Race 1 - 1:38pm - 1800m - Class 3 Plate #1 Lassiter’s Lode (7) - Ryan Wiggins (59kg) Trainer: Rodney Miller Racing... Bookies: $1.2 Comments: Could Lassiter’s be a northern cups horse? Racing today at the 1800m is a good test to see what kind of motor he has. Not the ideal barrier, but with Ryan Wiggins on board, shouldn’t be an issue finding an on pace position. Long trip to Mackay to a track not yet raced on, there are some question marks. The Punt: $1.20 seems under the odds, he is the best horse in the race, but with a few question marks, I'll be passing on the $1.20. _________________________________________ Race 4 - 3:23pm - 1560m - BM70 Handicap #3 Helmaz (3) - Ryan Wiggins (60kg) Trainer: Rodney Miller Racing Bookies: $1.55 Comments: Helmaz steps up to the 1560m and will carry an extra 6kg on his last run, to go along with the 10 hour drive to a track he has never seen before, I reckon he might struggle, is a weak field, but a few questions marks. The Punt: He should drift a little early in the day, $4+ for the place would be a very good bet.

Bookies Price: $2.7 Comments: Derulo has had nothing but bad luck since locating to the Gold Coast, canceled trials and a lack of racing options due to very poor weather over the last 4 months has had him continually on the back foot. Today he finds himself in a very winnable race and hopefully kick starts a successful campaign, worth following this year. The Punt: Was finally able to get a trial in a couple of weeks ago and looked very good, but again missed a run around earlier this week due to weather. First up at 70% I won’t be having a punt on him unless can get $3.5+.

The Punt: My markets have him at $2.8, bookies have him currently at $3.50. I cant see him drifting once the smart money comes in close to jump, anything over $3.50 is worth taking, I wouldn't be surprised to see him shorten to around the $2.60 mark at jump time. The other race he is in, he will be carrying top weight over 1800m, its a big ask but confidence is high that he can carry the weight and win well. The Punt: If he made the Cup, the $13 is way overs and taking it each way is smart, the race he is looking most likely to be running in, I have him at $3.50, unless these odds drift past the $4.50 mark, I would be preferring to just watch him run around, over those $4.50 ill take a position on him win only.

Not going into his first up with any expectations, race has some early speed and may have him drifting back, along with been a large horse on the soft, tight corner and a short straight, there is plenty of question marks on if the race will suit him. Jockey Graham Kliese jumped well on Beraht from barrier 6 but quickly found himself 3 wide and no where to go. Beraht had every reason to pack it in at the 200m, but with the experienced jockey on board driving him hard to the line and a horse that never gave up, it was a well deserved 10th win for Berahts career. 17.01.2022 Derulo wins! - Townsville 05/08/2020 Derulo takes his unbeaten run to 3 with a dominant 4 length win. Jockey Bonnie Thomson again gave Derulo a 10/10 ride, with not a lot of early speed it was always going to be up to Bonnie to use her experience to set the pace and time out her gears. Running the 1200m in 1:10:57 with the first 600m in 35:81 and the last 600m in 34:76, Bonnie showed her absolute elite level talents giving Derulo every chance to show his true ability. Derul...o is very much cared for by a great team down at the stables, his presence gives everyone around him a lift. Its pretty rare a horse like this comes along and everyone is loving the ride he has us all on, he’s turning into something pretty special. 11.01.2022 Tennessee Boy wins! - Townsville 23/07/2020 Tennessee Boy continues his great year winning with ease today by over 4 lengths in Townsville. After an awkard start through some interesting riding tactics by other jockeys, the race found itself with no one wanting to lead at settling. Tennessee Boy ended up finding himself trailing behind just the one horse into the turn and from there had the race under control, regular jockey Wanderson D'Avila found the rythym in the last 20...0m and put the race out of reach very quickly. 11.01.2022 North Afrika wins! - Mackay 31/07/2020 North Afrika produced a power house performance carrying 63kg over the 1800m to win in convicing fashion. Leading from start to finish which was not else seen on the day, battling high winds and a very suspiciously soaked inside rail, lead horses drawing the inside were heavily disadvantaged. Jockey Ryan Wiggins took that out of the question by jumping well and stayed clear of the running rail around the full perimeter of the track, th...is added to the magnificent performance of North Afrika, the race also had the 2nd fastest final 600m of the day, even beating out the much shorter 1300m Newmarket. His run has the team full of enthusiasm moving forward to bigger and better things over the next couple of months. North Afrika has been building throughout this campaign, stepping up in distance and getting better with every run, a huge amount of credit goes to the Wehlow racing team for his conditioning, he is one of the best looking thoroughbreds you will see up close. The Punt: My markets have Lassiter’s a bit shorter at $1.60, there may be some punter hesitation due to the lack of runs he has had, the new environment and been first up, still believe anything over $1.90 is good value. Race 7 - 16:47pm - 950m - BM70 Handicap #9 Labrusco (6) - Chelsea Jokic (54.0kg) Trainer: Janel Ryan Ownership: C A Jorgensen My Rated Price: $16.0 Bookies: $23.0 Comments: Have placed Labrusco into a race a few grades higher to see how he goes with the minimum weight, it’s not a strong field and to carry only the 54.0kg, I believe Labrusco is right in this. If he can find his early speed that’s gone amiss of late, he should have a good run. If he misses the jump, no chance. The Punt: I have him at $16, he is a little over the odds at the moment with the bookies offering $23. I will be looking for bit more of an edge come start time on the place with betfair, these longer priced horses tend to drift considerably late, if I can get above $6 for the place, that will be my target to have a bet.

