have a wonderful neighbour that will take all clean grass clippings. Your rates will be unchanged. Unfortunately for Toowoomba/Highfields/Meringandan clients I will need to charge the minimum TRC fee of $6.20 per load. To get around this, I can either use a mulching mower or your own green waste bin or compost. Any service over $100 has a free dump run included. For other green waste removal it's based on a estimate of $40.90/tonne. For most people this will result in a charge of $10 a trailer. I'm sorry this needs to be done but I can no longer continue to wear the cost. If any clients have genuine hardship I'm happy to negotiate on a case by case basis. Take care, Jon.
16.01.2022 Hi guys, Just a quick update. For those of you that have been interested in garden beds - some of you know that I've preferred a local supplier for top notch vegetable garden soil. Only drawback with this gorgeous mix is that it's $88/m3 my cost. The good news is that I've found a supplier in the Brisbane Valley with a comparable mix that is $60/m3. Contains sand from the upper Brisbane River and a mix of pig, chicken and mushroom compost. Forms a sausage in the hand and easi...ly breaks up like a classic loam. Now I'm happy to get spot loads, but I'd prefer they deliver as it's less wear and tear on my car hauling a tonne of soil up the range on unsealed roads. My question to you, my clients - is this something you'd be interested in. I'm more than happy to set up a bay out back here with this mix in given enough interest :) Let me know below, and I'll go by your opinion :)

14.01.2022 Hi everyone, I'd like to announce a winter special. You're not using your lawnmower (heck, even mine are mostly redundant) so I'd like to offer a service for only $20 (plus any parts) This labour covers:... *Change engine oil *Check/replace spark plug *Check/replace air filter *Check/sharpen/replace cutting blades and more importantly mounting gear *Addition of fuel stabiliser to ensure easy starting come Spring. I'll happily change plugs, filters and oil on ride on mowers as well but due to the myriad of different designs will leave unfamiliar designs to the experts when it comes to belts and cutting decks. This price includes pick-up and drop off in the Crows Nest area. Highfields and Toowoomba clients I usually make weekly runs so happy to work that in. If you'd like to take advantage of this great offer, either give me a call on 0404 368 596 or send me a message :) Stay warm! -Jon.

14.01.2022 Hi everyone! First of all we have quite a few new page likes, and I'd like to welcome you all. Surprisingly, the change of season hasn't seen a slow in pace, my current lead time is approximately a week at present. Days are becoming shorter and as a result not able to squeeze quite as much work in one day. That said, I'd like to touch on a topic - my informal contracts. Many of my clients I have on an informal contract for lawn or garden work. This is mutually beneficial, as ...not only do I have some guarantee of work but the client also benefits from a reduced rate and a guarantee that I will turn up in advance at an agreed time. Lately I've turned up to a few jobs and work isn't required. This not only puts a glitch in my schedule, but I'm currently turning away spot work at present to cater to my existing clients. These people in turn also miss out on a potential service. I'm not one for formalities (I hate paperwork), however if you don't require a service a little advance notice would be gratefully appreciated, so I can accomodate other people :) Also we're running out of time before frost to spray lawns for broadleaf weeds - if you'd like your lawn treated, please book in soon and more than happy to help! Until next time, take care :)
13.01.2022 When we say no job too small, we mean it! Sir Walter at its best.

10.01.2022 Hello everyone, Hasn't it been nice to see the rain? Unfortunately for a few of you this means delayed lawn mowing and spraying services - however this week looks like it will be a little more friendly and I'm doing my best to accomodate everyone in a timely fashion. Furthermore to my last message we will be moving house shortly. As to when I won't know but during the move I may need a few days and accordingly reschedule a few people. We're aiming to stay in the Crows Nest co...mmunity and make the whole process as painless as possible. So once again thank you for your continued custom and patience, and look forward to seeing you all again soon!
10.01.2022 Did you know we also move things? Our 8x6' trailer fits a fair amount and rated for 750KG. For your next small move, why not give us a call? For those moving house with a small amount of possessions this is often cheaper than a removalist. And, we'll help load and unload. Why not ask us for a quote?

09.01.2022 To all my clients, First of all can I express my sincere gratitute for the kind wishes and understanding postponement of work after my medical emergency on Friday. It hasn't gone unnoticed and once again I can't believe how wonderful and caring many of you are. You guys are the sole reason I'm in this business and I'm proud to call many of you my friends as well. I'm resuming work this afternoon weather permitting. Secondly - it appears likely we will be forced to move in the... near future from our current address due to the owner selling. This is a callout to all of you wonderful people - we wish to remain an active part of the Crows Nest community and does anyone have any leads on available houses. We prefer a little bit of land, even an old farmhouse is fine. So once again, thank you for all your thoughts and help :)
08.01.2022 G'Day guys, just an update on how I'm travelling. At this stage I'm not in pain but still quite a bit of discomfort from the mesh grafting. Another week for ride on work, another 2 for brushcutting and still 3-4 weeks off push mowing at this point. I was able to kneel down without pain today so hopefully weeding and general gardening very shortly. For those desperate with long grass, provided the edges aren't a priority I'll be able to see you in a week hopefully :D

