25.01.2022 Bay Swellz - 2015 January

25.01.2022 The Nikonos iii - released in June, 1975. The Nikonos was developed from the earlier Calypso camera, designed by Belgium engineer Jean De Wouter’s. De Wouter’s was a member of the research vessel Calypso, where the design was born, captained by Jacques Yves Cousteau. The camera is virtually indestructible and hence was a favourite amongst divers, soldiers, fishermen, boaters etc. it is able to withstand depths of up to 50 metres!! ... I was lucky enough to come across this camera in a local trading post store roughly 50 metres from my house! Now lubed up and loaded with some ISO 3200 B&W film I’m ready to give it a go this week. The hard part will be guessing the correct exposure as a don’t have a marine light meter I’ve been wanting to get in the water with 35mm film for the past year but haven’t been able to afford a custom housing for my Nikon F100. 19.01.2022 Next best thing to air travel, pit travel. Got caught on the other side of the lens recently. I spent 4 mornings in a row getting up at 3:30am chasing waves to shoot before work with no success. But it was nice to dust off the boog and get a few waves. 14.01.2022 Beaty from a wild morning in the ocean. The swell was too big for the spot and I swam around all morning trying to avoid copping waves on the head. Every so often I’d drift inside to try get a shot off before being flogged and sent cartwheeling towards the rocks, then swim back around and start the process again. 12.01.2022 Hi all, Last week we had probably the best January swell (on the east coast of Australia) I can remember shooting. So instead of posting a bunch of images on Instagram and moving on, I wanted to make something a little more special and create a Zine (a self-published booklet). The zine will be around 50 pages, A4 sized staple bound, including images taken with my Nikon D500 and 85mm lens.... I'm only printing 20 copies and each will be numbered and signed. 10.01.2022 @the.chase.film was premiered last night and the last and best section in my (probably biased) opinion was a night shoot I was lucky to be apart of. It started with a 12:30am alarm to get up and jumping in the water at 3:30-4am in the pitch black darkness watching @spacex satellites flying through the sky (I was literally loosing my mind). Whilst we were shooting heavy waves we couldn’t even barely see... I managed to get back to work in Nowra by 9am and eventually h...auled my tired ass onto the futsal court later that night. Safe to say i milked the bajeezers outta that day, highly fueled on caffeine. Cheers for the invite @adrian_emerton and congrats on the film! Here’s a few of the images from the session. 02.01.2022 Today I received my first roll of film back from my first outing with the Nikonos iii I had been down at the Huskisson markets all morning selling photos when the email came through from @rewindphotolab with the drop box link for the rolls I sent up to get developed. I immediately wanted to pack up shop and head home to download the tiff files for a look see!! For anyone who has shot with the Nikonos iii will understand how hard it is to nail an image, not only are yo...u manually exposing the image, guessing the correct aperture, but your also manually focussing the lens. Hence I had zero expectations of nailing anything good and was hopeful I’d just got the exposure close enough... let me know what think. I’m pretty stoked with the first attempt, the waves weren’t amazing but I’m happy with the framing and exposure.