The Punt: I am opening Yalanji up at $8, it is a very good field but believe if she jumps well, anything over these odds offer good eachway value. She steps up a grade here but still very winnable. The step up to the 1400m has been a question mark on her in the past, but she wont be as fit as she is now and see no reason she couldn't run it out. Rachel on her home track and with the claim helps. If gets a good start and doesn't over race, Taveuni should be there abouts in the finish. It will be a great battle between the 2 favorites, Tennessee Boy comes into the race fresh and in great form, it will make for a great match race. The Punt: Rated $1.24, Corporates $1.30, he has drifted a little since opening but would think it sticks to around the $1.30 mark. There isn't any value here, If Derulo moves into the $1.40+ price range, he would be worth backing, otherwise just enjoy the race.

Trainer: Bonnie Thomson Ownership: C A Jorgensen | B L Jorgensen | W Veall My rated price: $6.0 Corporate Bookies: $6.5 Comments: Hasty hasn't had the best of starts since moving north earlier in the year. She reared in the barriers first up in Cairns making the saddle slip, over raced then was eased through to the line. Second up she was too far back and found herself out of contention before the straight, then 3rd up was left in the barriers. Hasty was transferred to Jockey / Trainer Bonnie Thomson for a bit more concentration on barrier manners, and so far reports have been very good. Expectations are kept low for the coming race, would like to just see her leave the gates well, sit just off midfield heading into the turn and launch late to hit the line well. If ticks all these boxes, she would be one to follow through to the end of the year. The Punt: I have her a $6 chance, currently bookies have her at $6.5 in from a pretty generous $10 at opening. It would take a very brave person to back a horse with bad barrier history, but If she finds her way back out to double figures, she will be well worth an eachway risk.

02.01.2022 North Afrika wins! - Townsville 14/08/2020 North Afrika confirmed his status as the best staying horse in North Queensland by winning over the 2000m in 2:01:08 carrying 61.5kg from barrier 15, over 6 lengths quicker then the Townsville Cup. Ryan Wiggins took North Afrika to the front leading start to finish showing little interest in what the rest of the field was doing. Wiggins has a great understanding of the horse and we look forward to seeing them both get some big win...s in the not too distant future. A week of voiced frustration with Racing Queensland on how fields for the Northern Cups are finalised was not wasted time, with results now in place and proof of the flawed system, it will be nice to know as of next year the cup fields will be made up with the rightful runners. He would of won the cup pretty convincingly carrying the 54.5kg and drawing well against very average competition. We have accepted race 6 for him, he will carry 61.5kg and drawn the carpark, his a very good horse but this would be a mighty effort. Ryan Wiggins stays on board after riding North Afrika to his 2 previous victories in Mackay and Rockhampton, have full faith he will give the horse every chance to make it 3 in a row. The Punt: Full field, wide barrier, big weight and a very good favourite in the race, will be hard to back unless drifts closer to $8, I doubt he will get anywhere near that price but if does, will be the time to bet.

The Punt: $18+ the place looks like worth a small punt, maybe wait to jump as will drift further, if the gelding of the horse works it wonders, he could be offering big overs, hoping that's the case.
