24.01.2022 The most important job for the Federal Government at the moment is getting the vaccine rollout right. Scott Morrison promised we'd be at the front of the queue to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, then he promised 4 million Australians would be vaccinated by the end of March, but he missed that target by 3.4 million. To be honest, I don’t want to fight about the vaccine - I want the Government to get it right.... But at the moment it is too slow and the Prime Minister is refusing to accept things are not on the right track. Mark Butler MP joined me this morning to visit Ripponlea Medical, one of our local clinics helping to administer the COVID-19 vaccine. Dr Jo and Helen were kind enough to let us witness Helen get her vaccine. But we need more Australians to be given the opportunity Helen got. This vaccine rollout has been plagued by delays, bungles and most of all, supply issues. Clinics like Ripponlea Medical have been put under immense pressure because of the Government's failure to supply vaccines to Australians. They know that vaccines are our ticket back to life as we once knew it. And in the meantime, delays risk more outbreaks and lockdowns. We need to get this right - the Morrison Government has had plenty of time to get this right. They need to secure more vaccines for Australians and help clinics like Ripponlea Medical to urgently increase their vaccination rates.

22.01.2022 It's been 137 days since Scott Morrison stood up with Guy Sebastian and promised an arts support package. And still, zero dollars have gone to our artists. It's not good enough.

19.01.2022 It's been 800 days since Kylie Moore-Gilbert was taken into custody in Iran. Today we marked that day with 800 butterflies with messages of love and support for Kylie. And we renewed our commitment that we will not stop until she's safely home in Australia. ... Free Kylie Moore-Gilbert

19.01.2022 BREAKING - the Government has announced that, under new advice, people under 50 aren’t recommended to get the AstraZeneca vaccine. Throughout this pandemic Labor has always supported our health authorities. They’re the experts and we will always follow their advice. And while health and safety is the most important thing, let’s be frank about this - this vaccine rollout is becoming a shambles. ... From delays and broken promises to supply issues, there’s been more than a few issues that we should be honest about. I wish it wasn’t so - because vaccines are our ticket back to life as we once knew it. They’re our ticket to borders reopening, to travel resuming, to saying goodbye to outbreaks and lockdowns. But this announcement means a few things - it means our already delayed rollout will be further delayed, because AstraZeneca is the main vaccine the Morrison Government has organised supply of. Labor has been warning the Morrison Government for months not to put all our eggs in one basket. We warned them for months we need more vaccine deals and more supply of other vaccines. This situation was foreseeable and avoidable. And while our circumstances right now are good, we were reminded last week in Brisbane how quickly that can change. If we have another outbreak because we didn’t get our population vaccinated in time we’ll all pay the price. And right now, we don’t have any of the safety net that we had last year. No more JobKeeper, no more Coronavirus supplement to JobSeeker, no more eviction moratoriums and rent relief packages. The stakes are high. We need to get this right. I really want the Government to succeed at this. Every Australian does. But we need better than what Scott Morrison’s served up so far. We need a safe and efficient vaccine rollout and we need it fast.

17.01.2022 Joined 3207 Beach Patrol with my little helper to clean up rubbish from Port Melbourne beach.

17.01.2022 We need more houses and we need more jobs. But Scott Morrison is refusing to invest in social and affordable housing.

15.01.2022 Fishermans Bend is one of the fastest growing areas of Melbourne. We need to get the planning, transport and amenities right so that local people have access to schools, open space and infrastructure. Thanks to Shadow Minister for Cities, Andrew Giles MP and Louise Crawford - Mayor & Councillor Canal Ward for joining me today to look at what needs to be done.

15.01.2022 Australia is a great friend of the United States. We share many of their democratic institutions, and we share a deep and close alliance that has endured through many Presidents - Democratic and Republican. It is up to the people of the USA to determine who their President is and we respect the democratic process. ... Democracy is not just a means to an end. It is not something that should be undermined in order to win. Every vote must be counted and that is what will happen. No tweet, no protest, press conference or conspiracy theory will change that. Democracy will triumph over those who try to defeat it.

15.01.2022 The Liberals teamed up today with Pauline Hanson to stop the Aboriginal and Torres Strait flags being displayed in the Parliament. They’re on the wrong side of history.

15.01.2022 I was put to the test this morning by the pottery masters at U3A Glen Eira. We chatted and we sculpted some clay. It was great and I was reminded that returning to activities like this are so important for mental health and connecting with our communities. ... I am looking forward to collecting my handiwork after it is put through the kiln.