05.01.2022 It's the middle of July, what does that mean? Roses! Do you have a few roses? Sick of being thorned giving them a haircut? Let me do it! We're at the perfect time to prune roses, and with a bit of expert care will ensure they form a nice vase shape and bloom into spring.... Ask me for a free quote, positions will fill up quickly! -Jon
05.01.2022 Hi All! It's been quite a while, and there's a few things I'd like to touch on. Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for being so patient whilst I've been experiencing unprecedented demand. At present I'm booked solidly until next Thursday, so for those after lawn service I'll be unable to complete your request until then. Secondly, a major issue is kikuyu. A tropical grass native to East Africa, it's highly invasive yet favoured in our climate due to its resistance to heat and... drought. A thick kikuyu lawn will smother weeds, and appear lush at the same time. My main issue as a tradesman is its excessive growth. A few of my clients appreciate this, and have their kikuyu mowed at least fortnightly - my suggestion over Summer. For those asking "how much to mow", if the kikuyu is over six inches high, and you require it to be catched - the charge will be higher as I must slash it with a ride on mower first then follow with a catcher. To date I've been accomodating however the increasing frequency of excessively high growth has resulted in this new policy as it takes not only time but wear on my equipment. Thirdly, have you considered a mowing contract with us? Contract clients have guaranteed service (e.g. my lawn WILL be mowed every second Friday) and benefit from lower rates. Your lawn will look more manicured and any weed issues can be identified at an early stage. Please ask us for a quote :)
05.01.2022 G'Day guys, I'm please to let you know that I'd now cleared for all duties. Better news (well, for my clients) is that I'm lightly booked compared to the heights of Summer, so I'm able to do spot jobs in a more timely fashion than I was earlier on. Question to all of you - is there any service you'd like me to offer, or any topic on gardening/lawns you'd like me to discuss in a post here? Just let me know :)... Thanks in advance - Jon.
04.01.2022 I'm back! First I'd like to extend my sincere thanks to all my clients for your continuted patronage and well wishes over the last few weeks. The good news is I'm back on deck for most of my duties with the exception of push mowing, hedge trimming and work at heights. I'll be taking it easy for another week or two, currently I'm only booking one job a day but next week I should start ratcheting up my workload. Push mowing is another 2 weeks away and I'll have to check on the ...others with my surgeon (lifting weight above my waist for extended periods isn't allowed) I understand that some of you have resorted to outside sources to keep your jungles under control in my absence; I was quite heavily booked the week before surgery and then weather closed in - I'm just glad someone was able to be a stopgap for you! Anyway, if you'd like any of my services, just ask! I look forward to seeing you all again soon :)
04.01.2022 Hi all! Just a reminder that it's business as usual for us during the forecast rain event. Only exception is rooftop work during an electrical storm, but that's it - look forward to seeing many of you this weekend!
02.01.2022 To all our existing customers, family and friends we wish you a very safe and Merry Christmas. Thank you for all your support this year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2015.
02.01.2022 Hi everyone, Well we've certainly had a nice run of warmer (and a little windy) weather. I'm starting to ramp up mowing work again so I'm going to get in early here. Some of my regulars have kept up constant work over Winter and I thank them very much indeed. A few of you have dropped off the radar over Winter (which is understandable, grass doesn't grow much) but if you'd like my services over Summer please think about what days and frequency you'd like. For those not famili...ar with my informal "contract" system, it works as such. You commit to a regular service, such as fortnightly or monthly mowing, or gardening, over Summer. For regular work, my rate does drop. Cheaper for you, work for me - we both win. Also you're guaranteed service on said day (weather permitting). Sadly, last Summer I had to disappoint a few people as my lead time blew out and I was unable to do spot work in a timely fashion. Book now! :) Also we're on the cusp of our fire season. I'm a member of the Rural Fire Service and in the unlikely event of an incident, I will politely leave in a hurried fashion if able to respond (and of course return to finish the work!) Hopefully you're all doing well, and look forward to seeing everyone in due course.
01.01.2022 Hi all! Just a quick message to let you know I'll be out of town from the 12th to the 15th inclusive. Any work will need to be performed before or after these dates. :)
01.01.2022 Hi everyone! I know it's not currently the weather to be considering it, but I'm looking towards offering firewood deliveries for Winter when demand for lawns settles down. I've been approached by two land holders offering me a competitive rate, and was wondering how many of you would be interested in a firewood delivery during the cooler months. Two bits of market feedback I have received are that most services dump the logs on your footpath or front lawn. I'll be offering a... stacking service if you'd like. Secondly, many places only offer 12" logs and some of you have smaller fireplaces that can only take 8" ones. I'm also happy to cut smaller pieces. So my questions are, is anyone else interested, and if so, what are you currently paying for how much? :)