14.01.2022 On Yom Hashoah, we are reminded of the real threat we face by the far-right in Australia. Two men who affiliate themselves with a group called the 'National Socialist Network' were arrested with extremist material and dangerous items. The hatred and bigotry of Europe in the 1930s is not extinct. ... On this day we remember the six million Jewish people, and the millions of other disabled, Roma, LGBTIQ people, political prisoners and others, who were murdered by the Nazi regime simply because of who they were. The message of Yom Hashoah is ‘Never Again’. And Never Again means we must stand against it, always.

13.01.2022 We shouldn't vaccinate our Olympians before we've finished vaccinating our most vulnerable Australians in aged care, disability care and the immunocompromised. We need to do the need to haves before the nice to haves. Aged care has to come before athletes.

11.01.2022 Football season’s back. And for the first time, Middle Park FC is fielding a junior girls team - the under 10 Tronds. Tia and I loved launching their season and joining in some team photos with these future Matildas and Socceroos.

09.01.2022 Scott Morrison has given up on a timeline for vaccinating Australians. That means he's given up on a timeline for our economic recovery, for reopening our borders, for putting lockdowns and outbreaks behind us. Sectors like Universities, tourism and events can't afford Scott Morrison's bungled vaccine rollout.

08.01.2022 The Macnamara Volunteer Grants Program is open now for 2021. Grants of up to $5,000 are available to support local volunteers with the tools and resources they need. Full details on how to apply in the comments, and feel free to call my office on 9534 8126 for more information.

08.01.2022 As the rest of the world enters a tough winter of restrictions, we are moving to a further easing of restrictions tonight. This is only possible due to all your efforts - thank you. But remember this is fragile and South Australia is a reminder that things can change quickly.... So let’s keep washing our hands, practicing social distancing and let’s always take a mask in our pockets. And enjoy this rainy, hot, humid and cold Melbourne weather.

06.01.2022 For the first time since February, we have zero active cases of COVID-19. In August, we had nearly 8000. We got here today because we listened to the experts, because we followed the health advice, because we stayed the course. We also got here because we ignored the noisy voices of some urging us to just let the virus rip, to reopen quicker, to learn to live with it.... One of the strongest voices in defence of our health experts during this pandemic has been Chris Bowen MP and he joined me this morning to visit the Burnet Institute, and say thank you to some of the fine Victorian health experts, whose modelling and research has informed Victoria's successful crushing of the second wave.

06.01.2022 Did you know Volunteer Grants of up to $5,000 are available to support local volunteers in Macnamara with the tools and resources they need? Applications for the Macnamara Volunteer Grants Program close this Thursday. Full details on how to apply in the comments, and feel free to call my office on 9534 8126 for more information.

06.01.2022 On top of the St Kilda town hall lives a collection of solar panels. They’re lowering emissions and bringing down the cost of energy. It’s good to see local leadership on energy despite Angus Taylor’s fixation on high-cost, high-emission technology.... With Port Phillip’s Mayor, Louise Crawford - Mayor & Councillor Canal Ward.

05.01.2022 This afternoon, I had a meeting with the Victorian Minister for Road Safety, Ben Carroll MP. I raised the issues of safety, noise and speeding along Beaconsfield Parade from Port Melbourne all the way through to Ormond Esplanade in Elwood. Thank you to the local residents who have advocated for safer and quieter local roads and to Ben for listening and for his willingness to help.

05.01.2022 I've spoken to over a dozen aged care providers in my electorate who haven't received a single dose of the vaccine yet. As far as we're aware, not one resident or aged care worker in the federally funded aged care centres have been vaccinated in Macnamara. Most of these centres don't even know when they will get vaccines.... This has nothing to do with the change in medical advice on AstraZeneca for people under 50 - it's Scott Morrison failing to do what he promised to protect our aged care residents and workers.

04.01.2022 Last night Liberal councillors in the City of Port Phillip broke their pre-election pledge to support policies to make Port Phillip more inclusive of LGBTIQ+ people. But as gutless and disappointing as that was, in complete contrast it was so inspiring to have a sneak peak of the Victorian Pride Centre this morning. It is absolutely spectacular and will be a hub for LGBTIQ+ life, culture and community.... St Kilda has always been a place of pride and inclusion - the home of the Midsumma Festival Pride March for over 25 years - even if the local Liberals are stuck in an age gone by.
